    5:42 Just for reference, a membrane keyboard should mean that it uses a floppy pressure-activated membrane in place of a PCB. This keyboard has a PCB, not a membrane. That silicone mat is more properly called rubber domes. Most cheapo generic keyboards use a combination of rubber domes and a membrane because it's the cheapest possible combination of technologies. This keyboard, however, is an example of electro-capacitive rubber domes, the most well-known example of which is Topre, which is definitely not a cheap keyboard technology, hence the price. EC rubber domes are far more refined in feel over your typical generic rubber dome keyboard, and are also far more durable.

    I feel like "scratchy" has such a negative connotation. In my opinion, these "scratches" add extra characteristics/sounds to the switch rather than a bad thing. For example, linear switche like the Novelkey Cream have this distinct scratch(sounds not feels - when lubed ofc). Instead of being a perfectly smooth and silent stroke represent by an empty clear sky, the extra sounds add a mid-profile represent by adding some clouds in the blue sky. This of course comes down to personal preference. "Scratchy" is not bad, please don't downplay characteristics of a product like Glarses did to the browns. Let the newcomer experience and learn what they like. Cream does sound like you're whipping cream foam.

    • @Jojifans
      @Jojifans Před 3 lety +2

      If you prefer completely smooth silent linear switch with nice thoccs, don't go to novel key cream switches videos/reviews or any simliar switches and say it's scratchy/trash. It's their signature.

      @Jojifans Před 3 lety +1

This looks super cool, and I knew it had to have been similar to topre because that very unique sound it has! Would love to see more custom keebs with different switch types. Also a super cool detail that this one is MX keycap compatible-that black-on-white set you used looks great and I bet the whole board would still look good with just that set alone!

    I have the niz micro 82. I added bke redux domes and topre silencing rings (shoutout to keyclack). One cool thing about the bke domes is that you can add different weights on different fingers. I like the heavy ones, but they're not too practical for pinkies. That's where the lights and ultra lights come in. I just got a couple sample packs of all four weights to round out my large order of heavies.
    In addition, the software for this keyboard is really easy to work with to customize different layouts. And you can switch between your custom layout and a standard layout on the fly by pressing function and delete. Pretty handy!

    I think it's a mistake to call this a membrane. It's an electro-capacitive rubber dome keyboard over a PCB. Whereas the membrane on a membrane keyboard is the sensing matrix, with the separate actuating conductor on the rubber domes. But I guess that's kinda just technical semantics. _Edit: looks like someone already pointed this out, sorry_
    I love the way the way NiZ switches sound. I definitely prefer it over the sound of Topre switches and that, combined with how relatively inexpensive NiZ keyboards are, I would take it over a Topre any day. Especially if I see myself in an office environment any time soon.
    Can't wait for more custom 3rd party cases and PCBs for NiZ. I think the platform has a lot of potential.

    Hello, I posted a comment on the 23$ keyboard video. Idk if you are going to see that comment, so I copied and pasted it here. (I have that same keyboard as the 23$ one. I am looking to upgraded it as well, but I am looking to put Gateron yellows in it. I don't know if they are compatible with this pcb, so I am wondering if you do. Also, what would be a good lube for the yellows, and should I get new stabilizers? If so do you have any budget recommendations?
