  • IMPORTANT HEALTH MESSAGE | Style Mom XO
Hey guys welcomes back to Style Mom XO in todays video it is super important for me to spread this message. The message of following what your gut says and making sure your voice is heard. Your health is super important and you don't have to just take one doctors option on it. I had a little health scare but because I stood up for myself and got another option it put me down the path of a biospy. Thank god it all turned out good in the end, but I wanted to share this important message in todays video. YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

Bless you for this message. Many Drs. do not like to be questioned - they are the authority!! The problem is that you live in your body and you can sense things they might not consider. Intuition is a wonderful thing and I am so very glad you listened to yours. With your history it was negligent to deny you a mammogram. I am so happy that you found a Dr. who listened. Blessings also to your amazing husband who dropped everything to be by your side and help out. You have helped all of us here and sent a powerful message to your children as well. You are an amazing mother. Take care and stay well. We all need someone like you in our lives.

Thank you for sharing. When I was 34 I had a lump under my arm. Every doctor I went to didn’t want to do a mammogram because I was too young and no family history of any type of cancer. 6 months later and many doctors later turns out I had Stage 3 Breast Cancer. When I finally got someone to listen and perform a mammogram and a sonogram came out negative. A woman that did my sonogram even told me to stop using deodorant when I asked if I had nothing why do I have a lump under my arm. We know our bodies and must be our own advocates. My prayers for your continued strength and healing 🙏🏻

Thank you for sharing your story! I had cancer at the age of 28, resulting in a complete hysterectomy . I had 3 doctors to give their options, and ultimately had a wonderful doctor to help me get through the few years of healing. When I found out about the cancer, my son was only 4 months old. I certainly know the feelings of “the Mom” heartache of it all! It is so scary! Since then, I have had a lumpectomy which was negative.
I am so proud of you for listening to your voice, which God gives to us women in times of need! Your video has been such an inspiration!

But now you have a fantastic Dr. I just recently went through the same thing , i had a yearly mammogram done got the call for more pictures. Went a had that done they said need to do a mammagram guided biopsy. So had that done came back as DCIS pre cancer. So had surgery then done 4 weeks of radiation. Being checked every 6 months with Mammogram. So thankful it was found early as well. In 2013 was diagnosed with Hodges Lymphoma went thur chemo and in 2015 cancer free. Praise God!! I’m so pleased for you that your issues were sorted & I hope you’ll stay healthy now.
This really resonated with me as my Mum had almost constant heavy periods & went to doctors over 10 years including hospital. She was constantly being put off saying she was too young for it to be anything serious. She had procedures done but nothing helped. Finally at 48 a new doctor sent her for tests at the hospital & she passed away from Ovarian Cancer at 49, just over 1 month after her diagnosis.
It’s painful sharing this but she was told you don’t get Ovarian cancer until at least 50, well what a load of rubbish. It might not be common but age isn’t a defence against these diseases & everyone needs to be aware of that. My mum could still be here if it wasn’t for the doctors who saw age in a black & white area, there’s always exceptions & they should listen. If it’s not normal for your body then it’s not normal. My mum fought to get help but it took 10 years & with Cancer 10 years is a life sentence because it can easily be too late.
Thank you for sharing your story & you could’ve saved someone’s life. I fund raise & put leaflets out for the Ovarian Cancer charity to hope someone will recognise their symptoms & with the information hopefully save their life. Take care of yourself. 🤗🤗🤗

I recently read where a women was advising women that if a health care professional refuses to run any tests or doesn’t respond to your concerns that you should request that they put it in writing in your chart. She did that and it resulted in her getting the tests run that she needed. I know that sometimes it’s an insurance issue but always double check your coverage as well.

Totally agreed about getting a second opinion and fighting for yourself. In 2010 my cycles went crazy (like yours). First OB/GYN gave me a prescription for birth control and they didn't work. I called them several times with concerns and was told to wait. I found a second Dr who ran tests, blood work and a mammogram. Afterward we discussed the option and decided the best route was a hysterectomy (at age 45). I am thankful for listening to my inner voice and a supportive husband/son to help.

