Very informative video, thanks. J. I enjoy your enthusiasm on sharing the knowledge.
Thanks for watching Jamie!! I hope you're well 😊
Very well done Matt, I appreciate you taking the time to share this information with the community in a clear way using real examples, especially the info on chop marks😃🙏👋👌👍
Thanks so much Peter, I am very glad to hear you enjoyed the video! 😊
Thanks for another informative video legend
Thanks for the info, it's always good to learn.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Interesting contents, thanks for the explanation.
Thanks so much for watching :)
Thanks mate. That was a lot of information. I bet I'll have to revisit this video again to remind myself of all these terms
Thanks for watching Stephen! Coin collecting in general can often be a bombardment of information but I hope to present information in a manner that is accessible and hope you revisit many times so CZcams knows we are on the right track with coin collecting content 😂
thank you, thank you Matt. I have a few pennies I must take a look at. Well explained to a newbie coin person
Thanks for watching Steven! All the best with your penny collection too 😊
Awesome vid Matt ...thanks .. I love chop mark coins
Thanks for watching William! The chop marks are fascinating, it feels almost like the coin gets turned into a passport in a sense.
@@ThompsonsCoins it makes the history of the coins real for sure ... I collect alot of old coins and always wish they could talk
Great informative video Matt. Thanks for doing the research and editing. Dun know much about chop-marks so appreciate the share. Cheers and keep on collecting 😊👍🏻
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!! :)
This has been THE BEST video and explaination of these terms I've seen!
I've been asking longtime collectors to define these terms to me ever since I started noodling... because lingo is confusing and I have a desire to know clear answers.
And the answers I've received from others have been vague, wrong, half-way there or I've just been brushed off and told to look it up myself 😏
Thanks Matt. Keep these vids coming! Love ya work.
Thanks so much Sym I am very happy to have been able to clarify those terms and really appreciate the kind words, you've made my day! 🥳
@@ThompsonsCoins would like to know what year did Perth mint stop using the dot. Kind regards
@@lotsoffun-jb1es they used the dot right up to 1964 which was the final year of Penny production :)
Another great and informative video mate I never heard of 2 of those before so thank you. As for a privy mark I’d go for a Scotsman in a kilt on my coin as homage to my ancestors.
Thanks for watching! That's a great idea for a privy mark too! :)
Thank you Matt for that info and I was thinking of buying a privy mark coin from you very soon keep up the info Matt loved it and for a mint mark the red back spider keep it Australian until your next video stay safe. 💰👍
Thanks for watching Michael! A redback privy is a great idea! I know the mint has produced redback coins in the past but I don't think I've ever seen it as a privy.
you had me chasing my 2015 Lest we Forget coin for Privy marks-no luck
Thanks for watching Graeme! Better luck next time 😄
Your videos are getting better and better. The use of "show the coin" photos (including zooming into the pertinent detail) and videos really complement your commentary. One thing which would further improve your videos is providing links to the other videos you reference ("I have done a video on Spanish Reales"), so that interested viewers can follow that reference; these links could be in the description box or, better yet, appear as contextual hyperlinks within the videos. That's just a small suggestion, and not to take away from the quality of this video-I have watched it twice.
Thanks so much for the support! These videos take a lot of time and energy to make so it's really great to hear the effort is paying off :)
That is a great idea and I have added both to the video now! I must confess I had no idea how to add the link into the actual video but after some digging I've figured it out and I appreciate the very wise suggestions!
@@ThompsonsCoins , thanks for adding the link in the description, and well done for figuring out how to add the in-video link. I followed the link to watch the video on the counterstamped 8 reales, and it too was a fascinating video. I've said it before: I really like the variety of content in your videos.
Pj capers loves the envelope or post office Mark another highly collectible coin thanks theme coming ❤
Heck of a video my friend... I LOVE my privy coins!! Favorite I have currently may be my rooster privy koala. If I had to privy a dollar coin, I would have to probably privy the 12 year American lunars that I did a video over. If it were an Australian dollar coin, I think I would try to do a notable vessel of the past or cave painting figures.
Thanks for stopping by! Your lunar idea would make for a great privy series although I still think they need to be produced as a standalone series based on how thoughtful each of your selections were :) I love the cave painting idea too!
@@ThompsonsCoins Love it! Reef fish would be a cool option as well.
Remember the Royal Mint use to go to the Royal Easter Show and the Ekka in Brisbane. They’d take a machine with which you could mint your own coin. Theses would have either an “S” for Sydney or “B” for Brisbane.
My privy would be my face. Scaring children since ‘63.
I remember going to the Royal Melbourne show and doing the mobile press dollars, it felt very satisfying to operate a mini press!
Hahaha love the privy idea 😂
Helpful info. I’ve always seen “privy marks” as a way for the mint to get more money out of collectors. To me, they are mostly meaningless.
I think that's a fair point and there's definitely a few items that raise my eyebrows that come out of the mint. But as collectors we also have the benefit of sticking to the things that bring us enjoyment. Thanks for watching! :)
Hi Matt
Another good video, but hey I would have liked a bit more of a description on the
RAM mobile press hand stamped counterstruck coins,
they have always gone for a bit of a premium dollars as indicated in the latest RENNIKS cattledog PP's108-109.
They make a great collection, some are extremely hard to come by others not so much
Keep up the good work
Cheers
Rob
Thanks for watching Rob!
Next time I am at a mobile press event I'll make sure I do some filming and get a little more in depth with an explanation for sure! 😊
as always Matt...a wealth of information! great vid mate, look forward to the next one!!
When is ANDA in Perth? have you locked it in yet?
You're too kind! Thanks for always checking out these videos!
Perth ANDA is locked and loaded for Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of July, I hope to see you there!
Hey Matt, just received the 5 ounce silver tiger from you, great packaging, thanks! J. Also, I have a question, what does “type set” mean?
That's great to hear Jamie! ☺️ Type set in the context of something like a sovereign would generally refer to having one of each obverse variety. It's quite a popular method of collecting particularly if you want to steer clear of the major rarities when putting together a complete set of every date.
Hello again often watch but never comment,
Thanks for watching Peter! 😊😊
Matt, do you have baby sets in stock just waiting for the official release date, which if I’m correct is Thursday coming?
They just went up this morning and are available now :)
@@ThompsonsCoins I grabbed 4 to start and a proof set. Looks to me like re-sellers have grabbed all the silver COTD proofs 🫤
