I know this is a far stretch but is there any way one can have the honour of playing in a campaign run by you guys?
@@SolotaireKid we do offer up random drawings through patreon and the newsletter for our monthly fan game.
Nerdarchist Dave
ghost-wise halfling because you get a wis bonus and can speak telepathically which is nasty while in wild form
Have you guys ever thought of a changeling druid
Warforged Druid and be a Beast Wars Transformer
Dangit, you beat me to it :)
I played one in a one shot. Total blast.
Nerdarchist Dave
Brilliant!
You can even try to recreate Dinobots heroic death. Homebrew overriding stasis lock (0 HP) for the trade off of auto failing a death save.
I played with a guy who did that. He played the transforming sound on his phone whenever he changed shape. It was fantastic. The DM hated it with the fury of a thousand suns.
Lizardfolk Moon Druid that turns into Dinosaurs as their wildshapes. Soooo many good choices.
Not to mention thematic.
Nerdarchist Dave
I actually am playing a Moon Druid who turns into dinosaurs as his wildshape in an Adventurer's League game. He's a Firbolg though. We're playing through Tomb of Annihilation so we're in Chult. He went there so he could see some dinosaurs. He's basically a tourist.
My last druid in Pathfinder was exactly this. Lizardfolk that turned into a deinonychus or mega raptor pending size constraints, had a deinonychus for an animal companion, and a mega raptor for a mount.
Danny Hampton lizardfolk brethren unite!!!
I am playing a Lizardfolk Moon Druid with the Wizard Magic Initiate feat in an upcoming Tomb of Annihilation campaign. The DM is letting me have a flying snake familiar. I am super excited! 🐍
Tortles do get a bonus to wisdom. I think you meant Tabaxi.
Very possible I just misspoke. We shoot videos 1-2 weeks ahead of when they post. Sometimes they hang around even longer in the cue before going live. Half the time I have no idea what I said by the time a video goes live. I've got a terrible memory for the most part. It's amazing I can remember as much as I do about D&D.
Nerdarchist Dave
@@Nerdarchy It is actually AL legal to let the 17 AC travel with you into animal form.
You guys have such great productive value and the dialogue is always helpful, insightful, and well spoken. I’m gonna definitely watch through your other videos
I'm using a kobold druid bard right now. He's a riot with my group. Made the dm cry laughing last night.
Excellent! Wildshape combined with pack tactics= awesome.
It also makes me wonder about sunlight sensitivity for kobolds and drow when they are wildshaped. They'd probably lose their superior darkvision, but that wouldn't be a bad trade off at times.
Nerdarchist Dave
My dm gave my char a necklace that resisted the sunlight. One of a kind item that if lost is gone for good...
Clicked the bell only because of that "attune" command... Ted has high charisma.
Ted is hard to resist.
Nerdarchist Dave
I’m playing an old Kenku Druid that was abandon as an egg who was taken care of by a group of nomadic druids that wandered the world with their leader being a shifter. They all taught him the ways but after a falling out, he ran away to a mountain near him, only to see his mentors being burned to death by presumably bandits and now to respect his mentors, he looks for the student that is worthy of learning the Druidic ways.
I'm that tiefling druid you mentioned.
Hey always one in the bunch.
;p
Nerdarchist Dave
Curious. I'd love to hear your backstory and alignment and motivation. Bet its interesting.
Ayyy me too
@@travisterry2200 well hydie was a tiefling druid bard. Her mother died during childbirth, and her dad raised her until she was 5, when he died in a bar brawl. She then was raised by her grandfather Randolph, and by the time she was 25 she was a travelling con artist with him. The druid aspect was kind of a subset of her personality, she was very much a "momma bear" character, in particular with orphans. The mechanics of it were "I don't like clerics but I wanna be a healer"
That's freaking awesome.
Played a Tiefling Circle of Dreams Druid for a short campaign. I've played him as a spiritbinder, as if a droplet of extraplanar blood opened his perception to a usually unseen world. That added an eery flavor for whole Nature deal
I wish you'd made a mention of the Ghostwise Halfling's Silent Speech as a fantastic druid racial. Being able to communicate in animal form is both a good and unique benefit, especially when your Wildshape gets up to very long durations and you don't want to drop your form to talk to your buddies.
Never mind, you did mention it. Just came up super late.
