A stellar trade made this abandoned Yamaha 660 ATV mine. Best barn find I've had in a while! Will it run again? I know nothing about 4 wheelerss, how quad's work, how to fix ATV's, but I need a 4x4 ATV for farm chores, so it's worth a shot. I'm a beginner mechanic, a total rookie, in fact, it took me a few weeks just to figure out how to get it out of gear to push it into the garage. Let's give this a go and see if we can restore this abandoned quad and get it to run!
I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. Caleb had a big smile on his face when I drove up in the ATV and told me he was proud of me. Check out my favorite video collab with the best neighbor EVER! czcams.com/video/Z6ioBwkGkjI/video.html
About the two mechanics, I'm beyond sure given enough time and reason to spend on the machine, both of them easily could have fixed it. The reason the original owner didn't want to fuss with it was because there was a serious problem with the carburetor and he isn't into using aftermarket parts, so a yamaha carb would have put the replacement cost much, much higher, and since he already has several other working vehicles, there was no point for him to invest, but all the better for me! Jason only gave up because he was here for a short visit and didn't have time to keep going on it. But in the end, I'm happy I was given the opportunity to figure it out myself, because that makes me all the more proud of my accomplishment.
Love the video. My son is an auto mechanic. Last summer he started to work on ATV's - they are a different kind of beast but he is enjoying it. In fairness to Caleb, there are so few cars with carbs left that most mechanics do not see them. My son studied auto mechanics in college and they just glossed over that part.
You did really well - the stages of diagnosis - follow the path, start with the less expensive fixes...
Cool
Prior to my retirement, I was a manufacturing engineer who was often called upon to participate in screening and interviewing prospective employees. My highest priority was to try to determine the applicant’s attitude. I found 100% of the time that an individual who had a desire to learn, would. Also, I found that mechanical inclination is not gender specific. You, Anne, just put a huge smile on an old man’s face; I would have hired you on the spot.
This also put a huge smile on my face! Fuel & spark are the two basic things needed to run an engine. I have always maintained that teens should have to maintain a 20 year old car for several years before they are allowed to own a new one.
Yeah, decades as an engineering manager, and I agree fully. Persistence and curiosity make the day.
@@WayneSmith-yf3fg and compression.
That right there means more to me than you could ever know. I spent a lot of my young life feeling stupid, not understanding *why* some things were so hard for me to understand that everyone around me seemed to just get, right off the bat. I still have to do some tough workarounds, but learning to work with my hands rather than sitting at a computer has made me feel so much more capable and willing to tackle so much more than I ever thought I could. Each skill builds off the last, and I’m learning to love my failures a little more. I would have loved to work with and learn from you.
@@AnneofAllTrades , you far from stupid. In fact, intelligence is required to recognize that none of us knows everything, and that’s what stirs curiosity. The more an intelligent person knows, the more they realize that they don’t know.
I realize this video is a year old, but I just wanted to say your excitement when it started running put a smile on my face. Solving problems and figuring out how to fix or build things really is a joy. I worry a lot of people miss out on that. Also I really think that especially for kids solving problems can really build confidence and slowly opens a persons eyes to the possibilities in their own life. My mom is a science teacher and she always tries to create problem solving opportunities for kids in a way that really gets them engaged. She's said some kids really go through a transformation as they go through her class doing that. Love the videos! Keep learning!
This is my favorite video for the same reason. There are few times I've experienced this much joy and satisfaction in a silly project.
as a life long mechanic i was at first wanting to laugh at you when you said that now you needed to find the thing that looked like this. but i stop and realized that not everyone is like me and then i got inspired by your persistence. well done i am proud of you and i know you will get great enjoyment from your hard work.
Love the fact that you are not afraid to work on something you don't understand.. and willing to learn and fix it for yourself....
Further proving the "of all trades" moniker is truly deserved. Good job Anne.
Thank you!
I watched it twice because I never understood what the problem was. I’m guessing it was a clogged fuel filter but I don’t believe you ever said that exactly you just showed a new one and said you drop the old one and spent a lot of time talking about square space.
