How to fix a Stove Burner that won't light, click, or ignite

  • All but one burner would light. This part was $43 dollars and fixed the problem. I got it off of amazon for my Frigidaire stove. Spark ignition switch. It took about 45 minutes to change out.
    One other thing to check if your stove burner will not light of click is the accumulated moisture near the igniter. If you recently cleaned your stove, and that's when it stopped working, that may be it.

    What PART did you buy????

  • @tombanes

    I did all this on one of my ranges and when it happened to another I just sprayed WD 40 into the switch box after pulling off the knob and just moved it on and off a bit to clean the contact. Good as new. I would have preferred to use a electric contact cleaner or tv tuner cleaner but did not have it at the time. This happens when people spray fantastic and water on the knobs to clean them and the solution carries dirt and grime back into the switches.

    • @tombanes
      @tombanes Před rokem

      @@giam9990 there are 4 or 5 white boxes in wire harness. . Each is right behind each knob. Just pull the knob off and you will see it partially. Just spray in and around in there. Wait for the WD-40 to penetrate and the excess to drip off. It should work unless there is physical damage to the switch.

    It gave me enough info to decide to pay a repair technician. It would be helpful to know the brand and talk us through the steps to take apart the stove and repair it.
    Agree that a tripod would have been beneficial.

      I think you can spray contact cleaner into the switches to clean them and only pull off the knobs.

    I had the same problem. Before taking everything apart, just take off the knob and push on the connector behind the knob with a screwdriver on both sides of the knob pin. This took care of my problem; I did not need a new part.

      I saved $50 +++ by popping open the faulty switch, cleaning it and giving the metal tab a slight bend to improve contact. Good as new. Those $50 harnesses must cost all of 4 dollars to manufacture. What a scam! It pays to have the curiosity to take things apart and see how they work.

      Thank-you!!! Saw this just before was going to order parts (because I have a tenant that I didn't want to inconvenience by taking it apart before having everything I might need ready). I just removed the knob from the offending burner and sure enough the white square behind it was wiggley -- i used two screwdrivers to apply equal pressure to the plate on either side of the 'knob pin' and it clearly 'clicked' right back into place---- WALAH!!!

    What if it clicks but doesn’t light

    • @First_Class_Amateur
      @First_Class_Amateur  Před 3 lety

      Take a look near each porcelain igniter. Even though you are engaging one specific burner, the clicking is sparking an opposite burner. You might see this by looking at each igniter while you hear the clicking sound. Try turning on the burner that is next to the burner that won’t light. While the fire is on that one, try igniting the other burner. This sometime helps me when my stove is acting up. Just don’t leave the burners on without anything blocking the heat from reaching your cabinets or microwave.
