Hello, I installed this in my 2017 tacamo and when I go use the remote start as the vehicle is about to start the lights flash and a message comes up on the dash saying "Smart Entry & Start system check." Any ideas what might be causing this or how to fix it?
Are you sure you followed all the steps? It sounds like a step might have been missed.
FYI, The 2020 thru 2023 (I have a 2023) use a different harness that installs on the passenger side behind the passenger airbag. It's just as easy but not the same as yours. Here is the install on the 2020+. czcams.com/video/preGM3rw0bc/video.html I know this because I just installed mine today and it works exactly as depicted in this video...
What's the knob on the kick panel by your push start for?
That was a trailer brake setup!
Do you know if this work with a regular key started tacoma?

Looks like someone had a remote start installed on your vehicle previously, based on the wire tap connectors already installed.
Possibly, I also had a brake controller installed right there as well!
I already have electric start but will this bypass it cutting off once I open the door? Thanks
It will still cut off when opening the door. I am unsure of how to bypass that

If I install this kit, will I be able to remote start it from the Toyota App as well? Or just the FOB.
This just takes the sequence of 3 locks and turns on the truck. I do not believe the app would work unfortunately!

If you have the back doors open can you still remote start. Trying to put my kids in the car while car is still running in the back.

It uses the factory key fob so its the same distance as unlocking/locking your doors!
Well this work with key fob 2017 sr5 Toyota Tacoma
I believe it will, as long as you have the push button start. Can’t speak for the normal key, start X may have that info on their site though!
Did you disconnect your truck battery before this or is it safe to do while still connected?
I did mine with everything connected!
