i love how michelle yeoh being cast is not only integral to the script and evelyn wang's character but also to the entire film (jamie lee curtis saying yes, fighting for ke huy quan and stephanie hsu, believing in the MartialClub, unapologetically giving her artistic inputs on some scenes and sequences, and i even saw her suggesting movements to some choreographies they did in the battle sequences). LITERALLY A LIVING LEGEND. GIVE HER HER FLOWERS NOW!
16:53 to 17:06 Watch the "Boys..." speech! Classic!
That is wonderful to know, such a talented lady
It would be nice if more movie stars were like this, but too few are.
If you watch her interview with Jimmy Kimmel he shows a photo of her binder of notes for the script. You would be amazed at her level of intricacy and commitment to her craft. She is a paradigm for an actor being an artist and not just an entertainer.
@@skatingcanuck9837 where is the clip? i searched on youtube but only found one that doesnt have this scene
This guy is a great interviewer. Really lets guests take their time, not interrupting, and asking some really thoughtful questions.
It's amazing that the coolest person on Earth is a sixty something year old Asian woman. I grew up watching Michelle Yeoh movies. It blows my mind that in 2023 she may win an Oscar for Best Actress.
The hilariously sad reality is that if she was Japanese, no one would ever dare describe her as an “Asian woman”. She would be unquestionably Japanese. But because she’s not then it doesn’t matter where she’s really from.
And now she's the coolest person on Earth... with an Oscar, Golden Globe, etc, etc.
Michelle Yeoh is the single most versatile actress we have right now. The Daniel’s nailed the fact that she completely transformed physically in an utterly invisible manner. A24 is a brilliant organization that actually makes art that challenges on numerous levels. All art makes us feel something. Great art like EEAAO makes us examine and delve and ponder and repeat the process.
Well done to the entire cast and crew. You are The Hamilton of current cinema.
the fuck is the hamilton?
@@Kevon420 Hamilton is a very popular stage play
hamilton sucks
@@Kevon420 @MUD Yes, Hamilton is a popular play (multi- Tony winning) which was based on a critically acclaimed biography.
Very articulately and eloquently worded.
The best thing about the Daniels is that they don't hold back and takes the risks to bring the highest form of art in directing. From the Swiss Army Man to EEAAO the quality this duo brings to make a movie lifts the bar higher and higher!
And don't forget the Turn down for what video; czcams.com/video/HMUDVMiITOU/video.html
The Daniels are not only great directors, they are also wonderful, humble, deep human beings and that’s what counts the most!
Couldn't agree with you more. Never heard of them before EEAAO.
OK --- These guys are fabulous and fun. I am close to the same (63) age as Michelle and I saw this right when it came out (in the theater) and I walked out of the theater and said this is going to be BIG and will go to the Oscars. Just a shout-out to the older people who REALLY got this movie. Keep making movies. Best movie I have seen in a very very long time.
Agree not to disagree...honestly speaking 🎉
Wow, them mentioning the kids they “co-directed” with by name says a lot. Not only are they acknowledging their input, they are saying these are our fellow artists and coworkers. Acknowledging the contributions of our youth does so much ❤
wow this interviewer is actually super engaging and good at his job sheesh
And all 11 Oscar nominees are 1st time nominees.
Echo Quan proving how much she’s the heart of this film
She is Waymond Wang, she embodies his spirit.
If this doesn't sweep the Oscars, then the Academy just needs to stop and figure out a different reason to justify salary bumps to the already overpaid players in the game. 'Nuff said.
It can’t sweep if they have two actors in the same category.
@@TheMovieJunkiez czcams.com/video/4chBmCO4fNs/video.html
@@TheMovieJunkiez technically it can because there can be a tie and it happened before in 1968 in Best Actress category. But in this case they will lose to Angela Bassett
@@TheMovieJunkiezlets call it a tie
@@TjMulyadi i’m rooting for a tie because angela did great but steph easily deserves the win more (although angela is my second favorite in the category so if she or hong chao wins i’ll still be slightly tolerant and happy i just really like stephanie hsu lol)
Imagine having the daniels as your camp counselors and then seeing them win and Oscar and rise to who they are now
I can listen to Daniel Kwan talk till the end of time. His voice is so calming and he is so articulate
The last part where they talk about what they love most about each other made me tear up; this talentedass duo is my absolute FAVE
I watched the film again a few days ago along with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It was a great double feature. I hope Michelle Yeoh gets an Oscar.
