Even though this is some of your older content this is still one of my favorite videos of yours. The Romulans have always held a dear place in my heart. The D'deridex was always my favorite ship in TNG and seeing the sleek new Kerchan model is astounding. Well done indeed!
Everytime he says the D'deridex, have a drink of beer. ....... I'm drunk
Dam thats a good idea. I'm gonna restart this and try it
Hahahahaha!! You're right!! He mentions it often!! I will buy the next round!!
Are you insane
30 mentions. Hope you lads where sipping, not chugging.
Well, my liver hates me now.
Very well done! I always wondered what replaced the D'Deridex class warbird. Romulan ships always held a special place in my heart. Thank you for expanding and telling their lore.
This is like watching the old soviet documentaries.
Thought the same thing, “Wings of The Red Star”
Guess it's a good thing the narrator's voice has a certain Sir Peter Ustinov quality to it...
Been thinking the same thing while binge watching them.. do you think it was intentionally done this way... ps.. wins of the red start were awesome documentaries
100% wings of the red star. What a wonderful series. I would love so see a Sovereign class episode.
Those WW2 ones? I LOVED those!!!

I hope the numerous people commenting "there are no g forces in space" are just very young and haven't taken a basic high school physics course yet... I really do. Thre most cringy are those that double down when someone tries to educate them.
@SonofEyeaboveall Effoff good point.
Isn't that the whole point of inertial dampners and warp bubbles? (The latter also for FTL pockets) Basically to argue away G-forces? Other sci-fi does the same thing, with their own flare. I think Star Wars ships technically use repulser technology to cancel out G-forces.
So I guess it depends on what one means by "no g forces in space"...per Einstein, acceleration and gravity are indistinguishable, so if you have an acceleration force in direct opposition to gravitational force, they can cancel out.
...then again, when most people say "G-forces", they aren't talking about gravity anyway (even if they think they are), it's just ANY acceleration converted into what that would be like as a multiple/fraction of sea level Earth gravity. In which case we're just looking at one acceleration/deceleration (force; F = ma -> a = F/m) vs a compensating technology produced acceleration/force opposing it.
I love how the ship pics shift between colors. Nice effect!
this is truly good stuff. and the wings of the red star format hits a home run.
Main fault I can see from the generation of Romulan ships we saw in Nemesis, seemingly weaker shields and hardly any hull armor but likely much cheaper and faster to produce and flits around like a butterfly. Also you get extra brownie points for showing off a photo of my beloved Andreus Katsulas, the world is poorer for his absence in it, a phenomenal actor and by all accounts a very kind philosophical human.
Tonight! On Discovery Channels, Wings! Wings of Romulus.
What I Like About This Video Is That The Romulas Kerchans Leader Went On To Star In Star Trek Deep Space Nine As Gul Dakat Stars Always Revive Thier Roles As Other Star Trek Cast Members.
God Ive loved Rom ships and this only backs up my love for them
What a great historical documentary on romulan warships. Such thorough/detailed information. A series of these would be wonderful.
there already is see my channel
A large number of small ships is probably more economically efficient than a small number of large ships. However, if the small ships can't collectively penetrate the large ships shield, then the large ship wins. At least this was the logic of the battle system from the game "Astro Empires."
Small ships on kamikaze runs defeat the large ships every time. Dominion War, Lesson #1.
The narrator almost sounds like a Romulan which is apt.
...You mean .... that's not a Romulan ?
The narration reminds me of the narrator of an old show from the discovery channel back in the 90s. It was called “Wings-Wings of the Red Star”. Great memories...good video.
thanks its what inspired me. the awesome Russian jets, with the strong voice of peter ustianov. they don't make them like they used to.
SilentShadow7r7 absolutely!
Wings of red star, you had wings of the luftwaffe, a bunch of good sub series!
You sound a lot like Ustinov, who had a tempo much like Hitchcock's who was about a decade/ hollywood generation older. Hitchcock sounded far more "British."
Ustinov!
Jolan tru, wonderful video! I have been a Romulan fan since the early 70's and this video was just the thing I needed. Just be cautious with what information you give out. I wouldn't want the Tal Shiar to pay you a visit.
The Kerchan Class Battleship is the coolest and wickedest starship in the Alpha Quadrant. One beautiful, bad-ass machine!