Just found your channel today, I just wanted to say from someone coming from a long line of cancer survivors and some who did not... GOOD FOR YOU, for listening to that little voice!! I have been getting a Mamo every year since I was 25, now 45. Nearly every woman on my mothers side has had it and I was not taking any chances. I was very fortunate to find a primary Dr. who told me if I ever ran into a Dr. that refused a scrip because of my age he would personally write one...and he did a few times. I understand the issues all to well that you experienced with your monthly. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) So that was my life all my life. Not living for fear I wouldn't find a bathroom, or always carrying a change of clothes, just in case. Unfortunately because the BC in my family is estrogen induced I cannot take Birth control, but through diet I've been able to get it under control. Anyways thank you for making this video I am sure it has helped so many already.

I couldn’t agree more!!! I’m always telling friends and family that they are in charge of their health not the dr. I also am one to encourage mammograms as soon as you can to get that baseline- in case there are any changes. In August 2018 I had my yearly mammogram. I got a call to go in to have more films taken., I was told I needed to speak with the Radiologist. He said that there was something very small but was indeed suspicious, he recommended an ultrasound then a biopsy if needed. I had the ultrasound and it was recommended I have a biopsy that day. Honestly I was a little freaked out but I knew I had fibroids which I also had a needle biopsy years earlier and all was fine. On September 10, 2018 as I was walking down the high school hall (my youngest daughter that has Down syndrome and Autism had forgotten her favorite doll at school and there was no way the evening would go well if that doll didn’t get home! Lol!!!) Also important to know that I had my dr had left the practice and I had not yet had my appointment with my new doctor. So as I was walking down the chaotic high school hallway my new dr tells me my biopsy came back positive for cancer. After a lumpectomy, I didn’t have to have chemotherapy and only had to have 16 radiation treatments (which was plenty and awful). I am cancer free and will be graduating to seeing my oncologist every 6 months- woot woot!!! I’m sharing to reinforce your message to be proactive-get your mammogram as often as you are directed to and to push for it if there is a family history. Also be your own advocate. You can ask 10 people if they recommend this dr or that one -half will say the dr is great and the other half will say don’t go to that dr. 🙄- great help right?!! So you have consultation and make your own decision, you’ll know if that dr is right fit. ***some doctors have awful people skills but are great at their specialty., still you’ll know. Speak up for yourself because YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH!!! 💗💗💗🤗

Kim, thank God your good!! I had similar situation as you this past June!! Went in for my annual (3D) and got called back for additional views, then I had to get US! Doctor came in to talk to me I had 2 masses on my left breast..I could either watch for 3 months, fine needle biopsy, or remove by surgery. Of course I wanted them out..One was fine the other was irregular reason for concern. They ended up being benign (fibroadenomas). They did however test my tissue and I have ALH (at risk for breast cancer) and was offered Tamoxifen for 5 years. I go back this month for another mammogram, then every 6 months..then eventually a yearly!! This was an emotional roller coaster for us as well, (my husband is a saint too) no immediate family member with breast cancer (I think my aunt in her 70’s may have). I’m in tears 😢. I went through something similar a couple a years ago. I was then 37. So I had very horrible painful heavy periods that would literally make me cry. My then OBGYN suggested I get my uterus burned or have a hysterectomy. I told him I wasn’t sure I didn’t want any more kids. My kids were 20, 18, 15 years at that point. He said it wouldn’t make a difference because I was no longer “ovulating”. So I felt useless. Some type of way I can’t really explain. So I told him I would think about it. In a couple of months I missed a period. Didn’t think nothing of it since I wasn’t “ovulating” missed a second period and suddenly I’m feeling nauseous. Took a pregnancy test and surprise. I was pregnant with now my fourth baby. He’s now 13 months and amazing. Periods are better naturally. Main point. Don’t just accept any procedure because it was suggested. I wouldn’t have my baby if I would have. 😊

That is amazing! Such a blessing for sure.
We are 1000% done having kids. Lol. I had a permanent procedure done to have no more babies when my daughter was 1. We just felt complete and happy. So I don’t mind having a hysterectomy it’s just i wanted to make sure there was other options.

