  • Today I compare 2 headlights for the 2001/2002 (02-03 for US) Subaru Impreza. [The Bugeye-Generation]
One set of headlights are the original chrome-reflector-headlights, that originally came on the N/A and WRX-models.
The other set, is a set of original black-projector-headlights (not the HID-version), used on the STI-models. These are usually referred to a the JDM-Headlights, as the US didn’t get the STI for the bugeye and therefore also not these headlights.
The vehicle in the video is a euro-spec WRX, which had its headlights replaced with the STI-version.
Please note, that before this video I did a wiring mistake, which results in the high-beams not working as intended. I‘ve made a video showing how it looks when its fixed and how to wire it up yourself. You can find it here: • WRX to STI-Headlights ...
I hope this give you a better understanding on how they look, and help you make a decision on whether to get a set or not.
    Enjoy the video

There’s now a video showing what the fixed high beams look like. I’m also showing how to wire them up for all you DIY-guys out there.

Greetings from Scotland! Did you get rid of the Orciari headlights? They looked great! I've gone with aftermarket ones (chinese most probably), you know the ones with projector lenses and "angel eyes" that you can find on ebay for like 200 Euros/Pounds. I've found them to be a good compromise between actually being able to see the road at night thanks to the projector lenses (and be somewhat good looking and modern), and still being affordable compared to the JDM STI ones you showed in this video.

Yeah, I had to lay the Orciari’s aside for the time being. I liked them as well, but had no choice.
I got a new (not broken) bumper and had it painted, but for some stupid reason the Orciari’s just wouldn’t wanna fit with it. And because I didn’t want them to break, I decided it would be the easier option to switch them out.
So I got myself some STI-Headlights.
Sadly, here in Germany, EBay-Headlights just aren‘t an option, as the police is very strict with modifications.
      Nice regards,
      Niels

Hello! Your video says that the projector is normally off during the high-beam operation. Were you able to fix this?

Yes, during wiring I accidentally switched two wires, that’s why the high beams weren’t working correctly.
I‘ll make an other video soon showing the wiring to fix it.

What front lip is that? do you have a link to where to purchase? Thank you.

The lip is an original Subaru-part. It was available as a factory option back in the day. The part-number is "E2410FE000TG". You could ask Subaru if they still sell them, although I doubt that they do. Your best chance is probably to look on the used market (Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Ebay,...), thats where I got mine.

The American version lights are better IMHO.
