Kyoto is a really nice looking map for siege battles. And the cavalry just wrecking everything and causing mass routs towards the middle was really satisfying. And that stand at the citadel before the enemy retreated was really fun to watch.
I've always wondered how you never seemed to get these kinds of issues with unresponsive units in siege defense battles. I have them in EVERY siege defense when against more than 1 enemy army. I think you were exactly right with it being a lag in response time due to the amount of units in the battle.
This is something even in TWW3. When your fps is lower, units take longer to respond. Especially in Cathay maps.
I lost a siege in FoTS because my line infantry just refusded to go man the walls while my yari kachi were holding off a good few units of shogiti, general was there to stop them from breaking too fast so i think they could have pulled it off if they just hopped on the walls
Same thing for me, the game is really good but the lag in siege is so fucking annoying @@tylermitchell185
@@kansax8253 And the more units on the map, the lower the FPS.
That is actually pretty cool since large armies logically should be harder to coordinate.
This is common, I recommend lowering the settings a bit. I see stuff like this in Warhammer as well.
The unresponsiveness issue is an obnoxious bug that happens in some larger sieges. I find giving a unit orders on a different level of the fort from where it is/outside the fort while inside will sometimes snap the unit out of it.
It kills me lol. Alt+f4d out of so many sieges over the years because of this. My favorite sieges we're definitelly in atilla total war because I've rarely ever experienced those bugs.
@@Weberkooks It's a real killer since the bug is at its worst PRECISELY in big sieges that are often sweaty and difficult to begin with.
@@Weberkooks I'm scared to play Atilla again after getting shit on by turn 16
@@zxphiz atilla's setting is the best in total war. But sadly, the game is designed to shit on the player. Very bad... Atilla isn't the best total war basically because of antiplayer bias. However... you can get a few mods that remove cheats for the A.i. no more extra cash for them, no more free public order. Ai could have the same restrictions as the player. Try modding. You could find yourself loving an actually fair version of Atilla.
@@kennaneanderson8137I actually dislike Attlia for the tedious managment system. They wanted a politics system, but it's mostly just busy work with no payoff.
Being someone who only plays TTWH3, it’s really refreshing to see Shogun 2 and how quick the battles and fights are between units. Really cool.
You should give it a try. Top 3 historical total war, no doubt.
There are mod for tww3, which implies attack speed of units, making their fight dramatically faster. That, and the mods for brutal fatigue penalties make tww3 some kind of historical in tactical part of the game ;3
I remember when my dumbass thought stand and fight was a dismount button
Hey, I sent this one in. I actually won it with heavy casualties. I was having mostly issues with the pathfinding like you did, and I'm not familiar with where to expect spawns.
Thank Christ for the historical content, keep it up, Legend!
Loving the frequent content legend, especially the historical titles. That being said, I've also been enjoying your no defeats high elves streams a lot!
Oh yeah, a classic Shogun 2 throw-down. :D
Man I love the shogun 2 content. This inspired me to redownload the game.
Also, a little tip: When 2 of your cavs charges his cav, you can see which unit is the target. Run it away, and slam into his side with the other unit. This removes his charge bonus and gives you a better fight
Bots already here lmao

The reason your soldiers won't listen is because you need more gym badges. Your leaders must not be ready for these high level pokemon
for better runing down of enemy you can just put a unit in frot of them, sometimes they will move but in most cases they just run and get killed by your man standing, super useful if enemy buchs up and just b-line to the edge of map
i mean when he says "most of those probably came when they ran away" thats historically acurate, most casualties in ancient battles happened when one side routed
I actually like base Shogun 2 Naval battles. Auto resolve just annihilates your fleets for no reason, even if it’s up against a damaged bow Kaboya you could still lose Medium Bunes. The battles themselves are pretty decent except for the fact that the AI just shuts itself sometimes and, after fighting for five seconds, panics and sends all its ships to random edges of the map
I got a better understanding of them in this particular playthrough, basically bulwark with Bunes and set up Koboya's to get nasty fire arrow shots. Sengoku Bune's are kinda disappointing though if I'm honest, boarding in janky and there seems to be some kinda bug at times where the boarded ship will randomly die, killing all your marines that were on it.
@@Insandom I mostly just run them like ships of the line. In front I have Bunes, then behind have Bow Kaboyas and Fire Bomb Kaboyas. The Bunes are huge and wooden, the crew can hide inside the ship so it can soak up the enemy fire, allowing the Kaboyas to get better shots off, especially for the Fire Bomb Kaboyas to get in close and basically annihilate the enemy ships.
@@TheDirtysouthfan That's what I said I do, lol. Bunes in front to tank and focus fire, koboyas firing fire arrows with impunity.
I don’t enjoy the way the play, but I am starting to learn to do it cause of exactly this reason, I have lost so many ships that I shouldn’t have just because of auto resolve
@@Dayman420 Keep your fleets in formation, keeping overlapping fields of fire and your Bune's in front. The AI is also easy to spoof if there's a terrain piece on the map, as they're prone to single filing around it. Always try to have two ships shooting one, and remember that height matters quite a bit when it comes to trading arrow fire.
Damn I've been playing this game for 10 years and that's the first time I have seen archers spread thin on the walls
Currently feel like im in the process of dying of pneumonia. Thanks for the distraction lol
You are a true Legend!!
At 14:27 that cavalcry unit was probably having a heart attack.
Well, launching a raid on the enemy commander outside the castle seems to be how Japanese defenders fought on sieges at times.
Of all the commanders who fought at Osaka for the Tokugawa side, the only casualty they faced was from the castle defenders launching a raid on their camp in a night raid.
The pathfinding issues gave me ptsd. Can't tell you how many times I've alt+f4'd out of a battle because of that crap.
It’s the John wick of total war 💀💀💀
That cav did some serious lifting
Great guard has the second wind ability!
The pathfinding issues always occur in sieges as soon as too many troops are climbing the walls similtaniously. That's why it usually happens more often on larger castles. Almost seems like the game cannot pull together enough resources to support the individual soldiers. Very weird, also haven't found a solution to that issue yet..
Little did Legend know, the real disaster battle is the naval one
NGL Shogun 2 actually looks really fun, i might have to buy it at some point. Damn LOTW you really are the biggest salesman for total war games, yet CA treats you like shit, fkn sucks, can't imagine how annoying that's been for you over the years, probs over it by now tho. keep it up m8!

