Christie's Understanding of Lab Results Helps in Managing Her Type 1 Diabetes (Teaser)

  • When Christie started experiencing symptoms of extreme fatigue and increased thirst at age 15 she was taken to the ER where she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Christie’s life was saved by laboratory testing and she continues to rely on quarterly tests to know how her diabetes is managed through Hemoglobin A1c testing. On a daily basis, Christie leverages technology for fast and easy access to her laboratory results and to track her blood sugar levels through a continuous glucose monitor. This device helps prevent against the adverse effects of high and low blood sugar. Since her diagnosis, Christie shares how she has become her own advocate in understanding her disease. Encouraging others to do the same, she shares the advantage that others can have in managing their diagnosis by understanding and learning from their lab testing.