@@Laukaus11 yea kalashtar and the ghostwise halfling get a work around to not being able to speak.
Nerdarchist Dave
I am new to DnD, so I tried to pick a race that matched my class. I am playing a Firbolg Druid. So image my pleasure to hear I chose well! I also just found your videos and subscribed. Your videos have helped me learn and relax a bit about the game. I am now looking forward to the play. Thanks
Super chill Tortle druid that has plants grow on his shell would be neat ^^
So first i have to say that i have been enjoying your videos a lot because I am going to join a D&D campaign and I have not played since i was a young kid and you guys have given me some amazing tips and information. This was a fun video since I decided to make a Firbolg Druid and choose Circle of the Moon and that is very different than the type of characters I tend to gravitate towards so I hope to have some fun with both that race and class. Again keep up the great videos because they are tremendously helpful for people like myself and I am sure even for old vets of the game as well.
Though stat wise probably not the best choice in a traditional setting, a half-orc worked well for me. When we played "Out of the Abyss" we created a whole party of half-orcs. As a Circle of the Moon my half-orc crit bonus and con bonus worked well. Thematically having a whole party of half-orcs enabled us to blend in everywhere we went.
Love y'alls content. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
You guys are the coolest two dudes I have never not met! Keep up the good work!
My druid was a wood elf Circle of the Land (Forest) druid, and I enjoyed playing her until the campaign fell apart due to scheduling issues.
Ironically my favorite support caster so quite curious and fortuitous so thank you Nerdarchy
Personally I think a Tortle works best for a Druid. And they're fun as hell to play. Strength and Wisdom stat bumps and the thematic "animalistic" connection. Wild shape a few times for all kinds of HP but you still have a natural AC of 17 (without a shield) in between shapes. Even if you focus on Spell Casting, you have killer AC! Hold breath for an hour... natural claw weapons... shell defense... survival skill... and the picture from The Tortle Package even has a little red bird chillin' up on the Tortle's back.
Holy shit man I've always wanted to play a tortke thanks for the idea
And in multivariate of monsters there's a dragon turtle tortle subrace that gives intimidation and a breath weapon and a cold resistance
Great video as always! Question though when can we expect to see our favorite Druid, Vankas the sky whale Olympian again? Absolutely love how you are playing him!
Rogue Adventurer: Just what we need, a Dru-ish Princess!
Shifter Adventurer: That's funny, she doesn't look Dru-ish.
A little late, but, I like that movie.
Ape 1: Spaceballs?
Ape 2: There goes the planet.
Our group is starting a new campaign soon, and I rolled up a spear and shield using Tortle and going with the Circle of the Spore archetype from the Unearthed Arcana. The high AC from shield and natural armor plus the CoS wild shape alternative just sounds like it would be crazy fun to play around with
Really terrific conversation here! Historically I never much liked druids. Wildshape didn't appeal to me but with the Circles in 5E I've had a great time playing a forest gnome Circle of Dreams druid and especially svirfneblin Circle of Spores druid. The latter is I've of my favorite characters ever, it's so much fun. Can't wait for GGtR in a few weeks - the changes from UA look awesome
Love these vids! I have lots of questions whenever you can.
That dragon shirt spoke to my inner nerd
Ah yes , your one of us , good
I really wish they would release something official for the druid that works like circle of the moon but instead of beasts it lets you change into monstrosities. You know what my favorite race for a druid is?...Warforged envoy. Transform and roll out!
Yea the idea of staying looking like a construct has a lot of appeal to me.
Nerdarchist Dave
@@Nerdarchy I know right!? :D
Swarms.
I wish the same but for plants or some plant based class
The best druids are the ones that know fire spells and accidently keep setting the forest on fire.
Gets me erverytime xD
I'm playing a Circle of the Shepard Firbolg and it's so much fun. Really fun race to rp
My last druid I played was a wood elf bloodcursed moon druid that later turned into a sky captain with a wyvern air force on his very own Sky ship. 💪
I say it every video but this time I mean it; dwarves make for my favorite druid. Good stats and thematically they work well while being fairly unique.
