    didnt they take LZ landing class? Everyone Knows you Dont Ever use Flares at the LZ. Watch what happens to it when the Helo Lands

      davidgriffin14 If the van were truly endangered, I think one of the firefighters would have done something about it, if for no other reason than to have something to do rather than stand around being bored while the medics were doing their thing. The flare is there for a very specific purpose, to remind the pilot that there is a potential obstruction near his tail rotors.

      @@tobycameron317 if you train with a medical helicopter crew, they tell you do not use flares. Their bosses get mad when you burn UK a helicopter.

    i live in a small community in Nevada if we are too sick or injured to go byground over an hour to the las Vegas hospital we go by helicopter i have gone 2 x saved my life in the 31 years i have been here we have lost 2 crews and 3 helicopters as a result of crashes mercy air is the operator

    dont use flares use the big red trucks to mark hazzards and use cones and lights to mark LZ ... its not rocket science.
