Amazing band, amazing songs, and the best lineup imho ;) Ted is a badass drummer
Ted gets lost a bit when people discuss the history of the DKs and/or the best punk drummers ever.
I commented on him above and, totally agree with you. He was a tremendous player. Listen to the live version of "Ill in the Head" from this gig and, hone in on the amazing technical skills that both Ted and Klaus are laying down...6025 was composing crazy avant and odd little songs...
That song in particular is a great example of how underrated that Ted is
i bough it on cd. cause its fakin great album. paper case
Very amazing snare and drum sound from old dead kennedys drummer,ted..one of the thousand best drummer in the world..and dont forget to 6025,one of the first old dead kennedys 5 line up..dead kennedys, one of the pioneer and great hardcore punk all over the world..holiday in cambodia and police truck is great dead kennedys song of all time..salute..
The performance was unique in that this was the last time their rhythm guitarist 6025 performed with them. It also includes original drummer Ted, later replaced in February 1981 by D.H. Peligro. Also, the song "Gaslight" and their covers of "Back in the U.S.S.R." and "Have I the Right" are not found on any other DK album (The Deaf Club recordings of "Shorts Songs" and "Straight A's" are featured on the compilation album Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death and the hard-to-find Can You Hear Me? Live at the Deaf Club along with "Police Truck"). "Back in Rhodesia" is an early version of "When Ya Get Drafted" with a different chorus than the final version. "Kill the Poor" is also a "disco" version minus the introduction.
6025 was on it too and Ill in the Head too. I never heard them do that song live before.
I saw them live twice with Ted and twice with Darren. Darren is a multi-talented guy who may even be a better guitarist than drummer...but, is a great drummer and, likely much better than Ted...that said...I am a HUMONGOUS TED FAN...he has a very meat and potatoes approach to the drums but - he had an amazing ability to push the band and, to inject a sense of swing to the songs and/or bring some nuanced touches of tribal tom playing or, a more military style snare when required and, his jazzy kick-snare-hi hat work is really great when he locks into EB Ray's Echoplex surf/rockabilly licks.
He also had the ability to play/compose parts for the 6025 songs...which are not as simple as they sound
He’s on the 1978 demos as far as I know. There is also a radio broadcast soundboard recording somewhere on YT that features his playing, though a little less fantastically.
Some of the best versions of their songs are on this release. The second distorted and delayed guitar from 6025 add a whole new live element to Cambodia that fits the hopelessness quite well.
@Bud Hull - totally agree with you on all points. 6025 was like Trout Mask Replica crossed with Pere Ubu, The Screamers and, maybe The early Weirdos. Some Robert Quine in there too!
His bizarro "free jazz" caterwauling art-damaged and, SEEMINGLY simplistic...yet complex songwriting/arrangemens (the basslines necessary to compliment his arrangement on Forward to Death!!!) are nuts!
Going on to play with Snakefinger was more suited to his musical mindset IMO. Also, gave Ray more leeway with the Syd Barratt echo sounds and, an ability to successfully introduce his rockabilly chops and, his use of space to great effect.
It is incredible to have these important historical documents of the 5-piece band though. Especially the live black and white gig filmed (6025's final gig?)
Klaus Flouride is an excellent bassist too. He played in an experimental band out of Boston (?) with Billy Squire in the late 60s too!!
Ray and Klaus were very experienced musicians from the get-go. 6025 may not have been as experienced...but he was a great deal more than a "stand in drummer" for the band's first press kit photo that Dirksen requested...
Cheers
@@dougsmith7083 hello again. I remember reading (or hearing?) that a big reason for 6025’s departure was his desire to make the band more of an experimental force, outside of the DK’s preference for doing so within their boundaries of “punk” (which was pretty experimental in its own way compared to countless other bands). I’ve always admired his less-is-more approach to being a second guitar, whether it’s the dissonance of a delayed chord underneath what Ray is doing, or just somehow contributing a spacious noise that literally allowed Ray to make the solos/breaks in songs like Cambodia soar further into the lyrical subject’s nether region. I love it.
That black and white video you mentioned has another incredible, possibly even longer solo/bridge portion of Cambodia that I can rewatch endlessly.
I’ve heard that much of anything remotely current with 6025 isn’t so good, but it sounds like we both agree his contributions were an integral part of their early band’s sound, even if they eventually shifted slightly elsewhere.

@@buddhull No problem!
Oh yeah, there’s also a performance of “Straight A’s” from the Mabuhay Gardens added in at the end of the Sproul Plaza video.

Live at the Deaf Club is a live album released by the Dead Kennedys in 2004 and had a limited edition re-release 2013 in the UK on Let Them Eat Vinyl . The actual performance took place at the San Francisco Deaf Club on March 3, 1979

ALTERA HISTORIA DU ROCK
In my opinion one ov their greatest concert..
Love the versions of the songs on this album. They actually sound good with good headphones which is amazing for dead kennedys
Thanks for posting this. It's cool to hear some lesser known tracks like "Gaslight," and early version of "Drafted."
@ Riley Haley - I've never been able to find them. This tune was never on any studio album, and I once tried a Google search (as I'm sure you did) to no avail.
Potentissimo!
Ted is fantastic drummer
wow thanks
Great recording!
Should of have had 6025 on 'Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables'!
I like the 2 guitar DK sound. 6025 was ready to invent Alternative music but the Tentacles weren't ready for that yet.
The DK's cover The Honeycombs Have I The Right? Never thought I'd see the day - explains the DKs melodic edge though - British Invasion 60s stuff
Think I will get this on wax
6025!!!
7 people are back in the ussr
PureLollery approves of this album.
miss 6025 I wonder what ever happened to him.
It's funny how the dude that introduces the Dead Kennedys says that there is more to America than Los Angeles and Fleetwood Mac. The irony is the the LA band Germs played at this show. The Germs were the band that recorded the first Hardcore Punk album.
The irony is that the dude is Johnny Walker, former pirate radio dj who now presents Sounds of the 70s on BBC Radio 2 which is pretty much wall-to-wall Fleetwood Mac.
What year was this? This kicks ass
Jello would be utterly pissed if he knew an advertisement for National University or any bogus, online, private school were being commercialized during the breaks. Hell, he wouldn’t reunite with the band because they disagreed on allowing Levi’s the rights to a song. Especially when Betsy Devos (current nominal secretary of education: a principal proudly wearing a dunce cap) owns several private universities. Ads are nearly always annoying but the ones provided by private universities are a real insult to anyone’s intelligence.
As I’m sure many old fans have realized, the relevance of their lyrical content is as pertinent today as it was when it began in 78. In 1983, this was literally mind blowing for a tiny town, eleven year old stuck in WV. Like many have said before me, “punk rock has been good to me!’ Thanks for sharing
list the personel, we care a lot. creditations...
