I've seen them through all of their different phases. In the early days, I saw them live when they recorded the live tracks of the Album "Fandango" at the Warehouse in New Orleans. That was 1974. I saw them again on tour in 1976. And again in 2000. Always put on a great show and I literally grew from my teenage years till now, listening to their music. They were all 19 years old when they started the Band and started playing live shows. They celebrated their 50 year anniversary in 2020, and they all turned 70 years old together that year. They are all 74 years old now, except for Dusty Hill, the Bass Player who passed away in 2021. His Guitar Road Tech "Elwood" took his place in the band at his request.

When ZZ Top got together around 1970, they did not have beards 😂 but they did have a drummer named Frank Beard who has no beard...
Billy Gibbons (guitar & vocals) was teen from Texas in 1968 when his band opened for the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, who told his peers that this kid (Gibbons) was his favorite guitar player! Sadly, Jimi Hendrix died in 1970 before ZZ Top put out their 1st album 😪
Billy Gibbons wanted to form a rock trio like the Jimi Hendrix Experience... He auditioned local musicians and Frank Beard (drums) joined, followed by Dusty Hill (bass & vocals) in 1970... Them 3 had a unique groove and sound and they remained ZZ Top until bassist Dusty Hill's death in 2021... ZZ Top was signed in 1971 w/ their (then) manager/ producer Bill Ham and dropped their 1st album that year... The band toured the US without a break and by 1973, their 3rd album ('Tres hombres') had a hit single on radio - 'La grange' ... 4th album 'Fandango' in 1975 yielded the hit 'Tush' sung by bassist Dusty Hill... and their 1976 album 'Tejas' went gold as well.
Unfortunately, drummer Frank Beard was battling drug addictions in the 70's and by 1977, he checked into rehab... Gibbons and Hill decided to take a break as well, opting for ZZ Top on hiatus until Frank Beard would return.
2 years later, Frank Beard returned to ZZ Top... In 1979, Gibbons and Hill arrived to work on a new album sporting huge beards (from not shaving for 2 years 😂) while Frank Beard was clean shaven... The band insisted it was pure coincidence. But the 2 guys looked so striking w/ the beards while they rehearsed that they decided to keep that look... It would be the image that defined ZZ Top from that point forward.
'Deguello' was their comeback album in 1979 and ZZ Top was getting even more popular... In 1983, they released the album 'Eliminator' w/ more synthesizers and beats (Billy Gibbons was a huge fan of UK pop band Depeche Mode) w/ Gibbons' vintage car ('The Eliminator') on the cover - with MTV airing their music videos, the album sold over 10 million copies and made them a global sensation in the 80's.
They followed it up w/ the 'Afterburner' album in 1985 which sold 5 million copies in the US... Their 1990 album 'Recycler' sold platinum, but ZZ Top's albums in the 90's sold considerably less.
After 2003, ZZ Top decided to be a 'legacy' band and toured extensively on their catalog of music... Their last album 'La futura' was released in 2012... A documentary movie about their career was released in 2019 - "ZZ Top: That lil' ol band from Texas".
They recently announced new music would be coming soon which late bassist Dusty Hill had contributed to.

I saw them in the first time in the volkshaus in zürich 1979. They played only 70 minutes, but this were the best minutes with zz top in my life. Then in 1980 they had success in the whole world. I say you a secret
1993 i sang this song in a kareoke evening in rapperswil, switzerland. And i won against 20 other challengers. Good night, have a nice weekend. Talk you.

Another great reaction to an iconic band. They've been around for over 50 years, and are one of the longest running bands. They started around 1970. Billy Gibbons the guitarist was in a group called The Moving Sidewalks around 1969, and Jimi Hendrix was having them tour with him . Jimi Hendrix mentored Gibbons .

The members of ZZ was the same from first day til Dusty Hill passed away fairly recently. He was the bass player and secondary lead singer. He sang lead vocals or co-lead vocals on a number of their songs. The drummer, Frank Beard often sang back up, but sang lead vocals on their classic song “LaGrange”.
These men were absolute masters of studio production and equal masters of live performances.
Don’t let lil Lulu read this comment….im glad she didn’t pick up on the (ever-present) hidden naughty lyrics…like in this one. “If I blow my top, will you let it go to your head?!?”! Haha! Yeah!
Also!….big momma!…I’ll never forget being a teen in the late 80s/early 90s being in line in early mornings to get half-decent seats for shows! LOL!
    Bless ya’ll! More ZZ Top!
(Also, I noticed the microphone is still clipping, cutting out what you ladies are saying! Gotta invest in a new and better mic and some acoustic foam for the room, etc.)
I say it outta love, understand! 🙂

I went to a rival high school from where they went. They were a couple of years ahead of me. You need to listen to some Beach Boys, Crosby - Stills - Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, & The Mamas and Papas. One thing I have never figured out is why people have to bop their heads around when listening to music. I just lean back and enjoy. My first concert was Chicago and Bad Company.
