  • I purchased some feed to get us through the next 4-6 weeks. If all goes to plan we will be able to start rotational grazing again.

Lol, supposedly that’s only half the max payload this truck can handle. But I’m with you, it was squatting plenty enough for me.

Seasons Greetings Ben, I love the way heart face is always at the front of the herd, and that cheeky Dollop is in her own cow world. Well that seemed to go very well that feed up, you always have great solutions. I used to always feed my cows whole oranges, which are full of vitamins and nutrients when grass is scarce, it was great for them, they think they are delicious they also have an antimicrobial effect in the cows gut. I got more twins than before too, something I discovered just using my instincts. You can start them on quarters, then halves and finally whole. Great if you have citrus trees. Administering medicines was simple, just put it in an orange, and down it went! Ive never met a cow who didn't devour them. My herds have been tame too, they only put me in hospital once, they are just like big excited puppies aren't they? Wait till they get in that fresh pasture, it makes them so happy, they will be dancing up a storm.
As far as troughs go check out the cement ones at Lone Rock Ranch, really solid, and modular, they are here on YT. Happy New Year to you and the Family from country Australia, cheers Astarté 🤠🧡🧡🧡

I do have some citrus trees but they are young and not producing anything of significance yet. I have satsumas , s navel orange and a lemon tree. Satsumas are our favorite and I have heard that animals enjoy them too. We will have to test them out with the cows at some point.

And I’ll check out the troughs. Might be able to use some heavy permanent ones along with some lighter more mobile ones.

You definitely work smarter. The green plot of land will also sustain them later.Wise financial decision on grain verses hay during this stretch of feeding options. Bet they frolic and show a great scene when they eventionally graze in the greener pastures.
Hope you have a Happy New Year throughout 2024.

They are getting unlimited hay and about 3 pounds per head of 15% protein pellets. I could probably wean most of the calves to help the cows out more but I think we can hold on for a few more weeks and get back to grazing.
