That shade only makes Mariah look jealous and bitter (she even included it in her memoir 💀). That was Diva's Live, not Aretha and the backup singers live. And Aretha herself kept asking someone to help her lift the song and she thoroughly enjoyed Celine's effort, she even asked Celine to sing at her tribute later whereas Mariah wasn't invited, ouch. Mariah was vocally not in shape that night and was pressed Celine shone brighter than her. It was totally appropriate to showcase your voice in that context (IF you had the chops, which Celine had, but Mariah didn't have).

Mariah actually came for her but she was damn right! I love them both but Celine kind of overreacted with all that singing for some reason! I don't want to be thinking she tried to prove she is the best diva but unfortunately this is how it seemed to some people including myself!
Plus, Aretha Franklin was Mariah's influence, namely one of her idols, and she went fast to stand for her! That's why she said Celine was disrespectful to the queen of soul and she's right!

@@garyhollander1 your irony is unnecessary! I might be a lamb but I'm a huge fan of Celine as well! I did some digging yesterday and I know what happened. The fact that I love Mariah doesn't mean I'll be always supporting her while she's wrong but I can get her frustration. She is not a saint, that's for sure, but she's a human being and has emotions like everyone else, so it's reasonable she got jealous of Celine's vocal. I mean Celine's voice is powerful and beautiful until today! Mariah on the other hand had an amazing career in the past years and at that point she had to deal with her major vocal issues! If someone doesn't know the story, it seems like Celine tried to prove something but as I said on my first comment I didn't want to believe that, because I've been always admiring her attitude, and therefore I made some research to figure things out! The truth is that many people were shading Mariah without her having said anything against them but in that case of Celine, when you see your idol performing with a talented young woman like yourself and you know you can't be on her shoes, then you'll probably envy of her and everyone that could stand beside Aretha. So yeah! Now I can't tell she was right because eventually she was proved to be the opposite!✌️☮️

About the Madonna thing, that was mostly done by the UK tabloids who printed stuff that Madonna allegedly said but she did not really.
Since then when Mariah had her breakdown in 2001, Madonna sent her cards and flowers and in 2008 Madonna said she liked her new album in an interview where they tried to get her to diss Mariah but she shot them down. They are not friends, in fact Mariah said she never had a conversation with Madonna but it ain't that deep as stans make it out.
The 4 month marriage reference @2:45 was about Kim K's 72 day marriage to Kris Humphries as well the Kardashian's being famous for all living in Calabasas the gated community where most celebs in LA live

i love mariah but the whole celine thing was BEYOND stupid and showed her insecurity since she was in her vocal decline that era. aretha literally ASKED someone to compete with her basically and celine did so and absolutely nailed it. mariah was not as good as she normally is in that performance so she was bitter, i hate to say it but it's true. celine did her job and aretha was happy with it

Mariah and Nicki's beef is fake; scripted for the show. Mariah said in the 2018 interview that their "feud," was scripted. Probably to bring more views to the show. She said she respects Nicki and she's waiting to listen to her newest album at the time!

Mariah was talking about at the end of the show Aretha kept singing and was doing a gospel song. Aretha was asking for someone to help her lift Jesus’ name and nobody was stepping up so Celine did. She wasn’t trying to upstage Aretha. Mariah plays that story up so much. It’s tired. 1998 Mariah was starting not to sound so hot so of course she was trying to back up with the background singers 😩

Mariah can come across as bitter but she’s been in the industry for a very long time and her ex husband owned half the industry for most of that time. You can tell she’s been thru hell and just seems blasé and bored by the cruelty.
Also I think the Madonna drama was very sad, I’m glad mariahs been trying to repair that and make amends. It was neither of their faults but a male reporter was twisting both of their words to put them against each other.
Mariah has never came across bitter , she’s speaking truth she don’t start with people. She’s defends herself. Madonna and Mariah has moved on have said nice things about each other .
Finally someone with sense! I always found is suspicious that there was never a single video evidence of Madonna dissing Mariah, nor a direct quote from a reliable magazine. All there was was a trashy UK tabloid paper putting something out that even Mariah herself hadn't heard of and then being asked about it.
In fact i have seen videos of people trying to get Madonna to diss Mariah and being asked about her and she always shut the interviewer down and never said a bad word about her.
