    I've seen your videos on how you do your water changes with a water pump attached to 1" hose , and I always think your system could be improved and would save you so much time.
    In my set up I have a water supply attached to 1" pvc pipe that goes around the perimeter of my fish room.
    At every tank I install a "T" with a ball valve and run it up to the tank and attatch a 1" hose barb at the end.
    And then this way you can fill each tank up on the same system.
    Then you rake your water pump and attatch your 1" hose to it but only cut it long enough to reach the pvc system, so like 2 ft.
    Then you can use the ball valve to direct the water to where your drain is set up.
    I would love to see this system Implemented in your fish room man! I'm no plumber but it was a simple job that saves so much time and effort

I also take out decor that in the way and put it in a baucket of tank water till im ready to put water back into the tank and add all decor back.

    Kev,
    Wow an awesome awesome video brother. I use a hygger 450gph pump for my 98 gal CA tank. It pumps the water out pretty fast than I reverse and fill up my tub and pump the new water back in at roughly the same temp. It sometimes it’s warmer than normal. But it cools down pretty fast. I never have to clean my gravel I have a red devil that rearrange all my substrate all the time and I have some catfish that eat stuff out the bottom. I also don’t do filter maintenance on water change day. I have two Tidal 110s and an internal expertmatic that is designed for 180 gal. So I don’t clean all of them at once I leave the internal filter and clean the hobs or vice versa. I also have one big sponge filter that I never clean lol I want it for the bacteria and air. I also can’t keep live plants because of my red devil and my two Severums will eat plants also. So yeah water changes it is. My planted 55 gal I never have to water change just top off. Same with my 20 long. Appreciate the video and can’t wait to see the final video. It will always be epic. ❤😂

  • @howardhudson5475
    @howardhudson5475 Před 4 měsíci

    I Kev, First let me just say that I love the tanks you have in this video. My wife is throwing a fit when I say I want to get a 125. lol I do have a question for you or wonder if you have run into this issue before. Over the last month and a half I have been trying to get a 55 gallon up and running. My primary worry had been with ammonia because the water here where I live has ammonia in the tap water and the Ph is about mid range. The problem I kept running into was not so much the ammonia killing my fish but something leaching out the Ph making the water very alkalai. I have been in the hobby of fish keeping since the mid 90's but this has me boggled. Any idea what can remove the Ph out of a tank other than ph down or something similar to it?

    I have a water pump, but I don’t just use it to remove water. Sometimes I put the hose through a filtration sock and just let it run for about 15 minutes. This way, the water stays in the tank but it’s getting clean because the pump acts as vacuum cleaner.

  • @lorisheheen2198
    @lorisheheen2198 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Kev I enjoyed this so much! Watching you vacuum your tank made me wonder....you have so many fish. Did you ever have one get accidentally sucked in the siphon? When I first started learning how to vacuum, one of my fish dashed in the way and got sucked in the siphon for about a second! Talk about a panic attack! 🤣 Thankfully he was okay. Now..I am always on the lookout and more cautious, plus they are so much bigger now and probably wouldn't fit. Thank you for taking the time going through the basics for beginner's. I think these tips are the most important for beginner's to have and enjoy a successful tank and healthy environment for our fish. ❤❤❤😊

      Dont just cut it off. Close the inlet valve first, then power off. Start it up again in reverse...open valve first, then power on.

    How do you remove calcium buildup from the trim etc?

      Simple answer is just scrub it away. You cold try using some vinegar but the calcium build up a normal occurrence.

    Im currently going through a bacterial bloom. How long should I do nothing and can I add water because it is getting low? It has already been over a week and it hasn't gotten any better but worse. I have a 5 gallon that houses a Betta fish. I use Spring water. After this bloom clears up, how often do I need to change water and how much. I was doing weekly and 50% . My API test ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 5.0 I put prime in yesterday 5ml

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Před 8 měsíci

      Thats a lot of prime for a 5 gallon tank! 5ml dose is for 50G. You added 10x the dose. You should water change now to remove some of it or it can deplete your water of all its oxygen.
      Water changes are done depending on many factors, nitrate levels being one of them. But to begin I would confirm your tank has cycled before doing regular scheduled water changes. That may be why your bloom hasnt gone away.

    Is it normal for the bacterial bloom to get worse? In two more days, it will be two weeks for this bloom. It hasn't gotten any better but only worse. How long should I waited out? My water level is getting low, can I add water or is that going to prolong the bloom

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Před 7 měsíci

      No need to add water, it will add more dissolved organics tot he water and feed the bloom causing bacteria. Make sure you have a good amount of surface agitation as the beneficial bacteria need oxygen. Also check your PH levels. Being closer to Neutral is better (7.0)

      You should be able to. Be sure to test your source water for its parameters prior too and use a water conditioner such as prime to detoxify chlorinated. If rhe source water contains anything thar could be deemed harmful to your fish. Treat as needed. Or don't use.

    I'm confused on the dosage of the Malawi Buffer and Cichlid Lake Salt. My tap water is already at 8.0 pH, so what is the dosage to just maintain it? Also the Cichlid Lake Salt directions on the bottle is based on DI or RO water, so is there a different dosage for tap water. I understand you would only add salt based on the volume of water removed, not tank size. I was trying to correlate how much you used in the video but you didn't say how much Cichlid Trace you put it, plus I don't know what your tap water pH is where you are located. I see the benefit of a buffer since I also use Black Diamond Blasting sand and the minerals in the Salt and Trace but just don't know best dosage.

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Před 8 měsíci

      Since your PH is already at 8.0 you dont need to add any buffer. The cichlid salt will increase your GH (hardness) but your source may already be pretty hard as well. Test your GH. You may only get a benefit from cichlid trace which adds minerals not found in all tap water. Dose Trace for the entire volume of tank water.

    You would think people could look at a pond or river and make the connection that fish dont live in sterile environments but that isn’t the case. The fastest way to make your fish die is to clean the tank like a human lives in it. I have a 90 gallon tank with 50 yellow lab cichlids in it that I NEVER gravel vac and only clean the algae off the front and sides of the tank . The water is crystal clear and the fish thrive. I was recently gone for 9 days and the feeder cycles two times a day 12 hours apart. I came back and the tank looked like it did if i was there for 9 days and never touched it. I did a 50% water change and cleaned the algae of the front and sides and that was it . Nitrates about 10 ppm. The best thing you can do for your tank is LEAVE IT THE FK ALONE. I also use RO water that is mixed to a certain tds level and heated for my water changes. I clean my filters once or twice a year as well. My fish naturally reproduce and thrive. I dont have issues with disease or sickness either.
