For the two Princess cruises we took in June and July, even though we had selected the earliest boarding time, it didn’t make any difference when we arrived at the ports (Vancouver and LA/San Pedro). Both times we were green lane, and that’s where we went with everyone else. Elite and Platinum were sent to wait in a separate area and boarded first, then the rest by groups based upon when you arrived. We were there early, so we boarded early. No one looked at our preselected time. We did get on quickly, regardless. It will be an issue if you need to get your medallion at the port, but frankly, that seemed to go swiftly, as well. And even last December out of San Pedro, no one checked our arrival time. We just got on based upon when we got there.

Our experience with Princess convinces me that it will make no difference. Problems that occur will remain unsolved, and those problems will be blamed on YOU, even when it was THEIR error. Special needs, diet, room conditions, will not be prepared for and YOU will need to try to resolve issues that they were informed of at time of booking. These problems will NOT be resolved by THEM and your cruise will become days of dealing with the front desk and only having incremental steps, maybe they will even show empathy, but they will do nothing. THEY told us (through our cruise agent) "there are a lot of cruisers out there, WE don't have to solve problems". WE will NEVER CRUISE PRINCESS AGAIN.

We changed our 1130am boarding time to 130pm for a recent cruise, best thing that we’ve ever done regarding embarkation, no queues at Medallion pick up and security and as we boarded the announcement that the access to the cabins was now allowed. Much more civilised than the scrum to get in early just so you can access the buffet.

I'm on a December cruise out of Fort Lauderdale and a Canadian living in Toronto. I have done all the required online check in and I am happy to see that I am GREEN LANE and it very clearly tells me that my medallion will be there waiting for me. They only mail it out in the USA . Booked at the beginning of July and already by the end of July apparently all set. Hope it works out as planned

I'm an Australian, booked on a 28 day trip in Oct. Have completed check in. Green lane. THAT WAS LAST WEEK! Checked booking this morning, now blue lane, check in not complete. Please pay for your medallion. (And lanyard.) This is our 9th cruise and we have many lanyards so just paid $5.00 ea. for the medallion. Check in still not completed. After watching this video it seems if you don't have your medallion posted to you, Blue lane it is. In Oz. You cannot get it in the mail, Reason I checked today, I asked for a wheel chair 7 days ago as I cannot stand for very long before I need to sit down. Not assigned to the assistance lane. This will be my final cruise with Princess. As for check in times, on our cruise last June, they had people checking book in times on passenger passes, at least 50% were there over an hour early. Queue jumpers. It will only get worse now.

@@rosssmith6205 DAMN IT ! ! You prompted me to check and guess what, BLUE LANE, now . This is my very first cruise and with all the confusion and poor treatment of fare paying passengers I am seriously wondering if this is gonna be a one and done deal. Busy, like getting so many people through that tiny little door is one thing. Inefficiency when the company does this very same thing several thousand times a year and still can not seem to get it right is a whole different situation. It better not be a bad as it appears that it may be

@@paulbunion6233 Glad I'm not the only one. I deal directly with a Princess advisor. Normally if I email her, she rings me within an hour or 2. Sent her an email yesterday, (Sunday), I allowed for that and expected a call today. Nothing. CZcams is blowing up about Princess. Did they hire the marketing team from Bud Light that used Dylan Mulvaney for their promotion campaign? It seems loyal cruisers are no longer needed on Princess ships. Oct. will be my last Princess cruise.

We are sailing Princess on 08/05, Green Lane. We will show up later anyway, as with the transfers from LAX, we probably won't get there till noon at the eariliest. (Flying in the day before, spending the night at LAX hotel with shutlle, then shuttling back to LAX and then taking the Princess transfers from LAX). We also prefer to arrive a little later so we can go straight to our cabin and drop the carryons instead of dealing with them during lunch.

Well, that's great news. I believe they implemented the schedule check in time because of covid and rules they had to follow. It won't make much difference to us. We will still have to wait to board the ship. Thanks for sharing!

Why did I keep going Princess to get Platinum and working on Elite if anyone has the option of getting on ship before me. Yes I will be there early but as stated in video - hundreds will be early and I will get no privilege for being a loyal customer over the years.

  • @farab4391

As you and a lot of other people have said, people just don't turn up when they say they will turn up, so what's the point. Not always on purpose, because when you're travelling (flying, driving, etc.) you can't always estimate your arrival at the ship within an hour time slot. So, in short, there will be long queues, but depending on when you arrived, you would've had those anyway. What I'm more surprised about is that they don't give you the option to pay more money for priority boarding and by that I mean boarding quicker, getting your luggage to the cabin quicker and being able to get into your cabin sooner. They must be able to do this with at least a 5th of cabins, so let people pay some extra and let them in 🙂

The big issue is booking Sanctuary as it is not available to book on-line and it is first-come, first-served. We are Elite and used to be able to get on early (and assume that has gone the way of the dodo as well). . . Oh, well. I will save money. And it’s still a cruise!

Princess probably realized that people were going to show up and want to get on as early as possible anyway regardless of their assigned time. They probably did analyze data before coming to that decision. For the people who fly in the same day, they will probably get on board in the later hours because they don't have a choice. I used to fly in the same day and never missed a sailing. I wouldn't do it now with how many flights are cancelled and delayed, but some people remain brave and do fly in the same day. yikes.

The last 3 times I boarded in San Francisco they did not look at or pay attention to the boarding times. It was the longest lines ever and I had everything entered for the green lane. A big mess and Elite no longer matters. Princess is getting worse with every "new improvement".

  • @tivitom

It won't be faster as everyone likes to go onboard as early as possible. Besides it is a discrimination of all guests coming from outside the US as the Medallion is shipped only within the United States.

This favours usa guests over any other nationality, this system is not fair at all, I'm in uk snd have no option of delivery, so this will mean nearly all guests from uk will be in blue causing lines, my last cruise had 800 usa guests and 2200 other mostly uk, this will cause mayhem unless from us ports.
