Super Cute Granny Square Chicken. Start To Finish Tutorial Using Two Daisy Granny Squares.

- *PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT UPDATE BELOW.*
THANK YOU! Hi everybody! Today I have a great Daisy Granny Square Chicken tutorial for you. I teach you how to make the Daisy Granny Square and how to turn it into a super cute chicken! This chicken idea is from Sweet Softies. See full acknowledgement below.
*IMPORTANT UPDATE: PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING THE SEWING OF THE GRANNY SQUARES. Editing Tess here, at 24:00 minutes into the video I tell you to chain 2 after the 3 dc cluster, this is incorrect, there are no chains, only in the corners. Also another important item to pass along to you is after you sew the three sides of your two squares together, flatten the open end horizontally so you can determine where to crochet the head parts. I did not show this correctly due to some low sugar brain fog issues. I just want to make sure that you all know where to put the head. It should be facing away from the horizontal opening which becomes the tail area after stuffed and sewn closed.*
IMPORTTANT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I got the idea for this chicken especially for the beak/crown and seaming instructions from Sweet Softies. I have secured the license for sharing the seaming, beak, and crown parts of the pattern. For the written pattern by Sweet Softies please follow this link: (www.ravelry.co...) Hi everybody! I want to let you know that there are two places in this video that I need to make you aware of, so please go to the description above and read the update. Thank you all so much for your support. I truly appreciate each and every one of you! 😍😍
I enjoyed the tutorial but really you should edit the video with your corrections because I didn't read your description at all before starting. I believe CZcams allows you to add captions mid-video without having to re-upload. I was able to correct myself because I've been crocheting for 30+ years, but someone not as well versed may come across your video and follow your mistakes without knowing better.
@@antoneeyuh Hello dear, I'm so sorry about that! I was having some low blood sugar and unfortunately, it affects my thinking. I wish I could add captions mid-video, but CZcams has discontinued that feature so it's no longer available. 😬 I have no idea why they took that feature away. The only thing I could do is put the update in the description and apologize for any inconveniences or frustration this caused. Thank you so much for sharing this with me as I always appreciate suggestions! 😍😍😍
@@tesslovesyarn no worries whatsoever! That's really unfortunate that CZcams disabled that feature. I still love your video and I remixed it. ☺️ I completely understand the blood sugar issue because I'm an ER nurse. I hope you have some snacks nearby! Bless ❤️
You are so sweet! I feel so lucky to have people like you here on my channel! I totally agree with you about CZcams. I have severe hypoglycemia, and none of the doctors here can figure out why. So, I've been referred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. They are reviewing my chart and will hopefully accept me as a patient. It's so nice to have someone who understands all of that and how awful it is. I have a boat load of peanut butter crackers! Thank you again for just being so sweet! 😍😍😍
@@tesslovesyarn oh wow, I hope so much that they accept you as a patient. The Mayo Clinic is amazing. Crossing my fingers for you that you find some answers soon!
I learned to crochet when I was 8 years old making Granny squares. I’m 72 now 😊
Thank you Facebook algorithm! Someone shared this in a group im not in and it was pushed to me. I had a TERRIBLE craft show and the lady next to me could not stop selling chickens. Sooooo now I have one for myself that is more my style with worsted weight. 😁 I've been wanting more granny square animals (currently working on a spider as a present).
Same for me, first thing I saw on Facebook this evening! I'm definitely going to make these.
The original design is from Sweet Softees and she has many tutorials for her designs, many of them free and all just precious. Check her out!
@@maryschultz7413 Yes, I credit Sweet Softies in my description for the original idea. She is so creative and talented! 😀
Cool! May try making a bigger one weighted and use as a door stop!

Hi Helen! You crack me up! Great idea! 🤣😍
My tutor group have just adopted a chicken! I'm going to make lots of these to give one to each student in my class. Thank you so much!
Wow! I just saw these this morning...I'm gonna make some squares to do my lil chickens.😂Those are so cute.
@catrinanerey1596 Hi Catrina! These are so quick and fun to make! Just be mindful of your opening so you put the face parts in the correct position. The opening gets sewn together horizontally, so sew three sides, then squish the opening together horizontally and check to see what corner the face and other parts need to go on. Have fun, dear! 😍
@@tesslovesyarn 😁 thanks for the tip. Have a fabulous day.

