Thank you for this video. As you said yourself, for those of us who aren't rich, this is a big help. My dad gave us his stair and hall carpet a few months back and even though professionals refitted it, the pile was still down from my dad's use of it. I'll be trying the fork today!
Just found this video the other day and I have been going crazy with this method. It absolutely works! I had tried everything and was getting ready to get rid of the carpet. I have done 1/2 my living room and the carpet looks brand new! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’ve been using a dog brush that is designed to deshed them. Its metal and has a bunch of little teeth on it. It’s pretty big too so it covers more area. I’m just happy to see other people finding different methods.
Thank you for sharing this hack!!! Brilliant - a FORK!!! You saved me from buying another household item and from spending money!!! It was quite easy to do and rather meditative too! You made my day!! :)
Thank u so much for the hack it!, I am getting a room makeover and its so expensive to get a new carpet put in but this makes it look brand new thanks again!!!
Oh my! Just have to love you. Of course I have a fork. Just not the arms to tackle the long traffic path and foot rest area of my large and deep piled carpet. However, it got me thinking.... how about a fine toothed rake? I looked up "carpet rakes" on a lark... lo & behold! They exist. For now, the fork works but I will invest in one of those carpet rakes in the future. Thank you for your advice and the non-use of melting ice cubes into my carpet to raise the flattened pile. Not terribly bad in the heat of summer, only that it reminded me of those nasty foot baths one has to step into when entering a public swimming pool. Yuck! Mille grazie! M
God bless you for sharing. I'm going to buy some forks from the Goodwill. I think I'll get some plastic gloves and face masks from the dollar store. Then on a Saturday my whole family going get this done. I have alot of children and the foot traffic in my front room is epic. I was going to pay someone but with the savings more Christmas presents for my family. Thanks again.
I'm trying to clean my carpet for an inspection after not ever being inspected at my apartment in 6 years. the carpet is extremely matted down every where even after vacuuming and using a carpet shampoo machine for the last 3 days. I even scrubbed with a bristle brush nothing worked. and then this man had me get on my hands and knees and scrape the carpet with a fork and you know what? it freaking worked. well played mate never thought a simple fork would fix all my problems XD. I'm so glad my carpet looks basically new now.
Great tip! Also using the rubber end of a window wiper is okay. I always find once it gets walk on a few times it goes back down, be interesting to see if this way it last longer. Thanks
Sorry! My comment about the actress was regarding the commercial that came on first. It's been a long day and I got confused. Your video is very helpful!
Good tip, but a fork is only good for small areas like furniture imprints. For larger areas I would recommend some clean gardening tools like a hand cultivator, level rake or any other hard tined rake. Avoid using a rake for leaves as the tines are too flimsy. Cheers!
It's made a big difference to me and it's got me on the right path to get in these carpet fluffy again and cleaning the pile out so thanks for this much appreciated!!!
Wow, such a simple effective method, and This works great. Thanks for the tip. P.s, afterward, i used a hairbrush and brushed in circle motion, and then run over with a vaccuum. Carpet feels almost like new.
That's a great idea. But that looks like it would take 4ever with a fork. I have utility sweeper with hard bottles. I might give that a try bcuz it covers more width of room .
Oh working on a ferry is the last job I would do, for starters I suffer from motion sickness on boats and secondly when it's rough who cleans all the vomit in the toilets??!!
My carpet looks fantastic, been wanting to unflatten it for years now. Only issue is I’ve given myself a dust allergy and my chest is all tight now! 😭 I’m sure it will pass!
Thannks for thos tip! I want to do it, but does it eventually ruin the carpet? Because I want to fluffen up a carpet i'm selling but worried if I do it it would make it worse.
Good video thanks. I have the same issue with my lounge carpet. Doing the fork exercise, does that help bring the softness back, as mine is not just flattened but also feels harder so if not, do you have any tips for softening it too?
If your carpet is 'hard' then it sounds like it needs a wash, you should be able to hire a carpet cleaner for a reasonable price and it should take a few hours to do it.
@@TheYorkshireDigger Thanks very much for that info. Would that also be instead of doing the fork procedure which I had a go at today ta? I believe there are some hacks for cleaning your carpet using some household fluids and a squeegee?
I did this but with just the open nozzle of the Hoover, but goes flat again as soon as you walk over it, ill try this method though. My carpet was new but heavy traffic caused flatness within about a year wasn't cheap either.

