      But likewise it was a wonderful era for great session drummers getting work all over the place -- not just Phil was on so many records but John "JR" Robinson, Jim Keltner, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Andy Newmark...

    First use of drum machine in Genesis is not on Abacab but on Duke, in the song Duchess. It even predates In The Air Tonight.
    I also always wonder what the drum sound is that is used on Genesis' It's Yourself, a B-side from the A Trick Of The Tail album. It doesn't sound like Phil playing at all, and does sound very mechanical.

  • @tresporros
    @tresporros Před 2 lety

    I am hardcore fan of 808 bongos....combined with 808 kick - you have 4 instruments which you can tune all together and really tr808 turns into playing harmonies..... just check Massive Attack '3' from Protection album, I am so mesmerized by those bongo/congo sounds so much, I mastered tuning bongos on 808 to the fundamental of the song, and my 808 'sings' :). BTW agree what Phil is saying, the machine can be groovy, it just depends on how you program it...even considering the rigid grid (although 808 sequencer was slowing down at the end of the sequence and on the very first note - back on time, this alone 'created' certain groove....I love 808!!
