    Thank you for the sugar information.❤ I was wondering if that could be stored in the freezer or not. I was thinking about oxygen and moisture too.
    Yes, bay leaves works as well as basil, not the sweet, as well as cinnamon, which are the best to keep bugs away. Basil keeps bugs away from flour. They are good to use in your gardens as well. Cinnamon is the Best to keep ants away from anything and anywhere. If you live in a hot, humid air area like we do cinnamon is put around everywhere on every shelf, even on the window seals, because ants will come in to try to find water and food. I have been using cinnamon for over 25 years and no ants. I buy 65 pounds of Jasmine rice at a Thai store and has been in storage for about 4 years, and I keep basil in the rice outside the bad all around. It is stored in its original tuff bag it's packed in, and I keep it in a air tight container in the dark.
    As for flour that someone mentioned, flour can be stored in the freezer. You can store flour up to 2 years past its expiration date unopened. If opened up to a year. I store up to 50 pounds of flour in the freezer. We have a huge one. I've been doing this for years, and no problems with the flour with its rising properties. If you do, which I don't believe you will, buy wheat gluten and add 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons to each one cup of flour sifted well. You can also do this with just regular flour unfrozen, and you will see amazing results in the rising of your bake goods. Im an ex nutritionist.
    FYI, off subject to help others to save when money is very tight today. I just started storing up on sugar, too, because of the rising prices of food and especially the fire in the Texas panhandle that has destroyed many thousands of cattle as well as many farms that have all kind of animals and food products such as wheat for flour, corn, etc. as well as eggs from chickens. You can store eggs as well if yo know how to. Thank you for listening. ❤️ have a blessed day, and stay safe.

      Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful tips! ❤️
      We have a video coming out soon on ways to save on beef, which was inspired by the TX fires. Prayers for all those affected!

    When you get flour or sugar, do you freeze it first? I have seen that a lot of those products come with bugs/larvae already inside.

      Flour, yes. Sugar, no. Here's our full discussion on storing flour: czcams.com/video/VxUwspWWMCQ/video.html

    Do you just buy a regular 5 gal bucket and buy the gamma seal separately? Does the sugar take on the taste of bay leaves?

    • @foodprepguide
      @foodprepguide  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, a regular 5-gallon bucket and then buy the gamma lid separately.
      No, the sugar doesn’t take on the smell or taste of the bay leaves. 🙂

      @@foodprepguide I ordered the buckets and seals together off of Amazon. I think that the company is called House Naturals. You receive the buckets, seals and gamma screw tops. The seals go onto the buckets by way of a by way of a rubber mallet. Do not do as I did, and try every which way except the way that they described to put the seals on the buckets. I finally read the instructions and the seals went on easily. Lol. I'm not one for instructions...sigh. Then, screw the gamma top on to that. I would suggest washing everything in soapy water and let the buckets dry for a few days.

    So bay leaves in with the sugar inside the containers? I never heard of that before. What kind of sugar are you using?

    • @foodprepguide
      @foodprepguide  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes, it helps keep the bugs away. :) We use pure cane sugar (Zulka brand).

      @@foodprepguide thank you! Can I ask if needed to begin with a container that has a flat lid will that still work with the bay leaf?

  • @user-ru5oh9jy9n
    @user-ru5oh9jy9n Před 3 měsíci

    No, you don't need to put any bayleaves in your sugar. You don't need to put anything in there. What's gonna happen is that you're gonna change flavor of your sugar

    • @foodprepguide
      @foodprepguide  Před 3 měsíci

      I’ve been doing this for 5+ years. It doesn’t change the flavor of the sugar (at least it never has for me). 🙂

      @foodprepguide well then good for you but yes it eventually does. This tells me you open your long term containers.
