- Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie is my favourite book I've read in 2021 so far. Here's why.

His new Age of Madness trilogy is the best thing he’s done so far. Such an amazing author.
Especially Trouble With Peace, it gives Best Served a run for its money as my favorite in the series.
O man my heart broke for what Shivers becomes in this book.
The humor in this book is top notch, and I always say Joe is the Tarantino of fantasy. Loved this review!
Absolutely man, thank you!
Honestly it sucks that these videos get so little views. Please continue doing them, this channel isn't only about cosmere stuff!
I appreciate the support so much. It can be a little demoralising but I'm always going to talk about what I enjoy.
@@LostinDiscovery keep it up brother, I’m still watchin
@@LostinDiscovery I can only imagine how frustrating it must be. I'll still be here for every video, though!
Thanks man
@@LostinDiscovery I'll always watch your vids
All of Abercrombie's books have been so good, I'm really excited to see more from him
You’re the best booktuber hands down
Thanks man!
Caul Shiver becoming like the man he hated the most broke my heart but it is an amazing character arc
“If you live in the First Law universe, you’re gonna have to be a little more realistic about things”
Idk if that was on purpose but I love it 😂
Great review! Nicomo is my favorite Abercrombie character 🖤 he's very entertaining and has some of the most quotable lines.
Thank you! He was amazing, wouldn’t trust the bastard for a second though.
Yessss! Great review, my friend. I loved this book!! Friendly is one of my favorite characters (among many) created by Abercrombie! 😄
Thanks man! He's unforgettable.
Best Served Cold was more visceral than the First Law trilogy, in my opinion. Incredibly dark and brutal, but also with some great humor in it.
Ah, Murcatto, the one that got away. We could've accomplished so much had you aligned with me. You haven't seen the last of me, Snake of Talins!
Took me a year to listen to you but you were right, this is one of my favorite books ever
This is and your review of The Heroes are so great! I just finished the First Law trilogy. As someone who actively avoids fantasy, I was completely enthralled by the world and characters that Abercrombie has crafted. The man is truly second to none as an author. About to start with the standalone books, but would love to see your review of Red Country and the new trilogy in the future
The pace, of course, is like a runaway train, the characters leap off the page and are so memorably hilarious, but the driving revenge plot is tragically destructive and painful. Still my favourite First Law book (although the whole series is greater than the sum of its parts in my view), I'm glad you loved it!
I KNOW right! have never understood why people say, "The food is getting cold, you better eat it." Some food items are best served cold, and not just ice-cream or drinks necessarily.
So glad you liked it! The scene at Cardotti's is pretty much my all-time favorite scene of any fantasy book. Joe's writing of complex action scenes is just unparalleled in the genre.
I'm currently working my way through Red Country now, with plans to "catch up" up through the Age of Madness as soon as the last book comes out this September!
Nice! I'm trying to catch up as well!
Fantastic review! I adore BSC, one of my favorite books of all time. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!
This book and The Heroes are peak Abercrombie for me (and in very different ways).
I just finished this too. It was pretty great.
Stop. You're making me buy the First Law trilogy and then this book I'm sure-oh, I just added it to the cart...
Great book review.
Hahaha, yes!! Get into it!
Thank you.
Joe Abercrombie is the best character writer that I have seen.
As someone who listened to the audiobook I never realised Shivers first name is Caul. I just heard Caul as "called" and assumed he always introduced himself with "Called Shivers" and that we never knew his first name .
My mind is blown and I will never view the First Law universe the same ever again....
Absolutely loved Best Served Cold. I'm midway through The Trouble with Peace, right now, and I have to say, every book I read of his I like even more. The Heroes is so damned good. But, the Age of Madness trilogy is topping them all. He's just a brilliant author.
I read this book this year. It’s my first Abercrombie book I’ve read after reading First Law. Damn was this book brutal! So. Bloody. Brutal!
‘It should have been you...’
Going to be reading this book this week can't wait to finally get into this 😄😊☺️
Hope you enjoy it Cynthia!
Can't get enough first law. Please keep it up, love seeing your passion
Would you say Friendly was portrayed (without mentioning though as I'm sure characters in world don't know) as someone with autism? That's what I assumed and it really made me enjoy it even more
Thank you!
I was under the impression that Friendly was on the spectrum, yes.
At least you realized you weren't holding the book up correctly. LOL. I need to read this book. I've finished the First Law Trilogy and could use some more Joe Abercrombie in my life.
😂 It could’ve been bad. Yes! i’d love to hear what you thought of this book.
I didn't see how this book could live up to the original trilogy but I'll be damned it did, i do not think i have lever laughed so much with any book.
I feel 100% the same as you.
The perspective jumping and refining of previous characters is definitely something that Abercrombie keeps up in his later works. A lot of characters from Best Served Cold and The Heroes end up popping up in the Age of Madness Triology (less so with Red Country but you get references in other ways) and it's always really gratifying.
What I really want to know was what's your opinion on Shivers basically undergoing a reverse heroes journey where the big lesson he learns is that he shouldn't be a good person? Personally I really enjoyed it and sorta felt it was a breath of fresh air but I'm curious as to what others think. In all honesty, once you've caught up on Abercrombies work I'd actually be pretty interested in an overall analysis of Shivers character.
Shivers’ arc was absolutely brilliant. I enjoyed it a lot but found it completely depressing at the same time. I wanted to badly for him to improve but this new direction will be compelling for sure.
I'll need to find the time to mix in the standalones..... There is just too much to read 😵 It sucks but at the same time is awesome to have taken a 14 year hiatus from reading fantasy lol
I've read the First Law trilogy and this book. Best Served Cold is the best so far. I can't wait to read the rest...
Red Country is amazing as well.
Joe is genuinely downright hilarious! I too would constantly break out laughing. He just has such a dark and hilarious sense of humor and transfers that to the page so well!
I just want to say thanks for not putting a picture of your face making some unpleasant look to click bait / trigger the algorithm. Hopefully the beautifully drawn pictures of the characters do the same things.
when will you review hero of ages?