I loved the concept of a hafling druid. I had one (a stout) that MC'ed into barbarian. Minor problems was not having 2 bonus actions in a round (barbarian rage and wildshape as a moon druid are both bonus actions). But he was a tough fighter. I feel that they lack some feats that could elevate the druids a little bit, like getting more wildshapes per short/long rest. Oh - and I basically had no need for any magical item we found. :)
Thematically, changeling circle of the moon druids are probably my favorite race/class combination. You get access to both bonus action wild shape and shapechanger (RAI, you can shapechange while in wild form), and with Rising From the Last War you can put your 1 point in Wis.
Liked your list, but even as you mentioned the Warforged, you missed the Shifter. Not too sure I agree with the Forest Gnome as the only thing they have going for them is the ability to speak with SMALL animals (OK, maybe the saves VS spells too). I would have gone for the Changeling, who chooses Int instead of Dex just to boost those immutable ability scores, also boosting those scores, allows higher stats in the "dump" stats for a rounder Char, also there's the ultimate infiltrator thing going with the Change Appearance as well as the Wild Shape...( smash it with some Bard (!!) Ermahgerd)
Images about the races when you speak should be amazing.
Ghostwise halfling is always my favorite because of the telepathy, plus the other halfling traits, no fumbles, no half move when creatures are larger, ext.
Right after watching I created an insane firbolg druid with a Homebrew circle named circle of the scale that gives you draconic wild shape
In one if my games I used a Circle of the Shepherd Tortle NPC who had spirit animal themed spells. Hold person manifested in the form of a spirit boa constrictor, healing word spirit doves flew into the target, & guidance was granted by a wise owl spirit. I tried to capture DC's Vixen and GW2's Ranger with the imagery.
It is also a good reason to go for a race that just has some nice features for wild shape.
Acid spitting wolves as Dragonborn Druid for example.
Firbolg is a good one. Though bound to Ebberon, the wildhunt shifter is a great choice that you didn't mention.
I've always been underwhelmed by the wildhunt shifter stats. Unfortunately because I really enjoyed the wildhunt shifter Burch character from the Lost Mark trilogy.
Nerdarchist Dave
firbolgs seem like a druid like race.
Same. I think that Firbolg was perfectly made for a Druid to multiclass Barbarian first level dip. It fits the race and both classes perfectly for a solid combo.
Couldn't agree more.
Nerdarchist Dave
It is because they can yknow can talk to plants and animals without spells
Hi, Nerdarchists!
Long time D&D enthusiast, player and DM. Though I haven't stepped into 5e much yet, I've really enjoyed watching your CZcams analyses and suggestions. In fact, just finished watching you druid races review. Great stuff. I may be looking for a new group to join in the new year, or even to start my own. I like some of the online options I've seen, but I've always preferred abig table of nerds to interact with. Also, I dislike the slow buildup of word of mouth, sometimes. Have you guys done any videos covering ways to LFG that are good at finding or getting an excellent local bunch together? If not, would you consider it? Thanks in advance for cluing me in.
Personally have a firbolg circle of the moon, lizardfolk circle of the land, and wood elf circle of dreams and in looking forward to playing all of them
Any of them would be fun to play.
Nerdarchist Dave
@@Nerdarchy that's why I'm so excited to play them
When a Druid meets a Jedi :D
I picture the kalashtar to be like Eberron's Jedi.
Nerdarchist Dave
So I was totally going to make a firbolg, but then I got Volo's guide and read about the Tabaxi. I mean, claws as unarm weapon and dash in combat. Fun! Then I shape shifted my cat person in to a black bear and defeated a monster I could not look at that was turning to stone my crew, I am sold. I am new to D&D, only been playing a few months and my sons 10 and almost 12 yrs old are loven it. Thank's for this video, still learning. Can not find much so far on which circle to choose for Tabaxi, so trying I think Moon for now. As I could not figure out what would represent jungle or maybe swamps of the Tabaxi native lands...???
Playing my first Druid ever and I chose Firbolg sight unseen. Then I found your video. I feel vindicated for no apparent reason. Thank you.
how you pronounced aarakocra and yuan-ti just killed me. but overall good video guys! i can't wait for all the other class videos for best race
arra-coke-ra. is how I say it . You-an-tee, for me.
@@relrosner How i see WOTC and how i say it is Air-ah-cock-rah and Yawn-Tea
Thank you for this info
I am the one who is playing a tiefling druid. I made a hidden city in the woods where the outcast races live.