Rick Hess I wonder if engineering specs of the scimitar were incorporated into this ship
@@eugenebridgesii7582 I believe you're right, Eugene!
In the video game Romulans had Black hole engines and used long range death bolts that would search and destroy targets without the Romulans having to reveal their ships. And when you did find them their shields were strong af.

200,000 Views! wow thanks to everyone for all the support. when i started this series i had no idea just how much people would like it. im glad you guys like it, because i know i love making it! thanks to all my viewers new and old! :D
It would be great if you do a video of the Romulan warbirds in the original Star Trek series. I enjoyed the ones you've done on the Kerchan, D'deridex and Neorexan classes.
@@taraswertelecki7874 im not saying its in the works. but...
can you do a vid on your own or with either trekyards, spacedock, eckhartsladder or all of the above in doing a design comparison between the kerchan, scimitar & valdore classes?
Dude I love the detail where'd you get all that information anyways
Amazing research.... feels like movies can be made based on your videos (y)
Trivia: 1:44 the additional Nacelle pods of this ship were made from highlighter pens. No joke. More a stroke of genius in a pinch for time production wise.
You give a good talk. A fine enough show.
Well that's quite the video. I love stuff done in this format. Looking forward to more.
thanks, i had a lot of fun making this so i definitely plan on doing more.
It really started showing its age against the Akira class Federation ship.
Fantastic video, really enjoyed it. Very happy to find your channel!
Defiant and Akira class ripped the romulan ships apart. Even the Negvar had trouble with those.
philip dias, and that’s not all the federation could bring to bear in a given situation as the dominion war and the borg threat brought out numerous ships designed to be compact, powerful, and quickly produced.
@@nsatoday I would like to see a series with the akira the hero ship
@@billc3271 you and the youtuber lorereloaded bud.
Plz, the Dominion combat tactic was wiping the Federation most advance warships into stats. The Defiant was protected by plot armor and Romulan cloaking technology, even Capt. Sisko wasn't risking the Defiant on Klington cloaking tech.
@@TwiceStruck FYI the defiant was using Romulan clocking tech... Yes initially the Dominion was wiping the floor with Starfleet older ships not until they rev up production of the akira, steamrunner, sovereign, and upgrades to the Galaxy and Excelsior class. Also they change tactics maxing their newer and older ships. Yes Defiant did have plot armor but it is the main ship and it did get destroyed once.
"sacrificed speed and science" Warlocks! I knew it.
I've only recently started listening to this channel and so far I like it.
To be correct...First replacement for D'deridex are: Valdore/Mogai battle cruisers :) Kerchan came after
Just love your input, so interesting and well presented - please keep it up!
I love this ship! Wow, the Romulans are back!
same, i really hope they get used in the new picard tv series, its just such a menacing looking ship.
Terrifyingly amazing!
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I love how the silhouette forms an perfect oval while still retaining the bird like beak and hooked wings or talons. Unusual top down profile with is its thin neck and head but overall a worthy replacement. The Death Bird analogy is extremely fitting and fits perfectly with the aftermath of War of Quadrants from afar as well as an uprising/Insurrection from within by Remus.
I love this video. I love the D'deridex but baby the Kerchan is everything! I just got a Kerchan model today and man it looks great!
That music always makes me play that game after watching these... Every time. Luvit
I really enjoyed this and it's the first vid of yours I've seen. I should point out that I like vids of this type because they are often entertaining, even if not cannon. They are also GREAT sources that I love to use in RPG's I play. This one is something my Star Trek Adventures group is very likely to see in the future. I'm going to take a look at your D'deridex analysis next. Maybe one day you'll hear people tell you about sounding like an admiral they heard in a briefing once lol. Thanks again and enjoy.
thanks glad you liked it. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Excellent. The dramatic narrative was very well done and the information you impart is fascinating. Please continue the series. 👌🍾👍
I really wish the ship was on Star Trek online. This would be my main ship! I am in love with this design!!
It's a D-9 ovum held in a d'De... shell. I say Thank you for posting. Excellent effort, with a few mistakes. Again, "Thank - You!" I admire your work.
Thanks... hope the channel really grows.
Love your obsession with Romulans! :)
Awesome job--the work you put into these vids is amazing.
One thing, though--with those old-style warp engines and that D-7-ish 2ndary hull, this ship looks like it should come before the D'Deridex, not after. Imo, of course.
thing is in trek they swing between a smoother aesthetic to a sharper more angular aesthetic. eg; Enterprise D> Enterprise E. so that you get designs which while centuries apart share an Aesthetic.
