The date celebrates the revolt of the Portuguese military and the portuguese people, who on April 25, 1974 carried out a military coup with the aim of ending the 41-year-old dictatorship imposed by Salazar.
The symbol of April 25 is the carnation, because on that day a woman offered carnations to the soldiers as a sign of thanks. In celebration, the soldiers placed the received flowers in the barrels of their weapons, which represented the victory with virtually no violence.