Firbolg Druid of the Spore called Morel Boletus. Carries a Forest Guardian Spirit with him (A black mushroom that grows on his back that his abilities are caused by it.) Also has find familiar (Due to magic initiate) An Hyper active raccoon called Mush. His goal is to find a cure for his homeland (Hidden in the Faerun vastmarsh) as his homeland has been affected by Wizards testings and waste.
Tbh I’m partial to Warforged for the Moon Druid because you can be a Transformer
May not be optimal stat wise but a Changeling Druid would be an interesting theme. Turning into other people AND animals.
Before watching video: Never took an interest in creating a Druid
After watching video: Creating a Druid as we speak... will add to the pile of characters I want to play someday.
Great video. I dig it!
Any thoughts to revisiting these types of videos as new content is produced? I think GM Guide to Ravnica introduced a serious contender with Vedalken. In a vein similar to the Forest Gnome I believe they'd make a fantastic Circle of the Moon druid. Especially if they RP it as a nature wizard instead of as a divine class.
Here are some fun picks for moon druid. 1.Ghostwise Halfling be able to speak to party members in wild shape 2.Protector Assimar transform then wild shape and fly as a bear or so for a minute plus radiant damage when attack
Lvl 3 green dragonborn moon druid, who also doesnt speak and looks more like a smiling geko than a dragon.
I'm hoping to get some medium armor ideas since Druids do not wear metal armor, or maybe an explanation as to them choosingto wear it; right now the campaign is just getting started, and was thinking of like giant insect carapace or something like that.
Insect carapace the way to go. Used umberhulk plate armour on my druid/nature cleric
I'm playing an Aarakocra Druid, Circle of Stars. He is a navigator and an astronomer who uses his knowledge of the night sky to draw on the power of starlight.
I played a human Druid, circle of the land - grassland. She used her collection of teeth for her Druidic focus.
i'm a circle of the moon wildhunt shifter, which gives you a +2 to WIS. my drolly hyena shifter is named speckles who has recently gained a kobold son that is now a lvl 2 circle of the moon druid too.
Making my first druid ever for our next campaign, thinking of being a Ghostwise Halfling Moon Circle Druid because talking while in wild-shape is awesome and being this tiny, gruff and slightly feral dude that can turn into this giant Crocodile at will and flip the script sounds hilarious to me.
Originally i was going to pick a Kalashtar but after talking to my DM and being told they aren't common in our setting i immediatly switched races, he is doing alot of work making the entire campaign for us and i want him to know i respect his decisions and appreciate all the work he puts in the setting so gonna adapt to it!
ok so what about a druid summoner aka circle of the shepherd, master summoner what would you suggest for that type of build?
awesome choices.. Never been a firbolg, but think there are the "Natural" choice for druid ;)
They just scream hippy commune which in turn screams druid.
Nerdarchist Dave
That intro was hilarious. XD
I'm determined to make a Goblin character for every class. Any tips on how to play a Goblin Druid? Is there a particular subclass that would suit them?
Could you make a heavy armor druid? Where they make full plate using Shape Wood, Iron Wood, and Armor Crafting? I would assume they are a Dwarf as they are craters and have proficiency in heavy armor. I'm still new to the game.
Changeling Circle of the Moon druid :)
Darrell Lalonde Named Quicksilver!
I often choose unique, not optimal class/race combinations purely out of roleplay reasons. My characters don´t do the most damage but it always makes fun playing them.
Right now I am working on a old female goblin druid (circle of spores)
Personally, my issue with D&D Beyond is that, if you want to check out the races and such, you need to buy the book on their site - mildly annoying if you've already got a physical copy but don't feel like digging through the whole stack just to figure out a minor feature. Ah well - I like paper anyways.
Kobolds have pact tactics. Advantage on everything!
I've gone half-elf- +2 to intelligence and +1 to two stats of my choice. I'm rethinking my race now.. but I think I can get away as a spell-based druid rather than wild shape style.. :S
Hey guys! Wait so I have a question? Was shifter introduced in eberon? If so that was one of my favorite races from before fifth edition. They're animalistic and kinda get a mini wild shape thing.
Also awesome Ted is totally a Jedi and Dave is the hippy druid. I really life how you guys are doing these little skits in your videos. For Ted krawl would be an awesome warlock druid lol.