Just build 30 Scimitar class ships minus the radiation weapon. It could have easily taken out the new Enterprise class but they needed the Captain alive.
Radiation is a generalisation. The Scimitar class prototype had a thalaron emitter weapon, which thalaron research was banned by the New Khitomer Accords.
It was also designed by the remans.
@SonofEyeaboveall Effoff lol thanks
Great content, but the music needs work..I understand the reason many use it..but volume And timing is a major issue..the content and your voice should be the priority here. I see this is a new channel and I love the info,so I will subscribe hopefully you work out the kinks and don't take it personally
The Borg had the best design for their ships.
nothing projects more fear than a flying no no square spaceship
Minecraft
I feel that the D'deridex class and all Romulan ships for that matter were extremely over rated as war ships. From everything I've seen (at least on screen canon) they have way more bark than bite. Let's take the D'deridex class, it was designed as a massive battleship and at the end if the day it was roughly on par with the galaxy class which was basically a luxury cruise liner with shields and some weapons. When that same class came up against actual federation warships with even numbers, even just light cruisers and frigates (the defiant and Akira class) they didn't stand a chance.
@Fred Miller Jr Yeah they seemed completely helpless. Although those orbital platforms were nasty.
I wouldn't be surprised if like The Imperial Star Destroyer a lot of its design was intimidation factor with glaring weaknesses that if exploited make destroying them easier than you would think.
Man this thing has the same maximum warp speed of the Federation Intrepid Class warp 9.975 meaning if the Intrepid Class were at it's maximum warp speed of 9.975 the Romulan Kerchan Class would be able to keep up with it.
"Target all weapons to the two neck structures, fire at will!"
(Romulan Warbird "Head/Bridge" floats away from main hull...)
"Captain, we're being hailed by the Romulans "
Captain: "Open channel.."
Romulan Commander: " We will comply, Captain.."
in fairness it would also pretty easy to cause an unexpected saucer separation on a lot of starfleet ships. everyone is pretty guilty of this design flaw but its part of star treks look.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Also in any design there would be Primary and secondary shielding, and hull integrity bracing and plating, especially enhanced in the most vulnerable areas of any ship design, so any ship being able to get in close enough to "break the back" of one of these ships would probably be too heavily damaged to continue to fight afterwards.
That is totally a problem that the Scimitar class Battleship addresses you see how compact she is
@@venomgeekmedia9886 it pretty much doubles the targets on your screen man which is a good thing
@@ChrisSmith-qx6wt but not as good looking.
I was under the impression that the Negh'var class of ship wasn't really put into production in the canon. There were only a very limited few commissioned and they were typically under the direct command of well off families or very high ranking generals like Martok.
yeah it certainly was never as prolific as other battleships. but as a status symbol and demonstration of tech. it showed that the klingons could, if they wished play the battleship game. however in reality they lacked the resources to do so.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Endgame had them mass producing them and the screen caps make it clear they aren't Voodiehs.
I have Kerchan art as my desktop picture for like 8 years and I think it`s perfect design as s D`deridex scucessor. We had to see those in Picard but the whole show is only about disappointment
One of these ships shows up near your ship or planet and the methane level rises. Except on a Borg ship of course.
Klingon ships can just turn as they manouvre to keep their enteire forward weapons array facing their target to keep firing while still moving fast. They also have aft torpedoes usually. Even the b rell can do this. Even the old designs like b rells and k vorts are still effective in the dominion war because they are just guns armor and engines. Good vid as always though man. Nice work.
also small crew less than 50
Too bad they were flown by klingons. I doubt anybody on board was able to do much more than bang rocks together and grunt at each other.
I am going to share with some of my Geeking buddy's.
May I say that IMO the back ground music is too loud.
I love the story line! I want the Romulan to be very High Tech and powerful maybe not have as many ships as the Federation or Klingon empires but more powerful than either in individual combat.
I would love to hear something about the Cloaking Devices the Romulans have, being decades ahead of the klingon type and the rumored Federation prototype, the Cloaking Device is what makes the Romulans so feared after all!
Great breakdown
Going through and rewatching these for the return

Amazing looking Battleship it Max Warp Speed is the same as the Federations Intrepid class Starship
didn''t know that, personally i don't like the whole warp 9.99...... sort of thing, just redraw the scale again! how did you enjoy the video?