@@capn1600 it was that it needed a new carburetor, a new solenoid, new fuel lines, new filter, and a whole lot of tinkering and adjustments that happened over 3 months. Talking about squarespace for 30 seconds in a 12 minute video is what made it possible for you to watch the video for free, twice ;)
That huge whoop and ear-to-ear smile when it started says it all. I wish I could add a Galaxy Quest "Never give up! Never surrender!" GIF to this reply.
Hahaha I wish that too ;)
Great job! I love fixing stuff that "Cant be fixed"! Heck of a deal... Watered down beer for an ATV.
1. Fuel
2. Air
3. Spark
It’s fun watching you work your way through the troubleshooting process.
I think you're neighbor is going to want more 🍺 beer good job i Fricken just love your attitude and tenacity
We have learned the same way that the fuel filter is always the first place to start on small devices around our hobby farm. And I laughed when you smelled that it wasn’t diesel. I made that mistake once and promptly bought a yellow fuel can for diesel and 2 stroke fuel containers get a zip tie on the handle to differentiate from plain gasoline. I watched this video with my 4 yo daughter and she cheered for you when you got it working!
Haha yes colored cans are a good idea for SURE. Give your daughter a hi five from me!
Kinda how I felt about my Mitsubishi Raider. I am not a mechanic, I am a 54 yr old female. I had it at a Mitsubishi dealership, no one knew what was wrong. CZcams was a lifesaver and one guy from a parts store , a new control module, a new knock sensor, and by myself I changed the coil packs. I feel like a mechanic... lol 😂 GREAT JOB ANNE.
Heck yeah! That's how you get things done!
Nice to see it working and not dumped in the trash. I can see you have this figured out now, but there are only ever 4 things any petrol or diesel engine needs; Fuel, Air, Compression and Spark. If the combustion engine isn't running, you just need to work out which of the four it's missing. I'm always happy to see a novice home mechanic get an engine running when professional mechanics can't (be bothered to?) get it working.
"Now we need to find the thing that looks like this" Love it.....You make all of us feel less geeky about stuff like this. Hi from Australia by the way
Howdy! It’s important to take some of the mysteries out of things ;)
Good job. Way to be persistent and not give up. Seeing your big smile when you ride it for the first time made me smile as well.
People who are determined to try, no matter the knowledge level, skill level or physical abilities, will never be discouraged from accomplishing their goals. Grit and determination are two of the treasures that the pioneers of this nation have been gifted with. Anne, you are a true pioneer in all respects, not afraid of a challenge, willing to try your hand. You are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you for the kind words!
Can't see the forest for the trees. I worked at a dealership & was talking to a mechanic & he was trying to fix the headlights on an Audi. I asked if he checked the fuse. No? He'd just spent 2 hours replacing the lights & testing the wiring harness. It was the fuse. Dare I say, girls look at things differently. Great job Anne, really! I'm a tom boy too 😅
Awesome video. Reminds me of my own work on my purchase of a used ATV. New carb and she purred. When you jumped up feeling it come to life, i knew your joy. Respect!
As you first drove out of the garage, I thought you were riding straight over to your neighbor's place to scream out, "neener neener neener"
😁
Hahaha I should have but actually when I did drive over, he had a huge grin and gave me a hi five.
I got a little teary eyed watching this as I know how frustrating it is to be female and feel like you missed all the 'male lessons' on how to fix things. I bought acres a few years ago and I have been learning how to fix sooooo many things. Now I can tune up my riding mower and tractor by myself. I diagnosed the issue, ordered the part, and replaced a spindle on my riding mower a few months ago by myself. I diagnosed the issue, purchased the parts, and replaced my sump pump a few weeks ago. Sometimes I feel unstoppable. Whoop whoop. Girl power!!
Those fix it yourself moments are the best! I definitely wish I’d had a few more male lessons as you called them growing up, but I’m glad to have the opportunity to learn now :)
This is the best video about motorboats I've ever seen. You did great for your first carb clean job (15 year master motorcycle tech speaking) also never trust what a mechanic says about his own vehicles. Especially a non essential one.
My wife and I did an ATV tour recently and now that is all I want for Christmas 👍
They are so fun, and so handy!
