    In the show the boarding ramp is located on the rotating wing (first episode when ahsoka jumps on the shuttle while its flying shows this best + the hangar in the scene after), and I think that the side door acts like an airlock and locks to the wing allowing people to get to the ramp, which means for your model a fake ramp could be the best way to go, allowing you to have both the landing gear and ramp. Also I get what you mean by the landing gear and ramp taking up the same area, the landing gear well looks as though its right behind the side airlock door

    Could imagine the next challenge with the wings being that the hook on point is very much toward the front and the wings go a long way back, so that extra weight might make them sloop towards the back. Besides thinning out the back part as much as possible, could be some some balancing regained by putting more weight into the front of the wings, fill up extra empty space with plates or something to make it dense.
    Anyway, I really enjoy this series, seeing the whole journey adds another dimension to when we get to build the finished design. Again a build to look forward to!

    • @2bricks
      @2bricks  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Thank you!!! Yeah I’m somewhat concerned about the back end weight but that’s one of the reasons I made the area immediately behind the collar so very dense - it needs that support to prevent sagging!

    The side doors are actually also used in conjunction with the ramp, when the ship is landed and the wing is in horizontal position. The ramp extends from the wing itself and lines up with the left side door, so the side doors should definitely be able to open up. Just a tip :)

    I maybe have an Idea for the table/seats, that I have not really thought through though. So, maybe you can use a long brick/plate/axle that gets pushed from back to front and hits the seats/table in a way that they go up one after the other. So the seats and the table would have some 90deg angle on the bottom, so that they get pushed up when hit by the moving element.

The one stud thick trench is the standart, we are used to it, but it just doesn't work as well, it looks a bit cartoonish and out of proportion (in my humble opinion). Other than that, great ship!

    Cool work so far. I really enjoyed watching you demonstrate the Stinger Mantis ship from Jedi Survivor, my favorite game of 2023. I want to build that one someday.
    Some constructive feedback: I noticed that the red tiles look a bit odd since they're all going the same direction. (Initially, I was going to suggest making them go diagonally, but I think that would actually be 10x more work and also wrong in general). I think the reason it looks so strange is because, the red is supposed to be a decal, and the way you have it constructed here makes it look like a protruding piece. Shouldn't it be flush in order to give the illusion that it's a painted on decal?
    Also, it's a shame that the Ahsoka series sucked as much as it did. Truly an awful series. They picked the right actress for Ahsoka, but I really didn't like that series as a whole.
    Speaking of which, I think it would be awesome if you branched out into non star wars territory and made a ship from a different franchise. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but if I do, I'll be sure to get back to you with ideas.
    Keep up the awesome work, and I look forward to purchasing your PDF instruction manual for the Stinger Mantis. I haven't done so yet because I'm poor, atm. :(

  • @DrTheRich

    The star wars design of this ship seems so silly to me. The wings are very thick, take up a lot of profile and weight (making it vulnerable and sluggish), but what is that space used for? The engine's aren't in there, it holds no guns, no missile tubes. But it's not thick enough to hold any human presence or cargo hold.
    It has no aerodynamic shape for use in atmosphere.
    Its kinda just there.
    You could take them off and it would literally change nothing about the capability of the ship, besides making it lighter and harder to hit.
    Most star wars ship designs have some justification for their shape, even in hindsight, even if it's impractical. This one has none. It's just there because they wanted a ship with a spiny thing...
    All the other ships of the same in universe makers have justifications: the B wing has guns on the tips, and had a death star like weapon. MG100 bomber holds bombs in the underside wing, the v19Torrent holds guns on the end and an engine below. And with most of these, the wings are as thin as possible when they don't hold anything useful inside.
    And to be fair, the clone wars version of the ship had a lot thinner wings, it became even more nonsensical in the Ashoka show.

    • @forrestpenrod2294
      @forrestpenrod2294 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Its a long distance kind of ship so they probably are for any number of things:
      -Stowage - I think you're seriously underestimating how much can be stored in much tighter spaces - look at WW2 tanks and planes and boats. Heck I know of a Submarine that stored all of the parts for a motorcycle they would gather up to zoom around in between missions. This is a ship for JEDI, they don't need to reach stuff with their arms as long as there is an open pathway they can pull objects with the force.
      -Fuel, air, water (coolant and potable), and other fluid storage.
      -Power reserves such as batteries.
      -Heat Radiators.
      -Machinery for recycling or purifying or irradiating.
      -Dispersed shield systems - we see in the show how strong the shields are.
      -Aerodynamic stability - they seem to go into atmospheres all the time.

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Před 2 měsíci

      @@forrestpenrod2294 -Fuel, air, water (coolant and potable), and other fluids.
      -Heat Radiators.
      many ships in star wars exist with the same capability in a significant smaller package. so you're saying this ship runs on technology from before the old republic?? (like if you were to use a room sized IBM computer as pc in a time of micro chips)
      not to mention of the added complexity of having to transfer all of these through a rotating assembly for no added benefit from just adding a bit more volume to the ship itself.
      Stowage: making the space flat and elongated hugely limits in what you can actually store in there. Not to mention you can only get to it from the outside.
      Traversing the galaxy in star wars does at most take a couple of days in hyperspace. So no need to outfit a ship designed for diplomatic missions with resources to survive 2 years or more
      Non of the things you mention makes it not the worst ship design in star wars, going by in universe rules...

    • @glitchii_uwu
      @glitchii_uwu Před 2 měsíci

      the wings very likely hold fuel, oxygen, and water. with that in mind, thicker wings make more sense because you'd want as much storage as possible.

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Před 2 měsíci

      @@glitchii_uwu Except for the fact that it makes no space to make that space wing shaped, as i said in my comment before.
      Airplanes put fuel in the wings because the wings are needed anyway. If airplanes didn't need wings they wouldn't add them just for fuel storage. it's just ridiculous.
      Besides, these amenities don't need a lot of space in the star wars universe. Fuel is incredibly energy dense, oxygen can be compressed, and you don't need that much excess water as it can be recycled.
      Also reducing weight is the best way to reduce fuel consumption.
      Not to mention that other ships in the star wars universe seems to need massive thick wings...
      You don't want as much storage as possible, you want as much storage as necessary. Otherwise why wouldn't everyone be flying around in a Lucrehulk space freighter??
      So according to in universe logic, how shoddy it sometimes is, it still makes no sense.

    • @2bricks
      @2bricks  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I think it is mostly just rule of cool, but also having the Jedi ships be grandiose and a bit impractical kind of goes with where we find the order in the prequels - they’re a bit too pompous for their own good, and not really sure of the reasons why they do what they do anymore. Also yeh, fuel, storage and other things could be made to work in the wings from a practical standpoint