@@venomgeekmedia9886 actually, Intrepid could sustain max 9,975 for 12 hours. Sustainable speed was about Warp 6.
Great video but the music got a little loud at times and hard to hear you.
Klingon ships just turn to face their targets in battle keeping their guns (all their guns) fixed on their target as they move quickly to evade return fire. They can manouvre quickly and turn their guns on a chosen target at any point they are very manouvreable.
I think the best one they made was the one from the last TNG movie. It just looks like a natural D’Deridex replacement.
I like that you music is so loud that i can't hear you. Well done.
I like the video and the ship. :) I so wish that eaglemoss would make a model of the kerchan to complete my romulan collection!
D'deridex are still my favourite
I have one observation of this ship, the neck could easily be severed when her shields go down.
Nika Longstrike
The same could be said of Starfleet’s warp nacelles. I think it’s just a given that Star Trek ships are structurally weak and rely on shields and forcefields.
@@kevinshu4883 agreed
That could be said of MOST ships in the Star Trek franchise. I imagine if in the future vessels anything like this ship would be built very differently that the ones in Star Trek.
Their main reactor would be an easy target for the Kerchan's, let alone the D'deridex's heavy disruptors once they took out the shields.
Unbelievable...😂😂😂😂😂
D'Deridex was under powered, slow and lumbering. Without a cloak it was basically a huge target. And with Federation sensors they weren't as stealthy as hoped. I guess against an Ambassador Class they'd be terrifying. Against a Galaxy Class not so much. They never engaged a Galaxy Class and the Galaxy Class stood up to the Dominion ships better than the D'Deridex did. If the Romulans started a war breaking the Treaty of Algeron within a few months Federation ships would be phased cloaked and the Klingons wouldn't sit on the side lines. Imagine a Sovereign class or a Phoenix class with phased cloaking. Even a Luna Class with phased Cloaks would be unstoppable.
by the late 2360s i would agree that the romulans would be unlikely to overwhelm starfleet. but when it was first launched, it had no parallel. only with the introduction of the 'anti-borg' starfleet was the d'deridex outclassed. also bear in mind the numbers in which the d'deridex was constructed.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 you seem to forget, that D'Deridex was romulan equivalent of Excelsior class ! run-of-the mil, basic workhorse ! Still could contend with everything except Borg or Dominion Battleship, but for the later Romulans designed Scimitar ! Also, at beginning of Dominion war, doctrine and technology was able to hand its own stern to *any* starship in the quadrant.
Romulan cloak > Klingon cloak. Semitar cloak was said to be perfect.
@@deadlynytshayd2220 "Romulan cloak > Klingon cloak"
A Klingon Bird of prey being parked over Romulus for most of Unification I and II and nobody noticing implies Klingon cloaks are on par with Romulan ones.
Brilliant work! :)
thanks i hope you check out the rest of the series.
Funnily enough, the Kerchan has always struck me as looking like more of a precursor to the D'Deridex than a successor, given the 23rd century styling of the engines and the leaner shape overall.
an interesting idea, however in my view the Romulans didn't start constructing large warships till after the kithomer accords. when you say 23rd century styling are you thinking the TMP enterprise and excelsior, there is a pattern in trek where technology seems to go between rounded soft shapes (TNG TOS) and sharp, leaner shapes (The Movies.) in my next video i will address how romulan shipbuilding changed at the turn of the century.
The styling I'm referring to in particular is that of the D7. The detailing of the grilles is certainly more intricate than on the Romulan D7, but the bulky lines of the engines remind me of an era of design that perhaps followed a little after that, e.g. TMP and the K't'inga. Not that I'm saying it does come from that era, mind, as you're absolutely right about the designs we see seeming to change from one form to another and then back again.

Yes, but can it run Crysis ?
Loved the video. Hard to hear some parts of it die to music playing over you. Otherwise really cool video.
A bit of a buzz I should not have cursed but the Scimitar is hands-down the baddest ship in the alpha quadrant
This voice! You’re nuts!

Wow great story telling.
You sound like these things are reality.