@@rightfeelI stop what?
@@P4GYY don't buy it it's so fun you'll get addicted and you'll end up on the streets like every other shogun 2 addicts
Shogun 2 never took for me if every faction was more different and had no realm divide would have been more interesting, if anything CA should have added chinese and korean factions and expanded the map to fit part of those nations.
@@sandrothenecromancer6810 Korea could have been an "optional" part of the map like the Americas in Medieval 2, with a mechanic for Joseon to spawn a Ming doomstack and the limitation for the "continental forces" to not be able to invade Japan back.
Or just an expansion instead of Rise of the Samurai
pathfinding breaks in sieges because when a unit has troops outside , first layer and tries to climb second layer of castle idk why tho fucks whole battle up
I always hated how the AI just zergs their units when on the offense in sieges, really annoying when you have loads of layers and theres still some men in a unit outside while some are climbing the last layer
K so "Stand and fight" grants +4 melee attack to infantry from general skill, as well as +2 attack to all units within generals area of influence, which is doubled in size when the ability is active. So its basically like golden attack upgrade. This is why you should always go for armor upgrade on all your melee units.
I think +2 armor +4 attack is optimal.
Reason is, armor has diminishing returns. 4 armor is already enough to cut bow ashigaru damage roughly in half, and samurai slighly less so. Bow monks punch through 4 armor, but they're super rare in AI stacks. Going all attack is even worse, you will regret it when having to suck up arrow fire, which happens in sieges especially often.
Going all armor means you mush have Stand and die, which isn't guaranteed, especially if a ninja comes out of nowhere and your daimyo is suddenly gone.
@@ggleplussuxx4787 All armor is best. You can get attack and defense from experience, tech and general skills. Also lots of units already have plentiful attack bonus against units they counter. Attack and defense do nothing while your units are getting shot while armor is always useful.
The most important thing in Shogun 2 battles is morale. Armor doesn't influence morale, higher melee attack does. Have Yari Ashigaru with the +6 attack of the building plus stand and fight walk into the enemy lines and they will kill 100+ in seconds. This improves their morale, and shatters the morale of the enemy. Which is what you want. Break the enemy and you win. The faster your guys can kill shit the better. Killing the enemy army quickly also reduces the amount of casualties on your side which kinda negates the effect of going for armor upgrades.
I don't think you should, getting diminishing returns on melee attack if quite hard, especially if the enemy brings better units. Melee attack is the most important stat in Shogun 2, armour is an okay stat, and honestly seems mostly useful for people who don't know how to use forests to counter-act enemy missile units.
That pathfindin' bug is really damn annoyin'. Happens in both Shogun 2 an' FOTS.

The ashigaru will not listen when they are in a controll group sometimes.

