  • Made famous as a backdrop by director John Ford in a series of films like "Stagecoach," "The Searchers" and "Fort Apache," the Navajo lands of Monument Valley National Monument, which borders the Arizona-Utah border, is a magical place held holy by the Navajo Nation. Tourists may drive through a section of the valley, but to truly see it, you must do it by horseback in order to get into the far-reaching canyons and valleys within the confines of the national monument that few but the Navajos ever see. Come with us on this great adventure through a landscape of huge rock formations, weathered rock totem poles, huge sand dunes, rocky trails, historical Indian remains, and huge vistas as a group of people led by Effie Yazzie, ride their privately owned horses across this huge expanse that is one of natures great marvels..........

    That was amazing. I was just there only a few weeks ago and it changed my life. Their is a special spiritual energy within those lands. It's just too hard to explain the energy.
    All I can say is that the spirit of the Creator lives there.

      @traviatablues  Před 6 lety

      Hi, I'm the one that shot the video. I was just one of the riders on this ride and was not part of a touring company. There are different ways to ride Monument Valley. In our case, we brought in our own horses and stayed in the valley in our own campers and living compartment horse trailers. Many different people handle rides in Monument Valley, and I'm sure with some googling you can find them and tailor your ride to whatever you want, so I think you can stop to photograph or video. This video was of 5 rides with all the same riders as we were there for 6 nights and 5 days of riding. Good luck, it's a fantastic place. With a horse, you can get into many places the public never goes.

    this was beautiful. Are you required to pick up your poop and carry it in a bag like dog owners? My guess is that the people that hold their reins in one hand would have to carry it for the people that hold their reins in two hands. 🙂

      We did this ride with Monument Valley Trail Rides, run by a gentleman named Don Vinson. You must supply and transport your own horse. There are other outfitters that can supply horses for multi-day rides, or you can ride for a few hours while in Monument Valley with several of the Navajo outfits. Have fun.

    The Prescott area has loads of cattle ranches, but I'm not aware of horse ranches, though I'm sure there are some. I'm guessing you're talking about rental stables, of which I don't know of any, nor any in the Sedona area, which seems to be intent on phasing horses out of the area, unfortunately.

    I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but the horses in the video are all privately owned and were hauled to Monument Valley by their owners. The Navajos do have horses at the Valley and take tourists for rides, though you will not get into most of the areas you see in the video as they are too far to get to from where the rental horses are stationed.
