The history of Portugal dates back to prehistoric times, with evidence of human presence in the region as early as 30,000 years ago. The area that is now Portugal was inhabited by various Celtic tribes before being conquered by the Roman Empire in the 2nd century BC.
After the collapse of the Roman Empire, the region came under the control of the Visigoths, a Germanic tribe. However, in the 8th century, the Moors, Muslim forces from North Africa, invaded and occupied the Iberian Peninsula, including what is now Portugal. The Muslim rule lasted for over 400 years, with the Christian kingdoms in the north gradually pushing the Moors southwards.
In 1139, Portugal gained its independence from the Kingdom of León, becoming a separate kingdom under the rule of Afonso Henriques, who would become the first King of Portugal. Over the next few centuries, Portugal expanded its territory through a combination of military conquest and strategic alliances.
During the Age of Discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries, Portugal emerged as a global maritime power. Under the leadership of Prince Henry the Navigator, Portuguese sailors explored and established trade routes to Africa, Asia, and the Americas. This period marked the beginning of Portugal's colonial empire, with territories in Africa, Asia, and South America.
However, Portugal's dominance as a global power declined in the 17th century due to economic and political challenges. The country lost control of many of its colonies to other European powers, such as Spain, the Netherlands, and Britain. Portugal underwent several periods of political instability, including a revolution in 1910 that overthrew the monarchy and established a republic.
In the 20th century, Portugal experienced a dictatorial regime under Prime Minister António de Oliveira Salazar, who ruled from 1932 to 1968. Salazar's Estado Novo (New State) regime promoted a nationalist, authoritarian ideology and maintained close ties with other conservative regimes in Europe.
However, in 1974, a peaceful military coup known as the Carnation Revolution led to the overthrow of the dictatorship and the establishment of a democratic government. Portugal transitioned to democracy and became a member of the European Union in 1986.
Since the 1980s, Portugal has undergone significant economic and social transformations, including joining the eurozone and implementing structural reforms. Today, Portugal is a democratic country with a mixed economy and a member of various international organizations such as NATO and the United Nations.

Some things ate wrong in this video. There was 3 invasions in the Napoleon invasion against Portugal, the first one was on the east, where they did get occupied but then british came and helped us. The second one was at the north and failed. And the third one was again at the east but still failed. Another mistake was at the idependence of our colonies where they didn't kick us out but they got their idependence at the year 1974 at a revolution that turned Portugal again to a democracy and also gave the end of the war of Ultramar which gave the idependence of the colonies but with a treaty. Some took longer to take idependence, some took less, and at 2002 the Portuguese Empire ended.
Edits that I forgot to mention: Some of the portuguese troops went to Germany to help them at ww2.

You'll be surprised to learn that Portugal was indirectly involved in WW2 when around 150-300 portuguese volunters went to fight in the Soviet front along side Germany. From those volunters, only 21 died and the germans were baffled by our man. António de Spínola was a military observer, in other words, he was making sure the portuguese soldiers weren't being sent to their death