And she just did! Haha!
One of the best interviews with the Daniels! They’re so funny, creative, and knowledgeable about film. I could listen to them for hours. Wishing them and EEAAO the best of luck at the Oscars! 🍀 They deserve all their flowers now! 💐
If the Oscar don’t give out best picture or director to them they are not progressing of what cinema is heading
Please no sequels/remakes/rehashes/etc, it’s so amazing on its own just let it live in that world forever. Just more fun interesting new stories now:)
Perhaps they should work with the same cast again though.
@@andybrice2711 That I'm fine with, similar to how Fincher/Nolan/etc work with people over and over again.
I would love for them to work with Stephen Chow, cause some parts in EEAAO it’s very much giving Kung Fu Hustle vibes with all it’s absurd extra and sillyness combined with amazing wuxia style. That would be something
Don't worry. They'll remake it with a white cast next time because "they got it wrong"
@@user-tz9jh6pv2j who hurt you
EEAAO is going to win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor(kee Huy Quan) and Best Actress(Michelle Yeoh) Award at the Academy......
The stunts are Fantastic....truly worth it ❤️
You nailed it!
Thankyou Sophie
This actually aged well lol
@@Cloudfive55 Well. They got best original screenplay and best supporting actress too.
Watched EEAAO at a packed theater on the opening weekend was a highlight of movie going experiences for me in recent years. Little did I know what came after is such unexpected joyful journey following all these wonderful interviews of the Daniels. Just want to say I'm so thankful for all these interviewers/ hosts for their great conversations that allow us to get into the beautiful creative minds of theirs.
However not all film makers are as open and generous as these two in sharing their thoughts on almost all subjects, both professionally and personally. The way they responded to that last question is so genuine and heartfelt, it's like the most positive example of a couple therapy 💕
Can anyone ask Daniel Schienert where he got his AWESOME princess mononoke jacket?
YES!!
i am scrolling through the comments looking for this info!!!!!
Love these guys! So humble, so creative... Their art and story is so inspiring
They truly deserve to be the big winner as directors.
You are right, turns out they did!
Those two genius are national treasures! So unique, imaginative and original!
@11:10 I saw this movie on a flight to South Carolina, by the end of the movie I'd completely forgot I was on a plane.
Swiss Army Man was one of the most brilliant and emotionally intelligent films of the 2010s decade. I hope more people check it out.
agreed
Never heard of it til recently! Definitely will check it out sometime
Totally agree! It is such a good movie
It was a terrible movie but appreciated the attempts at innovation and pushing the limits. It got us “Everything Everywhere All At Once” so it’s a step up on their creative process. Sometimes you have to bomb, especially when you’re creating new realities, to get to the crux of what you’re trying to say. EEAAO, is a masterpiece. I need to see it again in the cinema before it wins the Oscar.
I loved it. In fact, when I heard the "Everything Everywhere All At Once came out and it was by the same creative team, I knew it would be amazing!
Wow, great questions and the guys are so nice to each other as well as the rest of the cast and crew. Just amazing.
Thank you so much for this interview. I love the fact that the Daniels were so comfortable and open and did the majority of the talking. Really appreciated this aspect of the interview
Please more recognition for James Hong as well.
EEAAO is the most recent movie which had the most impact for me. A film which you would recommend to your friend and family because its too damn awesome.
I love the Daniels so much! They are such comfy and safe people.
Rarely have I been so excited by an original movie idea, and then my high expectations were surpassed. I can't wait to see what is next.
Michelle was like your mama bear. She got the story -- lots of us over 60 got it .
That's good to hear. Most ppl in the older generation did not understand the chaos of this movie, it was chaotic for a reason as the title of the film suggests. 😊
Incredible insight into the Daniels.
I’m so glad there wasn’t any noise in the rock scene…it would have been too overwhelming after having that out of body experience where we see all the Evelyns from all the universes…
Absolutely! It is a great relief after all the chaos across all these universe
Oh yeah it was overwhelming as she transitioned into a giant rock. We felt the weight of her unhappiness and the chaos. So the silence of that scene was much needed reprieve and it was so powerful.
