    I once had a panic attack while diving, and it was genuinely the most terrifying experience of my life. You can't just go back up to the surface if something goes wrong, ascent must be done slowly and with (often several) minutes long decompression stops along the way. So it feels pretty helpless when you think something is wrong.
    That said, it can be practiced pretty safely when the safety rules are properly learned and followed. That poor diver who drowned at the Blue Hole was honestly beyond reckless. I can empathize with how terrifying his last moments had to be... but man, nothing he did was remotely normal or safe diving procedures. Unfortunately, Hasan, this guy attempting an extremely difficult dive does not reflect his experience as a diver. Most divers deaths happen when people skirt safety rules and/or attempt dives well beyond their abilities/experience. There is no way this dive, being done the way he did (and with the equipment he brought) could have resulted in him not dying...

    I saw a documentary about the Blue Hole, in which experts argue that it is so dangerous, because in your nitrogen narcosis, the light at the other side of the arch looks like up, so you try to go up, and up, but you are swimming sideways at the same depth.
    And once you reach the other side, if you have taken too long (which is very common), you run out of air, and you die in the real ascension.
    This is why the Blue Hole has claimed so many lives, and I mean, a number of professional divers.

    • @hasanabiclips2428
      @hasanabiclips2428 Před rokem +9

      One of the potential dangers associated with the Blue Hole, as you mentioned, is nitrogen narcosis. Nitrogen narcosis is a condition that can occur when diving at deeper depths, where increased pressure affects the body's response to nitrogen. It can lead to symptoms similar to alcohol intoxication, including impaired judgment and disorientation.
      The specific scenario you described, where divers may mistake the light at the other side of the arch for the surface and swim upwards, is a phenomenon known as "the arch effect." This can be a disorienting experience for divers and can potentially lead to dangerous situations if they ascend without proper control or awareness of their depth.
      Additionally, the Blue Hole is a deep dive site, reaching depths of over 400 feet (120 meters). Extended or improper dives can result in the depletion of air supply and pose a risk of running out of air during the ascent, which is a critical phase of the dive.
      It's important to note that diving in the Blue Hole, or any challenging dive site, requires experience, proper training, and adherence to safety guidelines. Divers should be aware of their limits, dive within their certification level, and take necessary precautions to mitigate risks.

    The water was pulling in my dad, who was brought to his knees by its power. I was free, standing where the water receded, but I naively tried to help before a wave swept us in. My dad recalls opening his eyes and fighting against the current as he held onto me. There were large rocks in the ocean that tourist would pose for pictures or hang out on, but those moments were long gone as we were about to be slammed into them.
    Instead, we impacted sand like an object thrown and I could feel my body tumble under the surface. I had my eyes shut, but awake the whole time and felt safe when hands were pulling us to shore and freshwater was poured onto my eyes.

    This is because the sub would need to be closer to a perfect sphere to maximize efficiency. But the same time, the higher the risk of being straight up killed because you bumped into something increases.

And pools feel like a second home(my grandma was a swim instructor) But I don't do it very often, because of a very shallow reason. My hair is coarse and dry. I have tried swim caps, and it still gets in. I just don't want to have to wash my hair that often. It takes forever to dry, and washing it too often makes it completely unmanageable. So I don't do a thing I love swimming, cause swimming is just too inconvenient.