The key to fixing anything is to understand how it works then you can figure out why is is not working, as that wonderful brain of your just demonstrated.
Just came across this video.Great to see a lovely lady who doesn't mind wrenching on stuff and getting her hands durty.Great job.Even though im three years late.Hope your still enjoying this Grizzly.I have the first gen Grizzly which were made from 1998-2001.
You are one of a kind . "Anne of All Trades" tells it all.
❤️❤️❤️
Proud of you Anne , I'm glad you didn't give up . just step away for bit , & try again it will come to you just have faith and you'll see .
Thank you! I’m glad too!
It's things like this that make me think I can work on my own car. It's just a machine, right? Machines have parts that do things. If you understand what those things are and how the parts do them, then you should be able to fix them. Easy peasy! 😁 Congrats on getting it running again, and thanks for sharing!
i'm so proud of you for trying and achieving your goal to understand and make it work.........be safe and enjoy
I love how Adam had a death grip while holding on to you 🤣🤣
He knows how I like to drive hahaha
You doing such a good job I'm happy that you got it started take care have a great day with it
Hands on experience is the only learning tool I have ever used...sometimes a win..sometimes a fail...congrats
Awesome job! I loved the smile on your face when it started. Made me smile right back.
omg this is soooo great... when that thing started and you hollerd... I felt that so strong...
Yeeehaw!
Well done. I cannot stress how many times I have had my “eureka” moments doing something completely different. Having a leaf blower give you the inspiration to fix the “carburetor” is a wonderful example. Good on you.
Thank you! Can you think of any of your eureka moments offhand? I always love hearing about those.
My most memorable was a 4 hour debate I had with a co-worker on how to implement symmetry in an optimization algorithm (yes, software). We had our breakthrough and realized this obeyed Newton’s 2nd law of motion. We then spent the next 10 min debating what solution would take the fewest CPU cycles. This reduced a 23-hour calculation down to 20 min.
Similarly, my training is in quantum chemistry. The Air Force assigned me to work Satellites. I succeeded because I simply thought of satellite orbits as electrons and was amazed at how well it worked and allowed me to “visualize” what was happening.
@@MichaelCoolidge That is pure awesome. I understood almost none of that, but I love, love, love seeing seemingly unrelated things answer big questions.
@@AnneofAllTrades I am an amateur tinkerer and I do as you do. Look it over and work on something in my mind first. I figure order of operation for woodworking. How the firearm works first before I take it apart. What a small engine needs to run and work it out by reasoning. I am wanting to try my hand with older wind watches, service and repair. So many cool things out there to learn.
Way to go.
The other guys only failed because they gave up.
I got a kick out of the Light Bulb moment - lol
Hello Anne,
I could not help but smile, as you discovered how your ATV worked mechanically. My first experience with a small engine was at 14, and it did not go well. I failed to put oil in a B&S engine at the hardware store I had just started working at, and let’s say, the engine did not run long. The store owner thought it would be a good learning experience for me to repair the engine and it started me on a life long journey to learn how things work. At 61, I realize, I only know a fraction of everything I still want to learn. I applaud your never give up, nothing is beyond my understanding approach to life. Stay safe, and continue to expand your knowledge and experiences. Thank you
When it doesn't run it comes down to 2 things: fuel or fire.
YOU DID IT!!!!!
Answer for the statement the 26th second? Yes, Anne, you are stubborn/tenacious enough to win!
As the saying goes "Never Give Up, Never Surrender!" You should be extremely proud, you have done an awesome thing by saving another machine. That machine will likely serve you very well especially because you cared enough to save it. This video is exactly why I make videos on how to repair things like gas equipment like trimmers, chainsaws the like. I get great satisfaction when I hear back that someone was able to save their own machine from the trash. Your video will help inspire others to realize that they too can fix their stuff. Great Job!
There’s nothing quite like fixing stuff yourself. Thanks for making those videos, I’ve probably watched one of them trying to fix my chainsaw ;)
Just add another trade to the list. You can’t teach perseverance like that! Great job!
Thank you! A few more wrenches for the tool belt :) each lesson builds on the last!