Love the little role play before the start had me literally rotflmao!!!
Keep up the good work.
And Besafe!!!
Hm... Been wanting to make a Firbolg Druid, but... I never do. Huh. Or Firbolg Ranger... I've made a Firbolg Fighter for 2e AD&D before, though. Silly weapon restrictions. Oh, I can't use more than clubs and specific weapons for giants at the back of the book? Okay, clubs are my throwing/ranged option then.
Didn't mention at 18th level a elf druid can live for like 8000 years like yea it's lvl 18 but if your talking about a long term character it's by far the best option role play wise and I'm sure you can figure some sorta mechanical advantage with that age
Lythari wood elves make great primal druids with the ability to turn into wolves automatically and an advantage on charisma checks against all beasts
I went water genasi for my druid.
Putting together a circle of land (underdark) druid on a drow elf. So far i have her raised on the surface by druids and has the connection to her homeland.
Reconsidering my circle of the moon lizardfolk druid. Maybe I should of gone more midrange caster/combatant.
They should ask the Druid what race xe feels like being
Sweet intro!
Did anyone mention that the Ghostwise Halfling can use their telepathy to communicate, even while wild-shaping? Pretty useful!
Kalashtar as well, and they have the ability to enable the other person to respond telepathically
The first character I ever played is/was a Tortle Druid
Would a wildhunt shifter circle of moon work?
Currently playing a forest gnome druid.
Novice player here, I'm a half elf Druid. Can I focus on spellcasting but have SOME shape shifting capability, just maybe not a good as if I committed to Circle of Shepherd? Example, can Circle of Moon do "some" Shape Shifting? If my "Main Trick" is ONLY turning into beasts during combat, sounds like a drag, but I'm also very intrigued with having at least some shape shifting in my back pocket. If I'm primarily a "Shape Shifter", can I provide any healing and support to my party of adventurers beyond doling out a few Goodberries before combat??
wichever druid you choose will have good spellcasting so if ya wanna good wildshape go moon.
I wanna play a Goblin druid-rouge like bastard attitude, something like a fallen druid who still can use Druidic spells, so it can always trap enemies with thorn whips and entangleds and with some Fog clouds heavely darkened so i can move within with the racial dark vision and stab them with my daggers or cimitars or getting near so i can use Poison spray safely, or throw at them bottles of oils and fir'em up with my Produce flame xD
Tortle spore druid is my favorite combo
Ted's pun means this video deserves a like, too bad i can't give it a second like!
How would you do a urban Druid?
As a a firbolg moon druid, I approve.
Ghostwise Halfling is good choice for a Moon Druid because you can communicate through telepathy while wildshaped. 👍🏻
You're only about the 50th person to mention that... 😏
No half or in the primal? Bears and boars shape shifting half orcs
Can a Kenku druid gain flight through shapeshifting?
Yes.
Nerdarchist Dave
If you can mention centuars and warforged, why not mention shifters? Wild hunt shifter gets a +2 Wis bonus as well as their shifter bonus to wisdom based saves and rolls.
Over sight mostly. At this point there is a lot of races to sift through.
Nerdarchist Dave
@@Nerdarchy that's fair. I know for my self, I have a Google doc that list all the races and sub races with their stat boost. Currently 36 options including ebberon and U.A. (ravnica)
Centaur is good because you can use wildshapes to get into difficult to reach places that horse-men can’t go.
where are the wildhunt shifters?
Tortle has +1 to Wisdom.
As it is, some of these videos could use revisions.
My guesses are farbolg, wood elf and lizardfolk
Hill Dwarf is really underrated.
I've just started playing one. DM restricted class to PHB and I had just finished a campaign playing a forest gnome arcane trickster rogue. I wanted to play a different class. Only level 2 at the moment but went Circle of the Moon and loving the CR1 beasts. Druids seems like a more complex class, but I'm down for the challenge, even if I am just getting back into D & D. thanks for the video guys :)
Randomly selected this combo my first time playing... which is tonight :)
I know this is before the star circle came out but
I made my dm laugh on the first day after throwing a crited 2nd level guiding bolt at the boss enemy for the day
I think we ended up with 44 damage doubled to 88 cause it was week to radiant.........
I wildshape out of combat for rp purposes but in combat I use spells.
