    Highly impressed, though my electrical is actually a little less than that in the same region due to having a small size bungalow.

    that is such a big house for just 2 people. what a waste of material and energy inspite of his energy saving strategies. It is sitll a location far from everything where you need to use aCAR to get round.

    My dad did this in 2008. This isn't anything new. My childhood home in Evanston is the exact same way. It's really not that hard. If he ever needs an actual electrician for cheap, he could give my dad a call.

    I have zero skills to do this but had a similar idea, witha smallerhouse. The thing is not a contractor out there builds like this. If you buy land where I am you have to choose from certain available house plans. Outside the box is not an option without paying way more than I can.

    Our home was built in 1968, 3100sq ft, 2X4 R13 walls. We have a boiler with baseboard hydronic heating, no central AC. We have a gas stove, dryer and hot water heater. Our house is surrounded by a lot of plants and trees. Because of high gasoline prices we have a Chevy Volt, plug-in hybrid as a daily driver. Our electric bill averages $89/month. Our gas bill averages $100/ month. Solar panels are a waste, both financially and environmentally speaking. Until battery technology improves, electric cars will be an albatross for most people as they try to keep them charged.

    If everyone did this, they would find a way to tax us on that energy raining from the sky.

  • @albeit1
    @albeit1 Před 2 lety +1

    He REBUILT the house. That’s MORE than just the construction costs, because the original house ceases to exist.
