    My GSS dubbing came in Tuesday and I couldn't wait to try it out I tied up a dozen of both and went to the river which is about 2 foot higher than normal and we caught several fish none of them were as big as the ones you show in your videos but none the less those flies really do work good.

    I watched and tied both flies and have caught some wild brown trout in a small stream when they are chasing caddis emergers The trout don't stay in one place and rise like a mayfly hatch ,they cruise around in the slow pools and pick them off . The hardest part is the water is clear with little current so it's hard to not spook them and then put the fly far enough away that they don't see it hit the water but close enough that you can control the drag. Easiest time is when you can see 2 or3 fish cruising together. Dropping the fly in the right place often has each fish racing to get it before the others can. I caught my best fish there that way. PS according to the state the trout shouldn't be there the stream was never stocked with browns only brookies and that was 20 years ago. Maybe they went up there to spawn and decided to stay.

    Hey Jim, have you had a chance to check out the new color of the GSS? I bought some yesterday and can't wait to get it. I don't have a camera though I am not so fond of an audience anyway. All the best to you, Sean

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  Před 10 lety

      No I haven't but if you said it's chartreuse it might be awhile before I get some.
      Thanks for the info.

    • @seanmooney3907
      @seanmooney3907 Před 10 lety

      I haven't seen it yet but if it is true to form it will have chartruese and other colors just like the olive does. I hope it is really nice. This material seems to breed in the bag. The more I use the more I seem to have! I know it sounds crazy but I have had the first two bags for over a year now and they still look full. I bet a mixture of olive and chartruese could be deadly. I'll let you know what I think
      All the best, Sean

    How do you keep a tippet from tangling twisting up on your dry fly

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  Před 4 lety

      Using the right size tippet is the key. Size of fly divide by 3

    Question about your GSS do you cut it into leghths mine that I go is really long and boy is there a lot of it it looks great but was just wondering if you cut the long strips down some before you use them?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  Před 4 lety

      I don't cut it always do nothing but break it off. You are right about the amount it jusy shows that the other companies are being... shall we say greedy. Everything in modern fly tying is a by-product of another industry. With the exception of feathers and hair or fur. The rest is just how much can we profit from this. it may sound harsh but it is true. The late great Lefty Kreh once said 90% of the fly fishing Industy is bull****.

  • @jameschristian2966
    @jameschristian2966 Před 6 lety

    Thanks, what type tippet material do you use with these?
    What brand do you prefer?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  Před 6 lety +1

      I like the Cortland tippet, it turns over nicely with no memory. As to the size tippet the proper way to determine that is to take the size of the hook and divide by three. The closest number would be the proper tippet size. If you have a #20 fly then divided by threeclosest number would be 7X. 3x7=21. A #14 would be 5X 3x5=15. #12 is 4x 3x4=12.