I’m in the professional games industry after years of personal projects and it’s not quite the same as them, but the imposter syndrome they express of talking and working with their heroes is so relatable on many levels. I love their humility and down-to-earth nature. Wonderful filmmakers and people and looking forward to whatever they do next!!!
Let me just say that as a 61 year old woman I totally connected with this movie where some younger people I know didn't.
I’m 35 and I did probably as much as you lol. Might be the way each person naturally “connects to the universe”
@@ChronoMune I made my comment in response to Daniel Kwan's remark that he didn't expect Michelle Yeoh to connect so well to the movie because she was 60 years old.
@@fosterapamela oh. Well I made my comment in response to your comment in response to Daniel Kwan's remark that he didn't expect Michelle Yeoh to connect so well to the movie because she was 60 years old 😂
Seems like you thought I meant something bad by it. I didn’t. I didn’t think anything bad of your original comment
It befuddles me so many older generations don't understand this movie, but it's good to know there are those such as yourself that do "get it". 😊
I adore this film, I hope that it nabs Best Picture!
came here after your big win! wow! congratulation!
Imagine how happy the investors. With so little money but hit it so huge. Not just the money. It’s for believing in their vision with this movie.
Some of them didn’t believe and wanted white people etc. daniels held their grounds, all credits to them ❤
@@zedi528 oh yeah I heard some of them wanted it to be centered on a white family cos they were not sold on a immigrant Asian family being able to connect audiences. Which is kinda sad they didn't believe audiences could connect to this film and that's kinda insulting.
I love the rock scenes❤ The lack of sound took me to another place. On another note, I saw the film yesterday and thought that it really resonates with me because of my experiences so far in my 50 years of life. Not sure why the directors thought it wouldn’t resonate with Michelle Yeoh because of her age (60).
thank you Daniels, the movie touched me deeply. It spoke to me in so many ways, I can't even begin to list depths.
I'm so inspired by them! I love their friendship and the thoughtful, humble way they uplift others.
Thank you Daniels for making 'My mom - The Movie'
😂
The feel of the film was VERY 1990s 2000s Hong Kong cinema. It reminded me of zany comedies like "McDull: The Alumni" (my personal favorite comedy). The cast felt like a classic Hong Kong comedy cast. It was interesting to see where this feel came from.
I shared the same impression. HK was too early.
Yeah, the humor in the film reminds me of the MoLeiTou comedy of Stephen Chow's films.
This was an awesome conversation! Thank you!
wow I have sung my praises of EEAO in so many ways but I'm even more touched by this film knowing that spiritual practices were followed during production ㅠㅠ great that the Daniels embraced the beliefs their cast was bringing onto set. as a queer eldest immigrant daughter I feel like all my viewings (took my fellow ethnic gals out to see it 3x over LOL I'm happy to contribute to the box office numbers for this movie) represent me + my ppl's happy ending on screen but as someone w shamans in the family I'm even more appreciate of the respect for Asian culture this film has brought into the zeitgeist
Echo Quan sounds like a beautiful soul. Ke mentioned in his speech at the Oscar’s that his wife always told him that he would someday get the recognition he deserved and she was right. She told Daniels that this movie had a beautiful soul and would touch souls around the world, and she was absolutely right.
I love these two guys and this is one of my favorite interviews !
I love this interview! Daniels
Great job Daniels. You swiped 'em . I'm no regular watching interviews like these but this has been exceptional, inspiring to learn of the experiences of both from you.
Get ready for an Oscar sweep 🧹 By far the best movie of 2022 and one of the best of all time!!! A masterpiece on every level!!! High Art!!!❤️🔥✨🛸💫🎓🎯
That whole bit about Roger Deakins is such a bummer, but it doesn’t surprise me. Roger doesn’t take himself too seriously and I get the sense that he hates all the Hollywood fluff. He just wants to do his job and let that be it. Such a shame though, because whenever he shares his process, it’s so enlightening and inspiring. I need a Masterclass from him ASAP👏🏼
There is a Masterclass from Roger Deakins...

Do you have a timestamp?
Nvm, it's 25:35
This script has a powerful soul. Wow. That's really special. I wish I could say this about what i do.