Jesus this series has sunk
There's an issue with unit formations when there are a lot of units trying to scale walls. You usually don't get it if you have a powerful cpu.
Those Bow Samurais have high exp they can start slashing with "Stand and Fight" full rank..
sweet vids legendoftotalbro
Late stage campagin is fun for me as Gun enjoyer in shogun 2 because i can sit on my castle and let my gun unit farm lol
i find the unresponsive bug happens more when units are in a control group, they seem to dislike being given individual orders.
Also have issues with movement during siege defence, half of the unit gets to position the other half is just standing
How much experience you have.... If i got same scenario in hard difficulty i will be dead in no time👍👍
Hey legend I know you don't really like playing with mods. But the new araby mod for Warhammer is so great in quality and currently popular that maybe it's worth a stream? The mechanics and unit variations/models are CA quality in my opinion :)
The pathfinding on particularly the Kyoto map is often really bad. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but obviously it's because it's a unique map that doesn't follow normal rules. I've had all sorts of issues on that map, though usually it's as the attacker, since I mostly play the Kyoto map last thing in my campaign.
More like Sit and Fight QwQ huehuehuehue.
I have experienced similar pathfinding issues, but that was in HUGE battles. Idk, I have always throught that Shogun 2 was pretty bug free, but it seems only in small to medium battles. Really unfortunate, I wonder if any mods can fix it? There was darth mod for increased unit size, so I wonder if any modders managed to fix it. Regardless, even with these issues I still very much enjoy Shogun 2, I still think the unit animations for kills is the best in the series (though I have no idea how it is in rome 2). Much better than the warhammer games in any case
❤
kyoto looks like some village yo
Onna Bushi
Legendary Christian WRE when?
The lag happens because the game has too many orders to get through. It also affects enemy units.
I honestly think the pathfinding issues are cause when many armys are attacking . It almost seems like the I starts dropping fraame rate while the game is running fine. Its weird.
the naval battles in these campaigns are what ruin it for me lmao, anyone know if it's possible to disable?
after my 5 star ninja sabotage farm i siege kyoto with yari ashihigaru while my real army reinforce
the ai will automatic attack my 1 yari ashihagaru that siege kyoto it force their army out of kyoto more easy like that
if this real player vs player kyoto is impossible to capture if not cheat or out number 5 times
Where is “campaign” title? Changed it because it’s confusing. Thx mate

Three kingdoms Records mode campaign please
I don’t like my own comments 😮
Aren't you glad you don't have to clean up after that fight?
On one hand I'd like to see some "saving your disaster end turn" where you fully play out the disaster battle that is the attention of the save but also play every single battle in the end turn even those hopeless giant stack vs tiny garrison fights with the objective of winning as much as possible or inflicting damage in the truly hopeless ones. Or even if the next battle is "well, that needs to be fought manually but not a disaster" On the other hand, naval battles in the game can be tedious. So i can kind of see why you'd want to send the save back at this point.
Nani
Man S2 pathfinding is pretty crappy in settlement battles.
Legenatolwarheyah
Uhh, Shogun? 😍
5th nevermind
This video highlights why it's my 2nd least favourite total war game I've played but I've only played half of them I find the more responsive the units are the more I like the total war game its one of the reasons why one of my favourite total war games is empire the units listen more than most of the total war franchise the only time they don't listen the most is when defending forts that's the only time I have ever encountered that where as with shogun 2 they seem to only listen about 50% of the time
The units aren't responding because you have unit scale on huge and your PC isn't running Shogun 2 well because of your graphics settings. Easily solvable problem. Also empire is the buggiest total war game of all time so what the fuck are you on about lmao
@@ikezor9217 I've heard that empire has lots of bugs but I don't run into any that effect my fun shogun 2 on the other hand is the 2nd worst of the total war games I've played the only ones I haven't tried are shogun and medieval 1, fall of the samurai (don't know if this one counts) , troy, three kingdoms, attila and pharaoh Rome 2 is the worst the best warhammer 2 but only because of mods the best without mods probably rome 1
Empire is definitely in the top 5 best total war titles and has one of the best unit responsiveness which is one reason its better than shogun 2 empire may have other short comings but unit responsiveness is not one of them
@@marktynan6045wtf you talking bro
Attila has by far the most responsive units control and empire is total opposite. You tried to tell unit to walk a staircase up the wall in siege in empire? Those guys like literally freeze in place lol. Not to mention unit refuse to shoot after sustained casualties, because dudes shuffling the line lol
@@lesnoyelf228 if you read my comments you'd read that is one of the games I have not played
And I mentioned defending forts is the only time I have seen unresponsiveness and as that happens very little unless you are too passive it's not alot
I dont think that shogun 2 overall is unresponsive. It is a bug for when the battles get a bit larger. It is still a very annoying issue and very unfortunate, but I think it is also mostly a problem for sieges. I would say for the majority of battles it is fine, and the responsiveness is fine in those battles. Shogun 2 is one of my favourites, I just think the music is great, and it has some of the best death/ kill animations in all of total war series. (Though I think it is pretty good in empire too, but I dont really remember). I liked empire as well, but I dont think it is as good as shogun 2. If you think empire is more responsive than shogun 2, I have no idea what you are referring to unless you are specifically talking about the bug.
back to TWW3 please, this content is BS
