Nice to see you back. I was wondering where you had been this year!! Looking to use the prawn myself this coming season! Do you want it knocking the bottom like a bunch of worms or sat higher???

HI Jaroold, its good to be back! Business has been busy this year and so the Christmas holidays have given me the chance to catch up on some film making! I've had a good year on the salmon front - with a pb 35lb fish and 6 fish average of 21lbs! Quite remarkable when most of the rest of the country has been on its knees! The prawn works it way up from about 2 feet off the bottom as you hold back the float it will rise like a fly and the salmon will follow it upwards! Induced take! I alter my depth through the pool. Sometimes they want it deep, other times on the rise or even on the surface! Just keep experimenting! I take the float off and free line with shot on shallow pools. Other times I paternoster the prawn and hold it on the lye or bounce it towards the fish! Keep flexible and open minded and you'll increase your chances. Fresh prawn is the key! Tight lines for 2019!

Hi Paul, great vid-what a prolific river the Avon seems to be? I'm from Scotland but this year I bought a car from a chap in Bournemouth--long story short on my train ride from Southampton I passed over the river and instantly thought of your 35lber swimming under that bridge at some point 🤣 One question tho-which coast do the salmon migrate down from the North Atlantic feeding grounds? East or West? Interested to know

Jamie Broomhall hi James thank you for your question. I believe our salmon migrate from the feeding grounds of Greenland and travel south via the Irish Sea. It’s an amazing journey of 3000 miles each way. Repeat spanner’s May do this journey several times !

Nice fish I live in Nanaimo BC Canada I do a lot of river fishing steelhead are my favorite. Hoping you could maybe answer couple questions I thought salmon in Europe were like a mythical fish that have to be realeased if yes I'm wondering why you are allowed to use barbed treble hooks. Here steelhead are catch and release not allowed to use barbed hooks, have to fish with single hooks only non retention of wild steelhead. And most rivers are bait band. Your video really caught me by surprise are you allowed to retain any salmon. Thanks alot Eric
