- The first tropical disturbance of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of any development, the slug of deep tropical moisture will shift away from Florida and become oriented toward the Texas or northern Gulf Coast. #foxweather #tropics

1. NOAA says 40% chance of this disturbance being anything more than wind and rain.
2. The wind shear is still dominating the entire region.
3. El Niño is still dominating the Pacific.
4. The reason why there are so many more named storms?
It is because tropical depressions are now given names that were once reserved for hurricanes only.
5. If the storm doesn't exhibit SUSTAINED WINDS of 74 MPH and a defined EYE, it shouldn't be on the list.
6. For reference, the average IS STILL 5.6 per year.
7. Warmer water doesn't create hurricanes.
