  • Did you ever wonder what is the logic behind exaltation, debilitation and mulatrikona degrees of the planets in Vedic Astrology? This question appeared during our Navagrahas course and I thought to make a little video about it. Here is one way to look at that.

This is an absolutely brilliant video. So divine and deep rooted. The triangle concept of Mool Trikona was surreal. Fantastic work, keep up the great work ☺👍.
I have a couple of questions:
    1) Any reason why Rahu-Ketu was not considered here? Also would like to know from you which sign do you consider as Moola Trikona for Rahu/Ketu. Do you take Gemini/Sagittarius or Virgo/Pisces?
    2) Do you use Yuktheshwar ayanamsa or Lahiri ayanamsa.? Asking mainly because you seem to follow a lot of Yuktheswarji's teachings.
    Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your kind words, Rajiv ji. We don't consider Rahu/Ketu here because of two reasons:
      - they are not actual planets, so you can't measure any tilt here
      - even Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra doesn't give mulatrikona, exaltation neither debilitation placements for the nodes, so it stays as controversial topic and might be different in different lineages
I personally take Gemini/Sagittarius for their exaltation and debilitation placements and I use Lahiri ayanamsha (due to many reasons).

No No! They both are छायाग्रहौ & BPHS mentions the exaltation & debilitation of राहुकेतू both राहुः (rāhuḥ) & केतुः (ketuḥ) in the chapter named as दशाफलाध्यायः (daśāphalādhyāyaḥ)
Here's the verse along with the literal translation by me:
      राहोस्तु वृषभङ्केतोर्वृश्चिकन्तुङ्गसञ्ज्ञकम्।
      मूलत्रिकोणकञ्ज्ञेयं युग्मञ्चापङ्क्रमेण च॥ ३५॥
Of rāhuḥ in vṛṣabhaḥ, Of ketuḥ in vṛścikaḥ, considered tuṅgaḥ (Summit/Exaltation), know the mūlatrikoṇaka rāśyau of 2 grahau be the yugmaḥ (mithunaḥ/Gemini) & cāpaḥ (dhanuḥ/Sagittarius) of राहुः (rāhuḥ) & केतुः (ketuḥ) respectively.
      sa.wikisource.org/wiki/बृहत्पाराशरहोराशास्त्रम्/अध्यायः_४७_(दशाफलाद्यायः)
However, Ācāryaḥ paṇḍita sañjaya rathaḥ considers vṛṣabhaḥ for rāhuḥ, vṛścikaḥ for ketuḥ as exaltation related to Ayuḥ & just as the way you consider he also considers exaltation for rāhuḥ & ketuḥ as mithunaḥ & dhanuḥ respectively. But we'll have to verify if it has got any Ārṣa pramāṇam (pramāṇam from sages) or not. Only then it's acceptable to me.
P.S.: The tilt considerations of saptavāsara grahāḥ (सप्तवासरग्रहाः) is extremely interesting, could you please tell me the source of this info?
Thank you so much, in anticipation.
P.P.S.: Śani's exaltation degree, debilitation degree & the tip of its mūlatrikoṇa rāśiḥ, these 3 vertices doesn't form an equilateral triangle. its exaltation vertex is in tulārāśiḥ, its debilitated vertex is in meṣarāśiḥ & its vertex of the mulatrikoṇa rāśiḥ is in kumbha-rāśiḥ
Frankly speaking there's only 1 equilateral triangle possible for the 3 vertices in those 3 aforesaid rāśayaḥ (tulā, meṣaḥ & kumbhaḥ) but they don't either constitute the exaltation degree or debilitation degree. However one vertex can definitely be chosen as anywhere in the mūlatrikoṇa rāśiḥ, so the only equilateral triangle in this case is when a vertex is at 30° tulā, 2nd vertex is at 30° meṣaḥ & 3rd vertex is at 0° kumbhaḥ, in all the other cases equilateral triangle is IMPOSSIBLE! The equal equal that you were trying to say for Śaniḥ isn't correct.

Love this video. Also what if a dagha rashi lord is placed in another dagha rashi? Example dagha rashis gemni and virgo, Mecury placed in gemni
