It really is an engineering marvel to watch a winch the size of a footy haul a 3 plus tonne 4wd up a muddy wall with a piece of rope no thicker than a KFC chip.

Me and my pop cut off the top of old gas tanks and put slots in the side of them, attach legs to them that you can pull off then we have a fire in the tank. I think thats my luxury item I take on camp. Keep up the content!

I actually had the exact same breakage as Shauno at Yalwal a few years ago in my 80. Had no spares and a few ideas. Ended up ratchet strapping the whole thing back together and driving back up the steps all the way back to Nowra for a tow.
This video really shows how amazing good winches are. Look at how thin those synth ropes are, and look what they can achieve. Bloody marvellous, in the right hands.
