People were hating on Robben after 2010 because of the World Cup final and 2012 ucl final he had that Higuain label of a choker but since then he was amazing when they won the ucl in 2013 and had an amazing World Cup 2014. Every footballer needs to battle adversity. Now Robben is one of the best wingers ever.

Notice the difference in how they touch the ball and their body language when each does it.
Robben is taking all of his touches with the front of his foot while his body is closed and facing straight. this means that he can maintain/increase his speed much easier when he takes that bigger touch and it would be very easy for him to go in any direction. with this, he doesn't actually have to beat the defender with the dribble and he can beat him on pace since hes already in the position to run.
Timbsy on the other hand, is taking touches with the inner part of his foot and has his body opened up, facing a bit sideways. the problem with that is while it is easier to keep control of the ball and gives you a wider range of movement for skills, its harder to gain that burst of speed to take off on a dribble cuz you have to re-position your body in a running form. with this, you actually have to beat the defender with an unexpected dribble or wait until he lunges and then react and then the Robben Dribble no longer works. you don't have as much control of the pace because you and your defender are in the same positioning general body positioning to start your run.

Finally! cant believe he didnt tell timbsy that. I've never seen someone older than 6yo run at a defender while controling the ball with the inside of their foot. Its so slow and unnatural. This is such basic knowledge I really cant understand how no has told timbsy that. and he records videos about football with professional footballers..??

Robben was born with it. Plus he trained with that signature move maybe since he was kid so no suprise he could replicate the move and did the same thing with defenders couldn't stop him.

Look at his movements. He has trained the movements in depth .The acceleration and the shooting is synchronized and also their is an aspect of perfect timing on the cutting inside .Reading the situation and then hitting the tagert.

He plays his move like chess as he unfolds many variations out of one move. That makes predictable players deadly unpredictable.

He takes little touches, slows it down, saves his energy. Then that one big touch he does where he increases his speed does the trick.
Theres an element of surprise but i think a defender as fast as him could give him a hard time & force him onto his right foot
The big thing that makes it so effective is like he said, the person with the ball controls the pace. he gets to make the move first so as long as the defender isn't faster then him, he pretty much always wins
FootPauler Yeah but its still predictable, at which point its only reliant on timing against a fast LB. Btw whos the fastest LB that you can think of
thats true. I feel to do it as well as the Robben and those guys, its a combination of a lot of things tbh. timing, body positioning/language, change of pace, etc. Also I couldn't really say for LB. I would say Jordi Alba but I watch mostly Barca matches so id definitely say i have a bias. What about you?

In a sense, YES. But, depending on how the defender is standing and the space around, Robben makes small different micromovements each time which make him unpredictable.
The key is in his ball control: the ball is always very close to the foot which allows him move it around as he pleases. This is a skill he shares with Messi. That, added to their incredible pace and shooting, makes this move just impossible to defend when executed correctly.
