During this trip I really wanted to document more personal moments rather than purely visuals.. I carried around a cybershot digicam and in tandem with my mirrorless camera I'm really excited to share this adventure. Part two will be dropping in a week, I spent the second week of my trip exploring Kyoto and Osaka with my new friend Ken. As always thank you to anyone reading this and supporting my videos, I love you and I hope you get out there and create something too. ❤❤
Good to have you back JR! The football portion of this experience captured the very essence of nostalgia and my childhood growing up playing Fifa, and it was such a perfectly captured atmosphere! Amazing to see you creating as always and thank you for the amazing journey and experience you took me through in this video!
thank you so much for your kind comment bro. And yes, we grow and evolve, I still will try to fit those transitions in when i can, but only when it makes sense. I am trying my best to become a student to the craft when it comes to things that are just as important in filmmaking: color, lighting, storytelling and pacing which i still have lots to learn from!
Another video showing why JR is the GOAT. Love it Bro. Also, did you need to obtain licensing for some of the tracks you used like "Love me Again" etc.?
i remember watching japanese dream years ago and being blown away. i just went to japan on a solo trip in june, having gone already this year in february. loved this sm!
Top notch for capturing and color grading like cyber punk but contrasting that with the tranquil. Was a pleasure to watch and see how you captured Tokyo
thank you bro!! and im game, I was meaning on coming this summer to feel the atmosphere in Europe with the Euros, but maybe I'll aim for this fall. 🙏🏾 hope all is well
Thank you so much Peter, I actually had just as much fun filming and editing it too.. It pushed me out of my comfort zone to film moments not just visuals which i would have otherwise never filmed. I definitely would love to revisit a similar format in the future :)
beautiful. I was in Japan the same time for my 2nd trip. We really got lucky with those delayed cherry blossoms. Really glad I got to witness their entire lifecycle over the 2.5 weeks I was there!
it was so magical, i always thought it was just a touristy thing to do, then i realized that Japanese people really love to go to the parks too. I had a local park by my acoomadation which was just outside the city and the weekend was such a great atmosphere, people were bbqing and playing sports, im really happy i got to witness it aswell. Thank you so much for your comment :D
Is there a name for the style of editing you use? The cuts and effects and everything are perfect. I was watching this and thinking that I never realized how much of an influence you have been to me.
i appreciate the support, even still checking out my work after all the years, you are a real one. Honestly, i think intuition kicks in now, trusting the feeling in the edit. Sometimes 5:24 moments happen, where you see a way to connect a change in scenes, then the hard part is finessing the edit so it works. People tend to even overlook hard cuts, i've been learning to let a shot run alittle longer sometimes depending on how much emphasis i need to build tension
@@JRAlli man you're my inspiration from the beginning of my youtube career, specially The "New York city- don't blink" its kind of my taste and im still trying to make something epic like that.
I found the original track weeks before i visited and the music video was really beautifully. I just had to incorporate a version of the iconic song in this somehow, glad you liked it :D
Another stunning video ❤ The world is epic, so much beautiful places on incredible little rock lol My only criticism with Asia is the very poor cultural appropriation they always do, like those chants in the stadium, but it's life nothing is perfect lol Have a great week ahead and keep traveling 🔥🚀
crazy when you think about it right? you get hit with the realization that this is just a glimpse into someone elses everyday life. Also FC Tokyo slogan is "you never walk alone" which is taken from Liverpool, I like to see it as more of paying homage maybe.. idk. regardless thank you for watching!
i just googled him, i honestly had no idea he played for Kashima, he helped them reach top Japan leagues through promotions and theres even a statue of him outside their stadium. Legendary status
this is a great question, I would love to dedicate a whole video to do, especially because I've minimized/down sized my gear and even the amount of things i bring on trips.
@@JRAlli thank you because I'm travelling in a week and I really don't want to bring more than I need but man its so tempting :'( thank you for sharing your joy with us! I'd just like to know what is essential, and what do you no longer bring because like do you need a gimbal etc. but then I love how it looks for that one shot but then I'm stuck carrying it XD
@@LouisLuzuka it depends on how you want to shoot your video. If you want your shots to be more movement than its definitely necessary, its really hard to capture gimbal style shots handheld even with camera stabilization. For example i didnt bring a gimbal on this trip because i knew i wanted to capture more compositions and use static shots which would match the chill vibes that japan has. i brought an action camera with a long monopod however so i could capture establishing shots if i need to and because of that i didnt need to bring the gimbal because of the amazing stabilization of the camera. Those are the shots that you can see during the shibuya segment high angled above the crossing. hope that helps and i hope you have an amazing trip!
thank you! I started using Da Vinci a few months now, i usually edit everything in AE and now Im grading the project in Da Vinci, its been game changer.
I usually love your videos but did you get a new camera? There is so much grain everywhere it seems like much worse quality than your previous videos. Love your edits. Keep killing it man.
yeah i bought the same camera i had growing up, a jvc camcorder and i also used a digicam (sony cybershot). If you follow throughout the video you'll clearly see the mix between this footage and my dslr. I didnt get a new camera, i got an old one. Growing up, idk about other people but me and my family would bring these cameras on trips to document life, I wanted to bring that back to this video. I could have easily just used all my dslr footage.. but then my video will be like the other 1000 videos on youtube that you can find if you search "japan cinematic video". travelling is suppose to be fun, so thats my vision for this video. If you don't like it, no problem i totally understand, its not for everyone.
@@JRAlli oh no I still like it. Its just context that I didn't understand at first. And you are right to stand out in different ways. Glad you are trying new angles of perspective. Thanks for the insight.👍🏼📽️

Love this film, such a refreshing and authentic style. The color and shots are so good
Some of the best editing I’ve seen in a travel video. The music choices and cinematics were amazing
