  • I spent 5D4N in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, last week. I was supposed to be sketching but it was too much work to be sketching, filming and taking a vacation at the same time. So I took reference photos to sketch back in Singapore instead.

    Great video! I don't travel much so it's fun to "travel" with you in your videos. And what a lovely wife you have! Nice to see the family.

    I'm so nostalgic, I miss my country miserably ;;A;; I didn't even get to travel that much in Vietnam, I want to visit it so bad. The noodle is called "Bún Thịt Nướng" I think, and 3:53 is sticky rice, called "Xôi" I'm pretty sure that it is influenced by the Chinese, but ours are different. They have like different flavors with different color that dye from foods and vegetables (so colorful!!!) Also, the ball street food thing is meat balls, usually fish ball, shrimp ball, beef ball fried, they even have quail egg, etc. Vietnamese street foods is delicious, I need them 😂😂

    Do you find while you wander that you see everything from a "could I draw this?" or "do I want to draw this?" perspective? I would guess you have more reference photos than you'll ever actually use, too. Thank you for a fun tour and bringing us into your personal world and meeting your lovely wife. Someday, I hope you will do a tour of your home studio, if you haven't already. Would love to see how the whole video station set up is from your end. Cheers and always a treat. :)

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Před 7 lety +1

      Oh yes, I could draw everything. Using a camera is less fun.
      I don't actually have a home studio. I just shoot in my bedroom where I have a desk and on the other side is the wardrobe (commonly seen in most videos LOL) and bookshelves.

    Thanks for the tour and thanks for introducing your wife. Very beautiful! We have a large Vietnamese population in Orlando, Florida with a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. The noodle and chicken dish looks very familiar. we put fish sauce on it, which looked like what you were putting on your dish. I love the food served in the Vietnamese restaurants.

    Nice to meet your wife ! Your videos remember me my trip to Viet Nam with great pleasure, I loved this country. But it's true that it is difficult to film or photograph and to draw at the same time...And as we say in France : meilleur vœu de bonheur pour votre couple ! (best wish of happiness for your couple ).

  • @nainfalak
    @nainfalak Před 7 lety +3

    your wife is very nice. i pray you two be happy. i have question: what makes a place make it draw-able. That you think this is the scene that is good to draw.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Před 7 lety +4

      Thanks. It's difficult to determine what makes a place/scene good to draw. I typically go for place/scene that show dimension, e.g. where the elements overlap, or there's perspective. For example, two person standing side by side is less interesting than many people overlapping each other, e.g. at the train station. Also instead of drawing the front of buildings, I would usually move to the side so that I can see two sides of the wall instead of just the front.

    • @nainfalak
      @nainfalak Před 7 lety

      Teoh Yi Chie very helpful. So ur idea of two way perspective is also applicable to a street or a lake or restaurent. Thanx
