    My Dad took me to the observation deck at the TD Centre shortly after it opened in 1969. Still remember it like it was yesterday. That was the beginning of modern Toronto. Now, Toronto's future is world-class. Truly one of the world's greatest cities!!

    I LOVED the tour--so fun to get a peek behind the closed doors. Thank you TD for sharing and for valuing Canadian artists by purchasing, archiving and displaying significant works..

    I remember visiting the tower in 1968 and ascending an express elevator to the 56th floor where there was a museum of Inuit art and the far shore was visible that day !

    The thing that always stood out to me about TD Centre is the high quality of the materials used. Frankly, if you walk around in the banking area or the towers, everything looks simultaneously retro 1967 archaic and yet looking shining new. Mies only used the best stuff, and his buildings last without aging.

    I used to go to the restaurant called "The 54th" back in the 90's. Such a great restaurant.

    I was in Dentons office. Interesting facts about Italian stone and the table. But still it is MCM style, old times, classic interiors.

    "Mid-century modern" isn't a term used in the world of architecture. It's a term for a style of interior decor widespread from about 1945 to 1970. (It wasn't used at that time, though. It came into wide use in the last ~20 years.)
    The TD Centre is in the _International Style._ And it was not the first of that type in Toronto.
    These are basic facts, not obscure or highly specialized ones.

      Genuinely curious.. what would someone call a home that’s typically described to have mcm architecture then?

      Facts!! Parts of this video are overly scripted and inaccurate. Beautiful spaces, though!

  • @anthonymatthews3698
    @anthonymatthews3698 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Why describe it as mid century modern? They’re in the International Style, a well established global aesthetic for architecture. The whole MCM moniker is way overused, vague and often inaccurate.

    Rarely does one get to see this quality of acting outside of pornography of course. Nice building, but this would be far more enjoyable if it were a silent film.