Love that you got it running!!!! I learned a little about carburetors in the process too so thanks! My old truck (1972 Ford F100) is in the shop now and when they were talking about the carburetor I had no idea what it did. Now I know which is a good feeling. I'm sure you'll get tons of use out of the ATV and nice that you gave it a new life!
Wooo! Proud of you for sticking with it!
💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Outstanding job Anne. My wife and I so admire what you do!
Thank you!
Way to go, Having too much fun and got it done...Big Thumbs UP!!!
Carburator"Now I just need to find the thing that looks like this"🤣
hahaha classic
I quit high school and am now a doctor. In between I was MANY things and honestly that exact approach will help you fix a carburetor, washing machine or an appendix!!
@@DoctorPrepperMD absolutely agree! I've always been discouraged from pursuing my many interests, but reading a book called Range recently gave me a wonderful perspective and the desire to be a lot more stubborn when people tell me I should "focus" more ;)
@@AnneofAllTrades Anne, as far as I can tell, you are focused. You are focused on learning and doing. And you are terrific.
@@AnneofAllTrades Farmers, ranchers and general country folks need to be able to do many things. One of my Favorite quotes ends "specialization if for insects."
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you work on the ATV I'm a Retired mechanic Love to see young people do mechanic work and you have a great work ethic Keep up the good work
Way to go, Anne! Sticktoitiveness for the win!
Absolutely!
Nice work. Your patience is obviously worth money.
Girl you are my spirit animal lol. So proud of you!!
Great time troubleshooting with Anne of All Trades!!
Thanks for being here!
You rock Anne! Goes to show you that mechanics aren't all they are cracked up to be. Fuel line, carburetor, battery are the basic go to things you look at when an engine doesn't work. Geesh!
Thank you!
Not even gonna lie this is hands down my favorite video from you Anne! Congratulations and great job!
Patience and reflexion paid off! Good job!
Ha, that's showing them how it's done you legend you! 👍🏽
Sweet as, even hubby is enjoying the fruits of your labour. 👌🏽
He’s definitely proud, and so am I!
You constantly amaze me with your perseverance and your passion for learning ❤️ this was so heartwarming to watch.
Thank you!!
Not Bad, not bad at all! Looks like you impressed Adam ? LOL! Imagination and initiative! Good job! Remember to check the gas tank before every start.
I am a mechanic. Have been for many moons. This was wicked! You are awesome annie. Never surrender. An good on ya fer a new carb. They can be rebuilt, it doesn’t mean you should. Super proud of you.
Thank you!!
You are AMAZING!!!!
Nothing better than getting and old engine to start when you are on the brink of giving up. Good job! This put a smile on my face.
It put a big smile on mine too! Thanks for watching!
Love the video Anne on the ATV .
Your really smart you also did a great job of fixing up your 4 wheeler congratulations
due to your personality and desire to learn, you just gained another sub.
Amazing what you can fix by taking it apart and cleaning stuff!
Anne you should have cut the old fuel filter open to see how plugged up it was, i know alot of mechanics that miss this step when diagnosing a no start problem. Good job and keep on learning.👍🍻
What a wonderful sense of accomplishment! Two thumbs way up!!
The big grin on your fax face says it all. Love your perseverance!
Fantastic, once again, the problem wasn't as big as you were resourceful, methodical, reasonable thinking, wins the day, Happy Motoring!
Thanks Tony!
I am soooooo proud of you Anne!!!!!!!!!!! It does not matter what you are or want to call yourself Mechanic or not. Perseverance passion and believe in oneself is all that you need!!!!!!!!!! Blessings to you and your family!!!!!!!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I want to see some vids of you rippin up the Farm. LOL. GREAT JOB AND INSPIRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!
You needed to drive it to your neighbor so we could have seen his reaction lol. Nice job Awesome Anne!!
Oh I should have gotten that on video too, but he gave me a big hi five and a cheers.
You are AWESOME!! Can only imagine how good it felt to bring it back to life! Totally inspirational...
That was such a fun moment!
Nothing like figuring something out and making it work!
She is woman, hear her roar!! You are so cool Anne!
I'm so happy you got it to run have fun
Great job on fixing the 4 wheeler Anne! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks for watching!
