When I listen to sweep pickers, they often fall into the trap of just sweeping as fast as they can, ignoring the rhythm of the music, whereas alternate picking kind of encourages you to be more rhythmical. So I like to practice putting sweeps in between alternate picked phrases so I can keep the all notes equal length.
I learned economy picking from your channel in 2020 :) it helped my other picking techniques too
great video thanks claus
Great stuff man
Agreed. Once I consciously practiced directional picking exclusively, and it actually didn't take a whole lot of sessions, I combined the two almost instinctively. Learning a new piece initially to the point of memorizing the notes, I'd slow it down and strategize the most efficient path utilizing both techniques. Like an obstacle course. Do I climb through the first obstacle and then jump through the second? It becomes natural pretty quickly. It's usually the string shift agreed. Planning the move a note or two ahead will generally solve the problem.
Im an alternate picker, but one picking style, I think, is overlooked or not really thought of is hybrid picking. Although, it really is just all the styles in one, I guess? It just depends on what the player is doing. The brain will adapt over time to find the path of least resistance 🙂
In the end, what counts is the outcome, the path is irrelevant
The melody should sound good. Whether someone travels with a donkey and luggage or takes a plane to reach their destination is their own decision and does not require any evaluation
Thanks for the video👍
Ok give me a 100 millions, I swear I'll appreciate it
I know the focus is on lead playing, but if talking about picking technique in general then could I also add the one that is heavily used in the heavier genres which is downstrokes only.
4:03 😂
If Gambale doesn't alternate pick string shift unless he wants to, it's good enough for me lol.
