WHISTLE entangles Baby Seal

  • Strange entanglement of the week! While inspecting seal pups at Pelican Point, Naude and Antoine found this large mother seal lying on the beach. They saw a big cut on her chest and a blue object attached. After studying it with binoculars, they realised it was a whistle of all things!
There were no newborn pups around, so they decided to try and free her. Denzil managed to secure her in the net, and they cut the string holding the whistle on her back. They then had to roll her over and work through the bottom zipper, as they were sure there would be knots on the string, and did not want to pull it through the wound.
She was released looking much more energetic than she did before they found her.
The blue whistle has Russian writing on it. They first assumed that it was a life-jacket whiste, but these are usually flat. It probably came from a sports game on board a ship.... who knows?? 🦭

Peglegjim: So ask your physician about Gabapentin. It is a normal option for chronic pain in the USA. The dose required for older people is very small, and it is a generic drug that is not as expensive. It is NOT a narcotic. It does NOT improve the medical condition. It turns off the pain in the brain nerves.
I had it first prescribed for me by George Washington University Medical staff, and within 20 minutes it turned off 80% of the pain I had felt for 6 years. I used it for almost 10 years.
Monitor for it changing your mood. After long term use, Gabapentin reduced my ability to enjoy nature.
I stopped taking it when I was no longer able to enjoy seeing flowers. The physicians speculated that I might need to increase the dose then, but I did not want heavier medication. We then picked another pill to try, and it worked fine for nerve pain.
Physicians like Gabapentin, so ask and see what yours say. Maybe next week you can be pain free.

Black Sunshine: Oh? Do we really believe there is no dart syringe in each fanny pack to stop a bull seal from mauling one of them?
I certainly expect them to have that safety equipment.
But you will have noticed that these seals are defensive creatures.
Even the bull seals run for the water almost as soon as freed.
These seals aren't idiots. They see the big ships people have and the land vehicles.
The bull seals also see that the team men are not looking for seal harems.
The team members take fine care to avoid human/seal misunderstandings that could lead to peril. It would be different if the seals ever saw the team slaughter and BBQ any seal.

This definitely more of a ??? moment, and a small double-take when she heard a lower seal tone coming from the not-seal beast that sat on her.
Not gratitude (tho I like to think so), but very much "wtf???" calculations meme.

The untold danger of employing seals as lifeguards!

  • @maramakesjournals2319

Denzil has a healthy respect for the pointy end of a seal. Good! Bigger seal = bigger teeth. Good rescue. You tried to be gentle. I ❤️ that!

The feeling of releasing a seal knowing it has a chance to heal must never get old. Sad there are so many but you make a difference in so many lives.

A very nasty injury, and hopefully she heals quickly, with the help of the salt water from the ocean. After being released, she turned to say thanks before going into the water. Thank you for being there for the seals👍👍