Your very welcome Anne! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving to you and your family!🦃😎
Just discovered this channel a couple weeks ago, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favourites!
Congrats, it’s super frustrating when your stuff breaks and but rewarding when it all works out!
Thanks so much! That makes me happy to hear! Yes it is so much more rewarding fixing broken stuff than buying new, especially when you don't have the $$ for new anyway!
Wow, you're so cool. Thanks for the blower starting the fire trick, been having a problem starting my brush pile. Never would have entered my mind to use my leaf blower, duh, lol.
Glad to help, just make sure you're practicing safe fire maintaining methods and don't let that fire get out of hand ;)
Your curiosity and enthusiasm to keep learning is awesome Anne.
Well done! You've nailed it. To work, every car / combustion engine needs fuel, air and a spark as a minimum to work. So what you did is just right:see if these 'ingredients' were there and fixed this to achieve them. It doesn't always fix [every] problem but it is THE set of essentials... Enjoy the ride!
Anne, your “sticktoitiveness” wins again.
A fun project indeed!
The lessons: Be fierce and relentless. 'Can't' is a filthy 4-letter word, so don't even think it. You are never out of the fight!
I think your new moto should be "It's not working - yet." And because you don't know anything about that thing it may take a little longer. You are truly an inspiration. Keep it up.
Fantastic video! Its awesome watchin people learn, thanks for sharing!
Awesome victory. Congrats on the new machine!
Girl!!! your the bomb!!! i was super impressed … i shared your video with my buddy! i told him there is still hope out there, which i came up with the idea of finding a broken down 4 wheeler for a case of Coors light. cheers and God Bless!!
You are awesome Wowen 👌 👏 I am very Proud of You.....
Congratulations. That is great.
Do get a helmet. I see lots of injuries from ATVs
Best regards

I definitely will, especially now that I have a running machine!
And wear it even for short trips . I HAD a friend who didn't get to learn that lesson .
Awesome job on fixing the quad 🙂 there's lots to be proud of especially being that how many mechanics gave up on the bike and you were able to get it going? That's awesome 🙂
Thank you! It’s been such a fun little prokect
@@AnneofAllTrades you are most welcome I really enjoy working on things like quads and such myself,it is pretty fun and rewarding to see the end results afterwards
Making something have life again is so
rewarding 👍
I agree! It’s the best feeling ever!
Anne you are so awesome. Perseverance always pays off! You have encouraged me to get back after that power washer I have that will not stay running unless I keep spraying starting fluid in it.
You are amazing never giving up.Good job.
That's awesome! I'm somewhat of a shade tree mechanic, I work on my own stuff, and I get so frustrated sometimes at the smallest things. If I can make myself take a break and go eat a bite or have a glass of tea then most of the time whatever is wrong will just come to me and I can go back and fix it. Thanks for the video.
great job and I'm glad you didn't give up on your dream
Love your content of your videos…as a word of advise, It would be helpful if you list links to the CZcams videos you talk about
But great job…and sometimes you just have to walk away until you have that moment of inspiration to go at it again
Enjoy your new farm machine!!!
Thanks again for making me smile and I hope I pass enough information on to my grand daughter that she has the will and attitude like your!!!!
Score! Nice job understanding what you need for a engine to run. Fuel, Air, Spark, and compression. The carburetor must have been affordable, too bad modern cars are not as simple and inexpensive to repair. Congratulations on your new toy, Job Well Done!
Total score! This was such a fun project.
The look on your face was priceless, great job. Never give up attitude will win everytime.
Thank you! Such a fun moment!!
Anne you go girl!!! I'm super proud of you. Them ah uh moments are the best, makes you realize just how smart you really are. Chive on...
WOW! Congrats in getting it running, how special that must feel. I learned a long time ago that a farmer will figure out all sorts of things in order to keep the farm running smoothly... you just passed this test as well! Thanks for sharing!!
Best compliment I could get! Farmers are great fixers because they’ve got a wide variety of experiences to pull seemingly unrelated knowledge from, as well as a patience that surpasses human logic most of the time!
Good job Anne, I really admire the way you think thins through!!!