Great tip but after doing all that I'd be slapping people for walking on my carpets 😂😂
LOL
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve spent the past 3 hours scraping my room with a fork and I’m only halfway done. It does look brand new though! Thanks for the tip!
Yeah it takes time but if you have the time it's rewarding
Can I ask is it fluffy
@@avakeary1773 it was very fluffy actually, but it unfortunately stayed that way for only a few weeks lol, I didn’t have the patience to do it again
im a kid and my parents hate me but atleast the carpet looks nice 💁♀️
Ha
I've never related to something more. 😔 But at least the carpet looks nice. 😛✌

Amazing! This totally worked on my long pile rug! Thank you! It was one area in front of the couch, about 1m by 1/2m and it looks like new now.
Fantastic news, if it helps just one person I am happy.

I admire your dedication. I will definitely be tackling this project tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Good luck Blessy
Did this where my doorway is in my bedroom then used the carpet cleaner on it after and it looks like new again!
Awesome Nathan, great to hear success stories.
This is absolutely incredible. Trying this on my new apartments carpet...the carpet was the only thing I had Against the place! Now it's perfect!!
HURRAH!!! Glad to be of service Allyssa
Wow, I'm impressed! Thank you for sharing. 😳
If only I had seen that before replacing my rug.... I confirm that it works ! And it's way worth your time and the hassle.
You're a damn hero, I was at my wit's end trying to spruce up my apartment
Hey, enjoy.
Thank you so much. I needed something simple with a tool I already had. Lol, never thought of a fork!!!
You are so welcome!

Try a dog grooming brush.

Best idea ever just tried and wow 😳 my carpet looks new again 🥰
Wonderful!
Thank you soo much I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are literally the best person ever man this worked soo well thank you soooooo much

You are a rock star, it works! Now if I can only get my husband to finish the job! 😁
Tell him I said he isn't a real man if he can't finish it.
The Yorkshire Digger Hahahaha, perfect, I will let him know Sir 😊
Amazing. Imagine someone cam up with a big metal carpet brush. Maybe pet metal hair brush would do...
Sorry! My comment about the actress was regarding the commercial that came on first. It's been a long day and I got confused. Your video is very helpful!
LOL no worries Jeff
Well thanks for the tip. Haven't seen any carpet rakes available locally, so will give this a whirl. Thanks again.
Noel Gribble apparently you can buy carpet rakes in the UK but they are £30, I am from Yorkshire so a free fork and some elbow grease does me fine.
Thanks Yorkshire .. I'm in Aussie, and my local Bunnings don't keep these rake things. Will give your fork idea a whirl. Thanks
Thanks mate had a burn in my carpet and did that and it kinda worked so thank you
I used a comb and it was faster! Try it
I used a old hairbrush and then a comb. I’m my mind it fluffs it and then the comb brings it up more.

Fork that!
A steel toothed dog brush is probably the best thing to use for matted down carpets.
Gorgeous Yorkshire accent! Great idea too.🤗❤️
Thank you! 😃
This was amazing. Worked great!
Glad it helped!

Fantastic!

