Request an opioid pain medication before the examination. Women shouldn't have to suffer when men are given pain medication for their procedures. Just make sure your doctor provides it before scheduling the appointment!
It's not usually sore. I've had about 10 over the years and it's fine. I'm only looking at the video as I'm menopausal now so it might be uncomfortable next time, but previously I never found it to be a big deal - please give it a go.
They also have the self test where it is just a cotton swab now which was just FDA approved and is just as accurate at detecting hpv which is responsible for most cervical cancers so now women have more options thankfully
So basically the advice is "get on with it"

I have been offered gas and air for my smears due to past trauma. This helps its at the hospital but less uncomfortable
Is that England? Do they do that on the NHS?
This advice is so terrible
I got my letter back round about the end of April 2023 and I didn’t book in for it I’ve never had a smear don’t think I will if it’s sore

It's different for everybody. Some people find it ok, others find it excruciating
