- Nanci's lovely version of this Bob Dylan song.

Danny Thompson - Double Bass
Tommy Hayes - Percussion
Ultimately a sad song, when you hear the words themselves. But when Nanci delivers them, and Bobs lyirics and notes, it is so beautiful, you dont care. I heard the beginning once, paused it and downloaded the song and put it on my Ipod Shuffle(long after the shuffle had been discontinued, which was a mistake in my opinion), and only after that did i hear the whole song through to the end, and hear the sadder verses and end, and plus my own experiences with love leaving me, i couldn't listen to it more. But after 6 months to a year(until today, June 29 2022), i just couldn't get past this voice, these words, the notes, that i finally moved on from my heartaches. It may have taken some time to fully hit me, but i finally and fully fell for this song, and specifically this video version. The studio version with Bob Dylan playing the harmonica is super amazing, but everything else about this specific version, makes it the superior of all versions of this Bob Dylan composition. RIP Nanci Griffith, and RIP my Dizzy (dog) who died 10 years and 3 days ago, at the age of 8. Thank you all who are responsible for this specific version of this song. I shall always treasure it.
Just once in a while something comes along that transcends everything. This is an example. If you don't think this is about as good as music gets, you need to think again about music and what it means to you.
RIP Nanci. So beautiful! She was a GREAT singer & a damn good guitar player! Now, Jerry Douglas is from outer space or someplace else! How does he do that? I lose count how many times he flips the inversions on such a simple chord pattern! The licks are amazing! Well, he's easily the best!
Best version EVER. Nanci's voice is taylor-made for this song. Subtle and well placed instruments make this version a real winner
I think this is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard
Spectacular version of one of my favorite Dylan "quiet" songs. What a songstress she is.
Fantastic, RIP Nancy.
Jerry Douglas is a servant to the song. Always appropriate, which is unusual in a superstar.
I see Tommy Hayes playing the Irish drum: Bodhran. Great !!
Missing you Nanci already. Rest in peace dear sweet angel.
Bye, Nanci. Thanks for the music. xxx
Rip Nancy. You were the best.
Little I can add..what an angel...she makes my heart melt... And the back up....unreal.,..moment in time can't be repeated...
This is one of the best versions of this song. Nanci is just superb in her interpretation of this song. Love the guys in this get together. They are best of the best. Love it!
Fine singer...fine song...
Great cover. Love her smile at the end.
Thanks to Bob for the lyrics, Suze for the inspiration, and Nanci for this moving cover. Pure magic.
Always loved her version and Jerry Douglas fits perfectly.
Such a gorgeous voice. I love watching her face when she sings.
It breaks my heart...breaks my heart every time...