Their bromance is so adorable 🥰 🥰🥰🥰🥰
33:38 please no sequels! the movie was perfect on its own and no sequel will live up to it tbh, its a complete story on its own that doesn't need a revisiting or rehashing
The sequel could probably be called Nothing Nowhere Individually or something.
@@EamonKelly no
@@EamonKelly Nothing Nowhere Never
@@sarahdarling6974 Ooh that's a better one.
My guess is the movie would be stand alone but with elements discarded from EEAAO. They mentioned love triangle and ADHD. Evelyn was intended to be ADHD but the film ended up not exploring that part. Evelyn had relationship with both Waymond and Deirdre in different universes and that might be where the love triangle is from.
I learned so much about the Daniels from this interview! Variety - please fix the last minute so Daniel Scheinert's thoughtful answer isn't covered over by promos for your other videos.
18:54 another reason the silent stone scene works best is that it has resonance with both internet memes and motivational posters. The caption fonts and everything as well as the subject matter are all floating around those sorts of themes; the absurdity and the unloading of the philosophy of the movie - it all works better tying in to those cultural realities.
I also have strong feelings about Eternal sunshine of spotless mind. 🌟👌
Did ya hear? Spielberg shouted you out and said he’s learned a lot about filmmaking from you.
Where did he do that? I’d love to see it
@@klmnclement czcams.com/video/hJhc66Ebb2c/video.html
@@klmnclement yeah he said that in some interview. Spielberg credits the Daniels for having a powerful and great script.

the rocks, now when i knew the story behind it. i'm getting goosebumps.
They way they shot the scene was amazing in itself and to think they had an alternate version with the voiceover? but so glad they went with the silent, subtitled version. 😊
If only these two directed Doctor Strange MoM, it would've been the best MCU film.
Even the most phenomenal of directors like the Daniels would still be held back by such a mediocre screenplay. But yeah, watching MoM after EEAAO pretty much killed the last of my MCU fandom.
Love, bless and thanks !
Awesome thank you!
Fun. Well Spoken D.K. -Great movie...one of my favorites! Thank you D.S. and D.K. ... Michelle Yeoh - hero!
Congratulations to the Daniels. Awesome pair💐🎊🎉
ohh i love that dan kwan mentioned dolly
Stephanie and Cal, you got the shout out by the Daniels!!!!
Really props to Michelle Yeoh for taking a risk on a crazy script like this and working with young unproven directors. I don't think the movie would be as successful if they cast Jackie Chan. It would be just comedic .
Amazing, Divine, Destiny, Perseverance, Brilliant!
wondering where paul and daniel were in this film... asking all the right questions. so so so glad this movie is getting all its deserved attention but i'm sad time hasn't been as kind to swiss army man. it's got amazing messaging and absurdity too.
And now I want to know if the summer camp they worked at is 5e same camp that I worked in Massachusetts! Love that story.
I immediately recognized Daniel Scheinert Princess Mononoke's shirt.
Best friend for ever, and all that success!
Bruh but that sweater that Daniel Scheinert!! Princess Mononoke!! What an amazing jacket and I legit want it.
Same. It would look awful on me but I don't care.
I was not expecting Sufjan Stevens to be brought up, I love them even more
Two words: OSCARS SWEEP! Whoohoo!!!
Please no sequel.
They finish each other's sentences... they're too cute.
the movie is successful because of its organic eastern western experience.
Love these guys. Won me over.
Daniel Kwon talking about Sufjan?! 🥲😘❤❤❤❤

the rock scene was one of the best scenes ever made in the history of movies 😂
I love how the host just let them talks…
Excellent interviewer.
Michelle is the most underrappreciated actress of ALL TIME
That's the secret sauce of all of our movies...that's why we're here right now. ............says it all.
Anyone know where i can get David's Princess Mononoke jacket?
Michelle coming to beat you up over that age comment 😂😂😂
The Daniels recognised the talent of Dolly De Leon. I hope they cast her in one of their projects in the future.
i want to see that dibs commercial xD
OMG, yes please to an Animatrix treatment of Everything Everywhere!
i just wanna now where can I find this Ghibi Jacket that Daniel Scheinert is wearing. Someone knows?
Bestttt movie I’ve seeen in yearsss wtfff
The directors should visit Malaysia and look for new artists , talent and great scripts for their next hits