Nice!
By the way, can I ask - how long does the carpet remain decent looking before you have to 'rake' it again? (given it is being walked on a bit)
We used a deck scrubber when I worked on the ferries a lot easier on the back lol GL&HH Simon
Oh working on a ferry is the last job I would do, for starters I suffer from motion sickness on boats and secondly when it's rough who cleans all the vomit in the toilets??!!
Thanks so much! This was a great help
Glad it helped!
My 2 bedroom carpets made Off recycled plastic bottles lol Gd vid robin m8
You may want to try using a hair brush. It’s a lot quicker for me
Yanis Yanis nice one I will try it
Doesn’t work for too long
a slicker brush (dog brush) works well too
This is genius ty bro now my carpet is amazing 😌
Glad I could help
Genius mate! Wife out of ammo.
Have the same problem then my carpet is 8 years old seen better days as well as an iron shaped mark where the hot iron tipped onto it melted the pile.
Great idea. Thank you
Seek and you shall find. Cool. Love it!
It works I just tried it. Thank you Sir!
Awesome Philly G
That would take all day, lol. Pick up the Grandi Groom carpet rake for $30. Much less tedious.
the video made me laugh but a big thanks for sharing i have just a small one in the living room so its fine for me.
If it made you laugh well that's good enough for me.
thank you so much sir!! I needed this
Hope it works out well for you.
@@TheYorkshireDigger it did! perfectly
You sir are a legend!
You are welcome.
You're forkin crazy if you think I'm forking my entire carpet 🤣
Get to fork man.
The good news is that this works, like really well
The bad news is my wife thinks I’m a crackhead
LOL
I’ve only had my carpet a year like this and some places where we walk and Hoover the most it’s gone so horrible flat and rough
My carpet looks fantastic, been wanting to unflatten it for years now. Only issue is I’ve given myself a dust allergy and my chest is all tight now! 😭 I’m sure it will pass!
Best tip if you suffer with dust is lots of open windows and maybe a 'filter' mask .
The Yorkshire Digger thanks! I didn’t realise I struggled with it before but definitely will be doing those things next time 😂 thanks for the tip!!
Getting ready to try it now.
Good luck
he looks that is having so much fun just to restore carpet , nothing else to do next two weeks just restoring the carpet with aaaaaaaaaaaaa fockk
Awesome!! Gonna try that! Truly is a handy tip! ;) cheeeeers
Awesome Nadia, feel free to check out my other videos and good luck.
Thank you. Very helpful
You're welcome!
Great tip mate.
Enjoy, hope it works as well for you as it did for me.
This definitely saved my deposit when I move out. Lol.
Awesome
Using a fork damages the fibres
Right. Im excited to try this now.
go for it
@@TheYorkshireDigger it was lovely. So fluffy. I might try an old hairbrush or something so it's faster maybe
Frickin' genius if you ask me. Thanks.
LOL, glad to be of service.
Thanks this is a good video.
Glad it was helpful!
It works!!! Amazing thanks 😊
No problem 😊
Cheers for the tip 👏👏
thank you yorkshire carpet wizard
You are very welcome
You are a forkin genius!
Forkin right I am! 😜
@@TheYorkshireDigger 😂😂😂
WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Glad it helped!
Thannks for thos tip! I want to do it, but does it eventually ruin the carpet? Because I want to fluffen up a carpet i'm selling but worried if I do it it would make it worse.
I would say it depends on the condition of your carpet, you could do a section and see how it turns out.
Worth a try , carpet is 5 years old and i dont wear shoes in the house .. Tks
It is worth a try, good luck.
You can also buy a carpet rake. It will probably be a lot faster
Carpet rakes are expensive, everybody got a fork!
top tip I shall try it out : )
let us know how you get on
Top tip mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Is this bad for the carpet in any way though. It gives it a temporary “good look”, but seems like raking it with a metal fork could do some damage?
I think you will find carpets are very 'hardy' and this doesn't cause any issues as far as I have experienced.
Good video thanks. I have the same issue with my lounge carpet. Doing the fork exercise, does that help bring the softness back, as mine is not just flattened but also feels harder so if not, do you have any tips for softening it too?

@@TheYorkshireDigger Thanks very much for that info. Would that also be instead of doing the fork procedure which I had a go at today ta? I believe there are some hacks for cleaning your carpet using some household fluids and a squeegee?
I would do the carpet wash first and see how it is after.
Excellent!!!
Thanks Mona.
Would a spring tine garden take work? Not sure if it would be too agresive
Good question that I am unable to answer. Try it and let us know.
A garden hard bristle brush would work the same way I think, Great Vid though.
Good idea Munkey
Another good way to get rid of the problem is to just cut those sections out. clears it right up.
That's a bit extreme but yes you could cut out the carpet, maybe cover the holes with rugs.
They make carpet rakes specifically for this task. No reason to be using a fork lol
There has to be a better way. Maybe a new pet brush? Those ones with the metal wire bristles? This isn’t feasible for homes with a lot of carpet.
I did this but with just the open nozzle of the Hoover, but goes flat again as soon as you walk over it, ill try this method though. My carpet was new but heavy traffic caused flatness within about a year wasn't cheap either.
If you can borrow a carpet cleaner that can sometimes help too.
On behalf of my wife she is really pleased with the result
You are very welcome
My room it pretty small so hopefully this works pretty well
It's worth a try Abby, good luck.
My room is massive!
Well.. See you in 2 hour!
Hey it's free the only cost to you is time, good luck.
The problem with this though is that you fray the carpeting and it will be permanently damaged.
Thank you
You're welcome
Like brand new. The wife being from Bradford likes a cheap fix. 😀
Nice one mate
Question does it work with rugs? Because I have only a rug in my bed room
Try it carefully
Brilliant 👏 thank you so sorry, Excellent
You’re welcome 😊
Use a skewer...stretch it out a bit.
My mrs can use this fork now for her tea😂😂
Oh that's evil
Ideal if you live in a doll's house.
I'm getting whiplash
Oh for folks sake, ! why didn't I think of this, thanks
LOL Gerry, enjoy.
Instructions not clear there is mustard in my dogs ears.
LOL
A good stiff hair brush works much faster.
