Anyone who works in the industry knew this airline would not last. Charging $60 between Melbourne and Rockhampton was never going to be viable.

Not all seats sold for $60 , only some , actually on 30/5/2024 , the day that Bonza stopped operations , I went to their app to check on the Melbourne to Rockhampton after my Melbourne to Gladstone flight was cancelled and the fare from Melbourne to Rockhampton was showing as $330 .
Luckily I never booked it as I would have lost the money on more than one flight .
After my flight was cancelled , I asked Jetstar at the airport in Melbourne the price of a flight to Brisbane on the same day and they said $288 instead I took a flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast with Rex Airlines which cost me $129 and stayed over night on the Gold Coast and I was lucky that Qantas gave me a free ticket from Brisbane to get home to Gladstone .
Actually the fare from Brisbane to Gladstone by Qantas is often over $500 one way for a flight that is only about one hour , I have travelled to India via Malaysia and return which is over 24 hours in travel time and the return fare was only around $500 .

History just keeps on repeating itself with these smaller airline organisations .

And yet Australians never learn. Clever country.

There was a reason Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin didn't do the routes Bonza were doing. There's not enough "bums on seats" to make it viable. Using the bigger planes was never going to work. Rex started out small, doing the regional towns and have now taken on the big players on the more lucrative routes.

    • @philipmullins5185
      @philipmullins5185 Před 3 měsíci +2

I observed at airports where the Bonza large planes were fully booked going to regional cities while the Rex airlines going from capital cities to capital cities were less than half full .
Bonza airlines on most routes only travelled those routes twice a week , that is why they could fill their planes .

@@philipmullins5185 Agreed. But they still couldn't make it work.
Rex might be the next to go...

……said exactly same sentences’ at its inauguration. Gave it 6months’ from when they dropped several routes, a few months’ ago, due no jets’ to operate the flights’.
So much for ex-CEO Tim Jordan boastings’ in October 2022. Who’s got egg on his face now…………

@@pamelakinnane1863 Rex has been around a very long time flying the Regional routes in Australia and recently they have started losing money on their capital city to capital routes where there is lots of competition and where planes fly everyday . Bonza only travelled most of their routes twice a week so they could book all their seats on their flights .I suggest Rex should take over the Bonza routes as their other Regional routes have had a long history of being profitable and they should forget about their capital city to capital city routes as they have been too hard to fill due to competition ,
The main problem with Bonza was not filling the seats on their longer flights but their lack of aircraft , paying high leasing cost for new aircraft , they may have been better off flying older aircraft to start with and all the costs in starting a new airline . Lack of money behind them was the main cause of failure also they did not refund passengers in a timely manner when they cancelled flights and they only had a slow chat line which took hours to connect instead of a direct phone line also the only way to book was through an app which often didn't work , they should have had their flights listed with travel agents and with websites like Skyscanner .
Passengers would not mind paying slightly extra to book through an easy system .

Am I the only person in Australia that thought this was the most stupid idea as soon as they mentioned that they were looking to open another airline? It was doomed for failure even before they were dreaming it up.
And 'Bonza' for a name... what could have gone wrong?