I’ve been going through similar things. I have endometriosis birth control helps some but still have pain. I have lumps in both my breast and have to go back every 6 months to make sure it doesn’t change to cancer. I’m a grandmother now and I have been trying to keep up with my health because I want to see them grow up. Glad you got a second opinion. My doctor knows cancer is really bad in my family and keeps me on schedule for the screenings. I even have to get colonoscopy every three years. 😩

I am so proud of you not only for standing up for yourself, but also for sharing your story. I know it was hard to not get too emotional during filming. Thank you so much! It is true, trust your gut. My son had a very bad virus a few years back and had been checked by our doctor but was not getting better. His heart rate was 145 bpm, temperature consistently over 103, he was very, very sick. Now mind you, he had the same symptoms the day before at the doctor. My gut said take him to the ER, so I did. He was 19 years old at the time. My son was admitted for pneumonia and possible sepsis. My family doctor had not caught the symptoms less than 24 hours earlier. That trip to the ER most likely saved my sons life.
Trust your gut feeling!! Voice your concerns and advocate for yourself and your family.

It is also very important to have those tests done so in the future you can compare the changes. I am with you too about finding a right for you doctor. I use to just settle. Until that one day my son needed me to be his voice. They ignored us for a while and I had to find him a doctor who would listen or at least inform us on what to do. His life depended on it.

I am so proud of you for speaking out to hopefully help someone else. I regret not getting a second opinion earlier for my Dad. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2017 and given 4-6 months. We were told it was inoperable when there was actually an amazing doctor a few hours away that specializes in brain surgeries for GBM. I didn’t find the doctor until 2 months in. He was able to remove 95% of my Dads brain tumor. It wasn’t earlier enough though because it had done so much damage. He lost his speech, use of his left side completely and almost completely on his right. He went from a very active man to bedridden very quickly! We buried my Dad 4 months to the day of his diagnosis. I trust everything happens for a reason and that it’s all in God’s hands but I can’t help but think what if. What if we got him into the doctor and got his surgery sooner.
Anyway, I’m sorry!!! You are a strong woman to share your story and to have already survived it once. God bless you!!!

Kim you are a very strong person to stand up for yourself. Being a retired mri tech you may want to check now if you are able to have the mri because of your coils. If you are able to have the mri try for a 3 T mri machine no lower than a 1.5 T. I worked on a 3 T and our mammo images were so sharp. I had the feeling something was wrong with me 10 yrs ago. I went to my dr and asked for a colonoscopy was diagnosed with colon cancer had surgery and chemo am 10 yrs out doing fine.

Hi Kimberly, thank you so much for your video. I commend you for it. It’s sad to know that our lives are in the hands of these kind of doctors. I’m with you, I truly believe in being your own advocate. At least that’s what I teach my husband & children. Unfortunately, I had a dr who selectively chose which of my issues to address (the simple & quick ones) & then wanted to send me on my way. I had to push her to do more bcuz all of my concerns were not taken care of & knew it could be resolved with some simple tests. Sure enough I had an infection. I got called a few days later prescribing me antibiotics. If I didn’t say any more to the dr, who knows what would have happened. I’m happy your ok & I just want to say Thank you for putting yourself out there & sending a great message to all. We need more people in the world like you! ❤️

I went to a doctor who immediately said mastectomy before we even had the biopsy done. That turned me off and i went to a second doctor who gave me options and listened. It’s so important to listen to your gut. It ended up not being cancer but it had to be removed. Like you I also have a wonderful husband. I’m a little older than you and also have kids and even though they are older it’s scary. all the thoughts that go through your mind. I also had 1/2 of my thyroid removed 20 years ago. My doctor wanted to do an ablation on me as well. I decided last minute not to do it after research. Like you said it burns the lining of your uterus as well as keeping you in the future from getting a biopsy if needed. If there were any issues on down the road I was told next step would be hysterectomy due to the fact that the procedure would mask (I believe that was the term) any cancer cells if they were present. I no longer go to that doctor. He was not happy when I canceled the procedure. Good for you for being your own advocate !!