Until 2387 when romulus was destroyed and the star empire started to decline
The klingon ships in trek have forward facing weapons mostly but they can still maintain a cinstant rate if fure as they turn on the spot to keep their weapons facing their targets. Klingin ships are mainky weapons engines and armor so even with alot of older designs used during the bext gen era they are cimpetitive still. They can move very fast and evasive and still stay facing their targets firing
Nice Data and info. Well done:)
(Just one thing, music levels are a bit high, kind of overwhelms your narrations.)
Didn’t the Star empire crumble when Romulus was destroyed by a supernova?
yes but that was 2389. this series was made before that.
well done the music at times was so loud it was hard to hear your voice
I didn't find the music as loud as you did (granted, everybody's hearing is different) - but it could be pretty distracting, especially around minutes 17-18. But I primarily felt that the application of music was pretty random.
At the end, he kicked it up so loud you couldn't understand him. No idea why youtubers think that it helps to drown their own voices out.
Love this warbird
I listened for quite a while until this guy mentioned the Kerchan doing High-G maneuvers? That it became clear he was making everything up, with no respect to canon. High-G maneuvers? in Space? With ships that have fictional dampeners? oy.
G-forces do occur in space. There is a reason why ships in the Star Trek universe have structural integrity force fields that literally help the ship from breaking apart while maneuvering. Even as slow as our NASA spacecraft move if not calculated correctly they can be pulled apart by g-forces. Now consider the size and speeds of these fictional ships. Even then there is a reason the larger more cumbersome ships don't maneuver as fast.
That's it.....I'm subscribing....
I watched episodes about the Earth/Romulan War, the battle of Wolf 359, the history of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey, and now the successor to the Romulan D'deridex battle cruiser, and I have been greatly impressed with each episode. So very well written and researched! Nicely done! LLAP!
Why did the D'Deridex do as badly as Miranda's in the Dominion war?
Well their targeting systems couldn't track so many ships at once and the Dominion has tens of thousands of ships. They'll usually have fleets larger than the Alpha Quadrant's powers so when tracking so many ships, the weapons will fire inaccurately and it doesn't possess the weapons to combat fighters.
It's maneuverability didn't grant it any favors and the exposed engine nacelles would make it a sitting duck.
Against the smaller attack ships it's size and lack of sophisticated targeting sensors meant it would quickly find itself overwhelmed (think of it was a pack of lions working together to kill a single elephant). Against the battle cruisers the D'Deridex lacked the speed and maneuverability and the battle cruisers could simple keep out of range or attack when they a position that was favorable and up against the battle ships it was simply out gunned. At the end of the day the D'Deridex whilst it looked impressive in person and on paper it's sensors, defense systems and warp engines were poor compared to it's contemporaries and as result performed poorly in large scale combat. It should be noted that although in combat it struggled against more sophisticated ships it was far from useless, it's weapon systems still packed a punch (plasma torpedoes especially) and it's large size made it useful for sending huge amounts of troops and supplies to combat areas
kerchan vs reman warbird?
Voyager ship and the romulan war ship are the one I really like
The D'deridex is a beautiful ship on screen. it looks amazing. I am not a fan of the new designers who seem to love these long, skinny ships. They did it with some of the Star Fleet ships, and they did it to the Romulan ones.. they don't look good on screen at all imo.
Most impressive.
7:40 - The design of that Romulan ship reminds me of the design of the Covenant CCS battlecruisers in Halo
personally i always thought it was more like the CAS carriers. but there definitely is overlap in design styles.
And the Kerchan would crap itself when faced with the USS Voyager and all its futuristic tech from Admiral Janeway :P
Narrator sounds like he needs to eat more fibre
Prunes would be good, he could be full of it.
He cant even say dominion he said duminion
God job! But the narrator's slow, serious, dramatic, British voice kept me thinking that this was actually a 1950's documentary on the sex life of the Yellow Bellied Sapsucker. I laughed again and again, throughout the video.
20:56 - page turn.
amarr ships lookin pretty cool
Good clip. Two pieces of constructive criticism would be that the de deridex wouldn't be twice the size as the galaxy class. And the negvar isn't the same size as the galaxy class, it's probably twice the size. So, swap those two round and you're probably bang on
i'm going by official sizes verified by ex astris scientia the neghvar is pretty much the same as a galaxy class. the d'deridex is about 1200m but probably only has a little more internal volume.
Very odd. But thank you. Keep up the good work amigo.
Damn, the ship have an INTIMIDATING front profile!
there's a saying for building space ships:
