    This is probably my favorite video. When I was a kid I got my ears pierced and had a lot of trouble with finding jewelry that didn't irritate my ears. For the longest time, I thought I was allergic to everything except precious metals. I know now that I probably wasn't allergic, but that the cheap jewelry was most likely irritating my sensitive ears. Educating people on the quality of the jewelry they buy is so important, and I wish more stores cared enough to sell good quality jewelry.

    For those asking about pvd coating safety in initial piercings. It is similar to a ceramic coating. The kind IS uses is similar to pvd coating used in the medical world. There are numerous studies and even standards for PVD coating. The main concern is that if altered (bent from its original shape) or if somehow scratched/cracked, problems can occur.

    These videos saved me a lot of money and pain I have to say. My first helix and tragus piercings were done in an unqualified shop with externally threaded jewelry made from god knows what. After watching your videos I've found an APP certified piercer and couldn't be happier with the work and there is a difference. Don't ask about price because it's not as important as keeping your body safe. Thanks JC!

    I know this mainly focuses on threaded black jewelry, but Kaos Softwear black silicone is also a black body jewelry option. I know silicone is iffy because it's supposed to be worn in well-healed piercings and some people have reactions to it/stretch improperly with it even though Kaos has a warning to never stretch with it. But, earskins are a great option and I personally wear one in my healed 4g stretched septum without complications. :)

  • @warrenhiller
    @warrenhiller Před 11 lety

    Niobium for the win!!! I remember back in the day certain low level jewelry suppliers pushed lead crystal glued in gems in rhodium plated jewelry. So I was a bit surprised to see some reputable companies going the rhodium route. Glad you keep it real and we both know our friends/jewelry suppliers accept and appreciate your honesty.
    Im curious since you cant thread niobium well. Perhaps NeoMetal could dive into doing niobium threadless designs? It would eliminate the threading issues.. right? ;)

    Fantastic video! Definitely will keep all of this stuff in mind if I'm ever looking for something black.
    One nitpicking note, though: it was mentioned that PVD stands for "physical vapor disposition".
    Hate to be nitpicky, but it stands for "physical vapor DEposition" (think the act or process version of "depositing"). Just a note for future improvement :)
    Thanks for such fantastic videos, and keep up the good work!

    So I told my my mom (a former piercer from 20+ yrs ago) that I was getting some anodized stainless steel from Urban Body Jewelry cause I had read a helpful article by them about gauging. I'm at a 14 wanting to go up to a 12. So I get really excited about gauging up and start searching for anodized titanium but I'm a poor broke college student so 40$ for just a single horshoe of internally threaded 12g 1/2" length was making me want to faint. And I was pointed to all the good place and I was like they seem quality but I can't afford quality x.x and so I purchased a cute little anodized steel externally threaded (I didn't like them because frikkin always falling off and the birds I sometimes visit pulled off so many balls that got lost forever) but then my mom responds with links to three of your videos. Holy crap I never knew. Why did I not know that surgical steel is a lie? Or that stainless can be that bad? Why did it not occur to me to check for groves that bacteria can get caught in? Like I was thinking "just buy a cheap pair and get the 80$ ones later when you can afford it and then go for the pretty 88$/horseshoe when you're rich and famous." But this video really opened my eyes and now I will be extra careful what metals I'm putting into my body and the quality of the craftsmanship. No more stepping stones, just go for the good s***.
    Edit: btw, I love your shirt. 2nd edit: *vest shirt combo xD

When I go on pangea's website I can't get a price for exactly what I want. We live in KC, MO area, so hopping up to your store isn't really possible. Any tips? If I go and get it done and bring the sealed package I get in the mail from a reputable jewelry maker, are they going to look at my cross eyed and charge me way more for wanting high quality jewelry. A new, piercing only shop opened downtown and since you said that's the best way to go, in another video, I sough one out. Thanks for anything you can provide! New but BIG FAN... stay kooky ;0)
