bro lunch time in school was always embarrassing especially on field trips when all the kids came with subway and I was lucky to have a bag of chips and a juice.

I personally never cared about having an amazing looking meal. My mom made food for me and I was happy enough about that. Plus I didn't like my classmates so I always took their opinions as out of hate.

As a lunch lady at an elementary school, we never deny a child a lunch unless they already had one. You bring a lunch from home but are still hungry? Come through the line and we will take care of you!
Not going to lie I used to have pb and j sandwiches but it was so sour for some reason I refused to eat it and be hungry during school I always told my mom I didn’t like the but my dad made my lunch

In my elementary and middle school, if you didn't have lunch and you didn't have money to buy the lunch there, they'd give you a chicken sandwich for free. not the most luxurious, but the notion is what counts

This triggered some memories, i was one of those kids who had hot lunch brought to me every afternoon up to finishing highschool. Real privileged like having a whole rice and soup spread but it always made me like slower in eating until i got wise in highschool and stopped planning things during lunch hour

Back in my elementary school, i hated how overpriced the bufe was, and so i bought the candy at some cheap chinese store, and started undercutting the prices of the bufe, it got popular to the point that when a teacher caught me, some would genuinly pay and take a snickers bar or something, this went on for about two three months, but then the boss of the bufe found out, and i got suspended (but i made like 200 bucks, so who really won at the end)

When I was a kid, most of the time my mom packed me my favorite sandwich, toasted bagel with cream cheese and salami. I still eat it today. I would ask the sandwich makers at my university to make me that sandwich almost everyday at lunch.
Cheddar and pepper jack cheese is an amazing combination. Yeah, I would have totally tried the same!
Sadly our school didn't do grilled cheese and alphabet soup, the pinnacle of our hot lunches were mushy fishsticks and potatoes.
Yes I know it sounds horrible but I don't know... I've never really liked crispy fishsticks and somehow, through some strange alchemy, sitting inside one of those steam heat boxes that is supposed to keep the food warm made these fishsticks taste HEAVENLY.
Next on the list would be pasta with meat sauce, and that recipe was so tasty that I actually pestered the lunch lady until I got a copy, I still make it to this day.
If i saw a kid come up to me with the equivalent of a fake food stamp…. Id just give em a free meal

I remember getting my lunches at the lunch line when I was in elementary school. The lunches were good or okay, but I was just happy to get food to eat. I did drink 2-3 of those chocolate milk carton thingys 😅
But when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. My mom will start packing my lunches so I will know how much insulin to give. She will write how many units to give on a piece of paper. I like the lunches my mom will pack for me. She will make me my favorite sandwich (turkey with lettuce, pickles and mustard) with chips, a fruit and a sweet treat. Or a lunchable. Or one of those frozen PB and J sandwiches or the one with the strawberry jelly instead of grape jelly.
We had hotlunch tickets, but they were buttons. Red was a meat lunch, Green was vegan, Blue was pickup and go, Yellow was home lunch

@YoungYongTales Yeah, it worked until me and my friends found out we can finnese the tokens and get 3 lunches, as the Lunch Lady had terrible memory. So we'd eat our meal, and go to back of the line

I don't know if anyone else experience it but in my old high school did this thing where you were given card that was basically a credit card where you had to put in money into it and you used it to pay for the food.

lol I went to school in California we had free lunches
We don’t have an ordinary cafeteria at my school. We only have food from restaurants that you have to preorder. And they are of course more expensive. Most students tend to bring their own lunches, but they’re still popular. We don’t even have a dedicated cafeteria. We just use our gym. And we have a giant curtain that splits the gym in half so while all the prep kids eat lunch, the little ones are having pe on the other side😂
But are the meals vegetarian? All mine were vegetarian

This reminds me a lot of when I had a field trip and since I couldn’t bring a home lunch I had to take one of the brown bags lunches the school offered for those who didn’t bring lunch, unfortunately due to the thin paper bag my entire lunch got squished due to everyone’s giant lunch bags weighing on top of it, even worse it got lost temporarily and a teacher offered me one of his extra lunches they brought only for them to take it away from me mid eating and gave me my smashed lunch, to say I wasn’t embarrassed is a understatement…

I used hot lunch tickets too but in my school they gave us ticket books for at least the first semester or the whole year and they had dates on them to make it more light and valid to get lunch if you dont have a ticket or its not the current date you dont get lunch they did that for until highschool i dont remember why they stopped I was a sophmore

I went to a gifted school as a kid and we could just. CHOSE a hot lunch or a second grade lunch. The second grade was like a vegetarian option and not lunch was like pizza, or pasta, and lasagna. It was rlly cool

My school
Instead of tickets has cards and with those cards you're parents would put money and credit card information to the card so you pay to get lunch
Also there were after school snacks like ice cream candy and even grilled cheese
But after you run out of money you ask you're parents to refill it
The best after school snacks are Fuze tea and milkshake and piroshki an Asian food with rice meat and carrots inside with a nice hollow bread dough cooked in a oven.

I went to 5 different public schools and 2 Christian schools and 1 online school briefly, I also worked as a custodian for 2 years in a school district covering 12 different public shools, and never in my life have i heard of a Hot Meal Ticket until this video.

I wound up in 1 of those public schools where we had a lunch ticket with our name on it & laminated but waited in line, picked up our lunch trays, gave the ticket to 1 of the multiple lunch ladies there and sat down. only thing was the tables were set in 2 per grade in order from k-8

At first I was thinking 'Oh that's actually nice they just decided to give you a dinner, what's one sandwich to a kid right?' then saying he was selling them for money...yeah nah something's up....of course he got sent to *the office*, what else would a school do when they think a kids going hungry, but punish them for it. How do the other kids have hot meals? At least in my elementary and middle school, we didn’t have microwaves. So we’re eating lukewarm or cold packed lunches.
Probably fancy lunch boxes. There are modern ones that keep hot for about 8 hours and even electric ones that can heat food back up.

In Elementary School I Never Had To Spend Money On Lunch, BUT Every Wednesday There Were Always Ice Cream And They Cost $2, Nowadays Students (In My Current School) Are Required To Pack Lunch, I Just Pack Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwiches And Some Other Stuff Nowadays, On Some Days I Dont Pack The Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwich
So many goofy lunch stories happend at my school.