I'm glad you shared this very important information. I've had family members who've had many of the same scenarios. One family member was having such heavy, prolonged periods that she couldn't even sit through a whole Christmas performance her daughter was in without getting up twice. She was treated with birth control and I believe a steroid. One family member had to have her uterus scraped and cauterized for endometriosis, and I had a mammogram that was questionable and indeed it was scary. After waiting a few days I was sent to the hospital, undressed and put on a gown, then told to wait in the hall because someone else was first....what the heck. That one was questionable also so they did an ultrasound. That one was fine, but all that in between stuff was scary. Plus the mammogram radiologist wasn't the nicest person. The ultrasound person was nice and understanding. So your message was much appreciated. So happy it wasn't cancerous!!!!

Kimberly, no wonder I love you and your channel....I've known you are a very smart person who checks things out, makes good decisions........this is a very important and great video to put out there....I have walked away from a couple doctors that I knew they just weren't correct......I had a pain in my foot once and one dr. said no it is in my leg, i said no the pain is near my toes, in the metatarsal area, he wanted to set me up for electrodes all down my leg, I said no , never went back.......the pain completely went away on it's own, it was from wearing a shoe I wasn't use to wearing, I went to another dr. and he couldn't find anything wrong and it just went away.......and once on my finger, I bumped it and ended up with a cyst that made a lump, well I wanted it out and one dr. explained how she would zig zag cut it out all down the finger and around the other side and and then there would be 6 weeks of physical therapy......and she was not polite, and I found another dr knowing that can't be right, I didn't tell the next dr how she was going to take it out, then you get a clean opinon and he said, he'd cut one little small straight line and a couple stithces will be removed and no physical therepy at all, then i told him how the other dr what she would do and he just was amazed. And on and on in life the crazy things one can encounter, gotta be super vigilant and do your own research, get another opinion when you know something is not right........Well Kimberly I just admire you more and more!! I am so proud of you!

40 is just a number someone, somewhere ( probably insurance companies!!) chose. There are so many women who have a family history or not, that have gotten breast cancer way before that age. I don’t think it is ok for them to make a woman who is worried wait and take chances with our lives.

I can't click off without telling you what a beautiful and inspiring woman you are! You are so brave to tell your story, because I know something like this can be especially hard. Thank you for sharing your truth.🙏🏻

This is my first time ever commenting on a CZcams video but I just absolutely found the need to thank you taking the time out and for sharing this. Thank god a million times you are okay and you stood up for yourself. Something similar happened to my mom due to an incompetent doctor. God bless you, your husband and your family with the best of health and happiness always!! 🥰🙏🏻 keep inspiring! 🧡

Got 1st mammo at 35 (24 years ago) because of family history. When I was 40, my 41 year old sister got breast cancer and a double mastectomy. I was "comfortable" to be checked at 35. So glad my DR listened to my concern. 2nd opinions are sometimes needed

So happy you are being proactive about getting them done. And so happy you had a doctor that listened. Also happy your sister is okay 💖💖

What a blessing! I’m so happy for you! Thank you for sticking to your gut. Many women will simply just take the doctors advise, but I’m thankful that you did not settle for what the first doctor said. I totally understand you and thank you. I, too, faced a similar situation and this gives me encouragement. Thank you. I will be praying for you and your family. 💞🙏🏼💞🙏🏼
