  • Join me now as I dive into the depths of a maybe abandoned, maybe not type situation. We've got deer, we've got homeless, we've got trucks, we've got buildings, even a few bricks; what else do you even need.

Kevin, that building was one of 4 that housed Bausch and Lomb. At the base of the road behind the building was the B&L glass plant along with natural gas storage tanks for R.G.& E.
Nice there's plans to utilize the land for a park in the future. Amazing that in the midst of the city there's deer thriving.

Yeah I'm really pumped for the new park! And yeah I think I learned it was B&L after I made the vid, glad I didn't walk too far over there, apparently there's some hidden holes. The city actually has a lot of random wildlife. I've been hissed at a few times by opossums in center city.

The first ruin was, I believe, a cold storage building that burned down sometime in the 1980’s? The large building in the first scene was the original Bausch & Lomb factory. I’ve worked for Hickey Freeman (just north of where you are in the beginning of your video)for the last 40+ years. It will soon be converted to low income apartments. Another piece of Rochester’s history gone forever.

So I work @ 691 main. The building in the background. The reataing wall with 3 layers, on the the other side was a B&L building. It was demolished and turned into a covered parking lot. Then B&L ceased operations @ the location. The covered parking lot collapsed and the area was filled in. It's now an uncovered parking lot. I also know for a FACT there are tunnels. B&L used them to move material from building to building. It's funny how such few info is available about that site!

Hi! I won't get into how I know all this, but I can verify that RG&E lab isn't abandoned. It is occupied although not by a ton of people and maybe not everyday. In my 8 years routinely visiting the property I've never seen the gate open like that, so I imagine it was busted at that time. The property you were on with the camp - that is owned by B&L. They used to have facilities there, but demo'd everything a long time ago. That's why you saw old items you would find in a lab. There are areas throughout where the slab foundation left behind has holes so you have to watch your step! :)