Thank you for a good tutorial. I like the non-chain 3 method you showed. I'm going to try that when I make the chicken. It will be a fun project. Might use it for random acts of crochet kindness or back pack buddies. Take care of yourself and thanks again.
These do make nice little gifts. Everybody loves them. 😀

Brilliant way to start your round (instead of using a chain 3)! I'm going to use that technique forever! Thank you for sharing!
@robinmanly7381 Hi Robin! Thank you so much! I never do chains anymore. This looks just like a dc! I wish I could add a photo of the one that I made from your tutorial. It turned out so cute! Thank you for giving such a good tutorial and doing everything slowly where I could follow along. Most of the time a tutorial is too fast and I have to pause multiple times to be able to follow along. Thanks again! Take care of yourself I know that blood sugar problems can be terrible to handle. ❤

@sandaramoore9660 Hi Sandra! Thank you so much for that sweet comment you left me. I really appreciate you for doing that. When your making these, be mindful of where you are sewing your face on so when you press the open end down horizontally, the face is on the opposite corner looking out and the horizontal opening becomes the tail end. That fly is killing me 😂😂😂
@linamoses3513 OMG Lina! I know, right! 🤣 That pesky fly would not leave me alone. We have two dogs, so sometimes the little pests zip right in when we are letting the dogs out or calling them back in. Summers are the worst for flies! Well hello, dear! I am tickled pink that you subscribed. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 😍
How do you keep from seeing stuffing through the holes? These are cute ❤
@@cheezywheezy1 Go down on your hook size so the holes are smaller. 😀
Awe man, I didn't see the edit until after i tied it off on the last row. 😢 No wonder mine looks wonky. And I'm using scrap yarn so i might not have enough for a 3rd square. Maybe I'll just put this wonky one with a correct one and make it work.
I will say though, that your instruction was easy to follow and you showed and described everything in a way that made it easy for a beginner like me to follow along. And I learned what a treble cluster was! So thank you for that! 🧡 I'll be subbing and looking at your other tutorials for something else to make along with you. You had me confused. On row 3 you said to chain 2 between the first two sets of three DCs (23:52). Moving on through that row, you said not to chain in between the DC groups. I had to frog it twice and decided not to chain. Is this correct?
@peacelovehomestead8361 I'm so sorry. I was having some low blood sugar issues. Yes, you are correct, no chains between the 3 DC groups, only chain on the corners. 😀

What size needle? Mine comes out too big and you can see the stuffing.?
Hi Irene! Use a hook size that is two sizes smaller than the recommended hook size on the yarn label. There will naturally be small holes but nothing too big. These are super cute. Have fun makingvthem! 😍

So I had to cut out all the sewing of the squares because where you turn the bottom the opposite way was sewn shut already, not feeling kind at the moment. Make sure if you make this that you pay attention to where you either put head or tail otherwise you will have to do the same.

I don’t understand, why the new chicken is sowed in the front and the other isn‘t….
@@francocoscurry I'm not sure that I understand your question. I'm sorry. Can you explain further what you mean. Thank you!
Yep I was thinking the same thing! The chicken isn’t like the ones on the front page of the video! The one you made is different to the others.
u can see the fluff how can u stop that
Hello Vicki! You can't put too much stuffing in your chicken, or the stuffing will really show. Less is best here, and the stuffing might still show a little bit, and that's okay as it can't be helped to a certain degree. I hope that helps! 😍
@@tesslovesyarnI was thinking the very same thing. Maybe line it with a sheet of felt cut to fit. That’s what I’d do. That stuffing showing bothers me, it looks undone or something.
Did you mess up and sew the triangle the wrong way? The chicken can't sit. Is that why you didn't do the tail feathers? Very confusing
@marita8485 Hi Marita! Yes, you have to sew 3 sides together then flatten the open side horizontally to see where to place the chickens' "head features" before you put them on. Unfortunately, I was having a low blood sugar incident and didn't do this myself before I added the features. I am going to add a note in the description box to reflect that. Thank you so much for your help with this and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of that! 😀😍
@@tesslovesyarn just shows your as human as the rest of us so don’t be worrying . You have given me a fun way to use up some of my many granny squares that needed a cute little project like this . Subscribed with love from UK x
