In a remarkable engineering feat, Indian Railways continues its relentless efforts in constructing a 111-kilometer-long rail route connecting Katra and Banihal. This ambitious project navigates through the towering peaks and deep valleys of the Himalayas, featuring a substantial network of 38 rail tunnels along the way. While most of the tunnel work is approaching completion, the current focus remains on the ongoing excavation of rail tunnel T1 (Now T33), situated near Katra, with 82 meters of digging yet to be accomplished. To accelerate progress, work is now being conducted round the clock in this specific section, which traverses the challenging terrain of the Himalayan Main Boundary Thrust, demanding meticulous excavation procedures. #usbrl #USBRLTunnelT1 #katrabanihalrailwayproject

Really today on seeing actual work sites one can imagine how difficult it is to excavate in such conditions. Hats off to the workers and engineers who are relentlessly doing this work in a hope to finally do it one day
It will take another 5-6 months for completing this tunnel which means around Mar 2024 .
I hope necessay precautions are taken care to avoid rusting and corrosion of the steel frame being installed on this highly critical 382 m MBT zone. After few years this steel frame may get damaged and there may be major mishap.
