I too owned the earlier volumes and your thoughts about the books pretty much match my own. Back in the 90s it was so exciting to own these books, because those were the days when we had more intimate relationships with books: You'd buy a book and read it over and over because there wasn't a whole lot else to do.
It was also the days when we just did not have information available at out fingertips. Yes, you could go online and read the ASCII episode capsules on newsgroups, but books like this were by far a whole lot prettier and friendlier.
Plus, in those days, if something was printed in a book, it felt more important, and more like something you'd treasure your whole life. That has changed, and books now seem to have less value simply by the fact that they're _not_ connected to the internet and _not_ being constantly updated. So a book about an ongoing TV show feels especially 'out of touch'.
Incidentally, I never forgot Matt Graining's intro to the second book, and it's the first thing I thought of when I heard they'd released The Simpsons World: that this was exactly what he promised not to do. However, this is forgivable in light of the fact that all the episodes for the first 10 seasons have been re-done and "doubled" in size, so I think that justifies it being re-released. I can also appreciate that they wanted to offer everything in hardback - looking back, those early volumes seem a little flimsy being paperback.
So thanks for this review. It was nice to look back on these books I once owned. The only mystery is: why are you whispering? Frankly, I didn't like the whispering and I nearly switched it off at first, but I kept going as I was interested in the books.

I own a fairly beat up copy of the first book, purchased it as a declassified library book. Great read

this is an excellent video, congratulations! About the first guide I think is great but the new is too big, maybe in two volumes could be more manage. Regards.

I had the first two or three as a kid but only the original survived various moves and storage over the years. I just found it and have been thumbing through it. I get more from the DVD commentaries than from this. The Simpsons World is still a really nice looking collection. It seems to be a little better in price for used copies.

I wasn't a real fan. I did like Itchy & Scratchy (thx youtube). I bought the softcover's this year. I bought the Springfield book many years ago.

I don't know about you, but I buy books to enjoy them. Not to bury them away for years and then try to scalp fans who originally missed out and also just want to enjoy them.

Most idiotic question I've seen in weeks. Go "collect" some Funkos if you like things sealed.
