Thank you for the bar tip my son had blisters and bad temper after trying all morning to get bolt off , used a wind chime bar after watching your video got it loose straight away 🎉
Nice, is an old mechanic trick that he will know the rest of his life now.
I’m a little old lady and I worked for an hour, got WD 40 in my eye, and cussed a lot! My teenage grandson stepped in and cranked til he got blisters and thinks he might need several fingers amputated! But, that metal pipe idea was GENIUS! I used a fence post driver and it took seconds! You ROCK!!! I love you!!
Haha that is great news. WD40 won’t help much on a stuck bolt, it is all about leverage. Sounds like you have a handy grandson there!
Mike love your Texas Tech cap. I am from class of 1969. Go Raiders!!!!
Just dropping in a thanks for the pipe trick! Whanged on it for a while with my wrenches and tried a heat gun and hitting it with a hammer... and the pipe turned out to be just what I needed and BLAMMO!
Nice! Is an old mechanic trick. Glad it worked
Greetings from your newest subscriber. I may have to resort to an impact driver, growing old sucks. Thanks for the tips Mike, I’m enjoying your content. Cheers from North Texas
Nothing wrong with an impact. That 20v Dewalt does fantastic for me. There should be a link in the video description.
Welcome aboard I am not far from ya.
Thank you THANK YOU!! It worked!!! I wish I’d started with watching this video!
Sweet! Glad you come around to my goofy arse eventually lol.
Trying to listen to this while my old lady natters on about something at work. 👍
Haha glad I can provide some relief, I have been there!
An old trick is to put a strong phillips screwdriver in one of the 2 holes on the blade near the bolt. The screwdriver slides through and locks in place using the lawnmower so you can crack the bolt.
Wow excellent trick. Thanks
You had me at Johnny Cash on vinyl.
Can’t beat it, am just glad it was scratchy enough that CZcams didn’t block the music haha.
Mine is 5/8
Nice guns bub !! i was excited to see the trick until you went through the crank shaft. my mower is battery/electric so i can't go that way. Need to find some other way to un stick that nut.
Check this out, it clamps to the deck and holds the blade.

one idea i saw is to wedge a piece of wood between the blade and the body to keep it from turning. it may bend the old blade though.
I would just use oxy torch to heat the bolt, the use breaker bar or torque wrench to remove it
Heat is always good, I didn’t want to show people how to use a torch so close to a gas tank thought
My blade nut will not come off, it will not unthread, just keeps turning without comming down the threads
Any I deas?I changed blades and this nut would not tighten..now won't come off to add washers maybe
The threads are stripped. I don’t have any good solutions for ya on a push mower. If you can get the bolt off you can pull the engine off and try to re tap the threads.
My problem isn't that i couldn't loosen the bolt with my impact. the problem is the bolt threads galled on the crankshaft. I was able to remove the blade by using hacksaw on the bolt head. Now I have the remainder of the bolt still stuck on the crank. Any help would surely be appreciated.
I feel your pain I have been there before. I have used every extractor there is. I think your best bet is to use a left handed drill bit set. You just keep drilling bits in, each one bigger than the last and it will start catching and hopefully back out your bolt.
But if it was so stuck that an impact couldn’t get the bolt off to stay with it maybe time for a new mower. Let me know how this turns out and well done with doing the most redneck method of all time to remove a mower blade. Haha
@@MowerMike I which it was a cheap mower but it's not, it's a chipper shredder by troy bilt. It has a 206cc Briggs and Stratton 850 series engine. I put something in it that was bigger than it was designed for causing the impeller to desintegrate. It came to a screeching halt. which cause the shredder to fall over on it's side. After removing the impeller the engine fired right up. I thought that maybe the engine might have had a twisted crank. Looking at the cost of parts and this machine is toast. I'm better off to buy a new one. To defray the cost I was hoping to sell the old motor that still runs excellent, but I have to remove the old bolt. I've come to the conclusion to use my angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the bolt flush with the snout of the crank and start using different size bits till I drill it out. In the event that I booger up the crank threads is using a Helicoil a viable repair knowing what it's intended use is going to be.
if you can, kindly make more videos on repairing zero turn transmissions and engines. people basically throw away their mowers because of those two problems. thank you in advance.
I am on it stay tuned
@@MowerMike yes sir
Rope trick is a clever idea, only problem with me is the fact ive got a ryobi 20in brushless electric. Dull blade can barely cut anymore and im working to get it replaced. It aint moving worth shit.
Just get a cheap battery powered impact wrench, will zip it right off
Can't get NO Leverage because bolt is under mower. So you have to laid down which hampers your grip
Just man up and get it done, keep using a larger wrench until you break it off
I was thinking more like a breaker bar and a block of wood against the blade and inside. Not brave enough to stick anything in the spark plug hole even though probably safe.
Good idea just watch your hands
Oookay!!!! I got mower deck that's hanging on ground . The plate that holds the deck up by one bolt on mower front frame is stuck. The 75 percent of plate is broke off but the other 25 is stuck behind that bolt which is STUCK!!!!!! Without that bolt out I can't re hook up deck to that mountjng frame
???? Not sure what you are looking for here.
It's the same bolt!!; ⚡ But I will try a larger and longer handle thanks
@@rodrickthompson2799 Best thing you can do is get a cheap battery powered impact wrench from Harbor Freight Tools. Will zip it right off. Good luck to ya I know how frustrating that can be and Happy New Year!
Get to the point.
What is the point Fozzie?
Not too bright. You locked the mower up in the wrong direction. Then expect us to believe you didn't have to stop the video to correct your mistake.First time watching your channel and probably the last.
You just lost a listener!! LOL
You can’t lock up the motor in the wrong direction when you do this. If you stop the piston from going up and down it is locked both ways.
This is the bright idea I have out of over 100 videos, be careful don’t watch any of my others or you may gag (especially the foam tire videos ;)
Thanks for all the great ideas. At what point would you heat the bolt with a propane torch? Also would it help to spray the bolt with wd 40 before you do anything? Yoy're great man.
Heat always helps just be careful not to blow yourself up. I would use PB blaster over WD. Good luck and be careful
@@MowerMike Thanks, I have read that heating the bolt is the last resort. I loosened mine with a 3 foot breaker bar.
